I only ended up sending All My Life because Herzebania had taken Come With Me by Britt Love! I'm quite glad that happened in retrospect, not just because of the far better result but because Come With Me was rather throwaway looking back whereas this track is gorgeous and one I still play a lot now. You can rest easy now though Rollo, that was my final win for a good few years :lol:

 

Video Games and the Frida Gold track was the best top two since Agnes/Sound of Arrows, both utterly spellbinding tracks in their own way and miles ahead as my two favourites of that contest.

wasn't keen on Video Games at all in the contest but when it became a hit a few months later I loved it, me being a typical commercial hoe of course but it is a lovely tune, as you say the instrumentation is excellent and her voice is distinct.

I'd blocked out this run of winners tbh. *rocks back and forth humming The Last Time*

'All My Life' :wub: That was the first contest in which I experienced people predicting me to do really well in! Still absolutely ADORE 'Remember'. But yeah, what a song 'All My Life' is :wub: I hated 'Video Games' at the time. I still do. Well hate is a bit too "strong" a word, but I didn't like it. Thankfully she has better though.

Chart Music was great, although I think I sat that contest out if I remember correctly. I take nearly all of the credit of course with it clearly being inspired by Watch the World Go By, in fact history should reflect that it was the first FLJ winner. :kink:

37. Farahtyn - Inescapable - Jessica Mauboy

 

 

Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye and Kimbra was entered six months before it got to no.1 here. It finished 13th. Also in the line-up were Icona Pop,The Weeknd and Diana Vickers. Jessica Mauboy finished 18 points ahead of Jag Kommer by Veronica Maggio (Ashton) with Sabi's Wild Heart in 3rd place for United States Of Jack.

 

Inescapable was written by Diane Warren. She's written much better songs than this one,it's a formulaic pop song. Jessica was runner-up in the 2006 Australian Idol and has had nine top 10 singles in her own country.

 

6.5 out of 10.

 

 

I ADORE Jess M and Inescapable. But I so would have rather won with Jag Kommer than have Jess M win :kink:

The synthy production of 'All My Life' is really enjoyable. I feel like the song as a whole would grow on me loads with further listens.

 

The margin between my top two here is razor thin. 'Video Games' was a stunning commercial breakthrough for Lana :wub: her vocals sound so rich and entrancing and the production really stands out as being brilliant too. I like the simplicity of the video on top of this. Come back to us Isconia!

 

Sadly Jessica Mauboy having the same birthday as me does not guarantee her a high placing in my ranks :kink: much like the Charice song recently it just did absolutely nothing for me. 'Formulaic pop song' is pretty much bang on.

Former XFactor contestants Jedward and Diana Vickers both finished last in their semi-finals but Same Difference fared much better with 5th place in the final. Loreen won by 52 points,despite being given a 4% deduction. Red Hot by Lise Karlsnes was 2nd for FSR Rontvia and Call My Name by Tove Stryke finished in 3rd place for Herzebania.

 

Sober starts quietly and I thought it might be a ballad but the tempo soon picked up and it turned into a pop/dance tune. It's not outstanding but I enjoyed it,one of the better winners so far. This is before Loreen won Eurovision so another good pick by a BJSC country.

Demi Lovato,Melanie C and Gabrielle were amongst the finalists. I've noticed Gabrielle's name a few times and thought why is the 90s singer with the patch being chosen so many times? But it turns out this is a different Gabrielle. Ricki-Lee won by 10 points ahead of Aura Dione's Geronimo (Kluminican Republic) and Nuclear Seasons by Charli XCX (Mdice).

 

In my experience,any song that starts with lots of whoa,whoas is not going to be to my liking. This was all a bit too noisy for me,sorry RobBob. There is a connection to BJSC37 in that Jessica Mauboy replaced Ricki-Lee in the girl group 'Young Divas'.

All My Life *.* wonderful synth tune and quite an interesting winner. it's one of those earlier bjsc hits i took notice of (mainly since it was #1 in Iz's chart at the time!)

2011 did have a few stinkers (soz Jess Mauboy and Ricki Lee x) but things start getting pretty great in 2012 imo!

 

also, i had no idea about that Charice sex change :o not that i knew anything about her aside from like two songs but still that's kinda interesting~

Not a fan of the Jess Mauboy or Ricki-Lee winners, both far too pop hoe and dated for my taste. Clearly wasn't missing much in the four contests I left for in-between appearances, I suppose the Loreen winner was decent though it has nothing on Euphoria.

Raining Diamonds is one of my all time favourite BJSC discoveries. I play it super regularly and it's on my current every day playlist that I listen to continually.

Little Talks by Of Monsters And Men is now officially Buzzjack's favourite song from 2012. In this final,staged in late 2011,it finished in 20th place. Rachel Platten won by 16 points ahead of Young London's Let Me Go (Ojnoj) and Monsters (Eat Me) by The Charlies was 3rd for Unovia.

 

1000 Ships is a very happy sounding song which would surely put anyone in a good mood. It would be another four years before her Fight Song got to no.1,so another good pick for the future. Rachel's next two single releases after Fight Song failed to chart so she is still one of the 63 one hit wonders in the history of the UK chart.

Still one of my favourite winners ever. You don't get much more smiley and upbeat than 1,000 Ships and it even has rather inspired lyrics in comparison to Fight Song.

 

Raining Diamonds, Sober and Inescapable I all have a bit of a soft spot for as this was when I joined in and got addicted to basically every song entered, a far cry from today sadly but this was when it was all new to me.

'Sober' is probably only 2nd, behind 'Will You Remember Me Tomorrow?', as my favourite BJSC discovery. Thankfully I discovered this version, because the album version on 'Heal' is (quite considerably) my least favourite thing Loreen has released :cry: This version is so euphoric and is one of my all time fave songs!

 

'1000 Ships' is beautiful too! :wub: and 'Raining Diamonds' is a f***ing BANGER! I'll never forget the time it was randomly used in 'J'amie: Private School Girl' either *.*

nice to see Delphic getting some love :wub:! At the time i was completely shocked that it'd won, with male vocalists winning being completely unheard of. Despite them being on BBC sound of, i'm pretty sure no one commented on their threads on here at the time. 2010 was a good year for me :D! Also surprised myself that i managed to host twice and complete it! :lol:

 

It's been nice listening to some old songs, i forget how great 'shark in the water' is. It's making me want to rejoin, but i'm not sure how my musical tastes align these days with the current countries.

 

 

sidenote: I don't suppose anyone still has Rosanna 'Gameboy' hidden away on their itunes, or can even find it anyhwere online? It's such a GEM of a song, but i literally cannot find it anywhere!! :(
