May 16, 20178 yr Tier 1: Beyonce (no question top of tier 1), Taylor, Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Tier 2: Ariana, Miley, Selena One flop single or era doesn't instantly take you down a tier, just like one solid era doesn't take you up, there's a lot more to take into consideration than sales. I think Miley is probably closest to tier 1 out of the ones I put n tier 2, due to her celebrity more than anything else but I think this will be a huge era commercially and will probably be like a mini Bieber sort of thing where people go from generally hating to loving her.
May 16, 20178 yr One flop single or era doesn't instantly take you down a tier, just like one solid era doesn't take you up, there's a lot more to take into consideration than sales. I definitely agree with this.
May 16, 20178 yr Tier 1: Beyonce (no question top of tier 1), Taylor, Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Tier 2: Ariana, Miley, Selena This is spot on. Beyoncé is a weird one because people struggle looking beyond chart positions, but there is no denying her cultural impact over the past few years. Katy and Gaga are massive brands, even if they don't sell like they did when sales were everything. Beyonce, Taylor and Rihanna are the top three - although you could argue that Beyonce is off in her own lane with Adele. Madonna and Britney have retired from this list now - they're with legacy acts unfortunately. Miley is a weird one to judge because she takes long breaks, but she's definitely around Ariana and Selena. They're all big in their own ways. Edited May 16, 20178 yr by blacksquare
May 16, 20178 yr As much as I love Miley, I can't lie. She's definitely not top tier YET, but I have a feeling tihs album campaign will really determine it for the majority. I have a feeling if she continues to do well, this will really put her up there with today's top tier pop girls.
May 16, 20178 yr Madonna is sort of tierless for me, because nobody will ever really touch her legacy and it's always there, she's constantly the one for the newer big pop girls to be compared to.
May 16, 20178 yr Miley actually has 7 top 3 albums to her name! And Britney has 9 top 3 albums, including her most recent album (not including the greatest hits albums)... but you're not adding her? I shall do my tier later.
May 16, 20178 yr Legacy: I.e. It doesn't matter whether they get chart success or not, they've cemented themselves as pop legends/manage to still create hype of some sort around their releases. Madonna (top of the top); Britney; Beyonce; Mariah Carey Tier 1: Rihanna; Adele; Taylor Swift; Lady Gaga; Katy Perry Tier 2: Ariana Grande; Selena Gomez; Miley Cyrus Tier 3: Demi Lovato; Lana Del Rey; Lorde; Zara Larsson Lol tier: Christina Aguilera; Halsey Rihanna is so, SO close to getting into the legacy tier right now.
May 27, 20178 yr Beyonce, Rihanna and Taylor are their own tier in terms of power in selling music. (Tier 1+) For terms of power and influence in general, it's them plus Gaga and Katy, and perhaps still Madonna, although she's on a knife edge now. (Tier 1) Then below that, Ariana, although she's maybe on her way to moving up, and perhaps Nicki Minaj as well. Maybe Shakira, worldwide-wise. (Tier 2) Below that, Miley and people like Selena. Demi may have briefly been there as well but I'd say she's fallen lower. I'd put Britney either here or halfway between it and the one above. (Tier 3) Below that, people like Lana, Lorde, and Carly Rae. (Tier 4) Then go down a long way and you have people like Iggy and Remy Ma. EDIT: I actually hadn't read the whole thread when I posted this one and also agree with the post directly above this one. On the topic of Miley exactly she's firmly tier 3 now and will be aiming for tier 2 with this next album, I feel. Edited May 27, 20178 yr by 360Jupiter

This seems about right, although I would argue Beyonce and Adele aren't in Tier 1 or Legacy and just floating around in their own category. Lana and Lorde are pretty much doing their own thing outside of the pop hierarchy as well.
May 28, 20178 yr Author I would actually put Zara Larsson on Tier 4, especially in the US! She's only really popular in the U.K and Sweden! I wouldn't even consider Carly o be tier three either!
May 28, 20178 yr Carly is in the best tier with the Robyn's and Solange's of the industry etc - critical darling that doesn't get much mainstream love.
May 29, 20178 yr 3. Rihanna (Although Anti was her first number one US album wasn't it?) Actually 'Unapologetic' was her first number one US album, but it still took ha 7 albums to get there.
May 31, 20178 yr This seems about right, although I would argue Beyonce and Adele aren't in Tier 1 or Legacy and just floating around in their own category. Lana and Lorde are pretty much doing their own thing outside of the pop hierarchy as well.Tbf, I put "legacy" just as a general name for the tier. I think all those in that tier are definitely in their own lanes and don't belong to a specific group.
May 31, 20178 yr No tiers available for Dua Lipa yet then? Nicki Minaj deserves some sort of mention too I feel for all her mainstream contributions of late.
June 3, 20178 yr No tiers available for Dua Lipa yet then? Nicki Minaj deserves some sort of mention too I feel for all her mainstream contributions of late. Nicki was on my tier 2
