Dragonette beating iamamiwhoami by tiebreak was very disappointing as I far preferred the latter. It got top marks from me though so nothing more I could have done. Let It Go is quite alright but very forgettable. I at least found it amusing how Pavel would forever hold a grudge against Dragonette for beating him that contest though, he'd still say Dragonette are the worst thing ever if he read this thread.

Video Games is still one of Lana's best, I never thought at the time she'd become such a fave for internet stans etc, but it's a beautiful winner. Inescapable is one of my least fave single by Jessica Mauboy, who is one of my favourite singers but she's one of those people who's worst is still better than a lot of people's stuff :kink: Sober is an absolute banger and a perfect winner, one of my faves to date. That song was enough perfect pop perfection so little did we know she'd do even better by about 30000x with the best song of all time Euphoria in the following Eurovision :o Raining Diamonds is another fave, Ricki being another of my fave singers. It's simply perfect pop with a huge chorus, doesn't try to be anything more. One of her best singles in a brilliant discography. 1000 Ships is one I hated at the time oops but it really grew on me as I loved Fight Song and the accompanying album, it's so cute and happy. Youth is another brilliant winner, one of those songs that proper hit me on first listen but it keeps growing to this day even when I listen now. Colours is the worst winner so far, I never liked it I just found it SO boring and it sticks out like a sore thumb in this run of a few brill winners. Let It Go is a banger, it's a shame that Play wasn't in a different contest and could have won, I prefer LIG so can't complain so Play would've been a fab winner I agree.

August 7, 20178 yr My first two contests *. Colours is wonderful, I think I gave it around 7 or 8 points, gorgeously atmospheric song. Let It Go is one of the better songs by Dragonette (I think I even pointed it at the time actually, but my tastes were a bit different back then), but I'm more than happy with it winning. People always seem surprised at this but I honestly REALLY didn't like play despite it seemingly being exactly the sort of thing I should be stanning, it's just annoying noise to these ears, her other songs I've heard have been significantly better. (Random note, but I also entered Bastille to that contest *_ I was just a little cheaper back then)

Eledan - Hyperventilating - Ronya BJSC42 winner Emma Hewitt made a swift return,once again representing Botanikka,but she could only finish third from bottom in a final won by Finnish singer Ronya who had a winning margin of 8 points over Leave The Lights On by Meiko (Kopecka). Obedear by Purity Ring was 3rd for Mdice. I love the piano intro on this one. As for the rest of the song,there's so much going on that I would want to listen to it several times before I could really assess it fully. Some of her vocal parts are a bit annoying and remind me of Cher Lloyd but there's also a bit of a Kate Bush influence in there as well. August 16, 20177 yr I do like 'Hyperventilating' but the other two songs in the top 3 were wayyyyyy better, especially 'Obedear' :wub: this was around the time I actually started being properly involved in BJSC (my earlier participations were pretty half-arsed) and that was one of the first songs I remember properly falling in love with around the time. My absolute fave of the contest however was Mr Little Jeans' 'Runaway' which came 8th and was for quite a while my favourite ever BJSC entry, and still somewhere up there with my all-time faves (as is 'Obedear' still).

It definitely should have been as it's one of my favourite winners so far <3 Her vocals are so unique but not to the point of being deliberately quirky and therefore annoying. Ingermanlandia - Run Boy Run - Woodkid It's good to see Gus Gus and Sigur Ros amongst the finalists but it was Woodkid who triumphed by a wide margin of 38 points with Mary N'Diaye's Big Dreamer in 2nd place for Greenfroze and I Love It by Icona Pop in 3rd place for Ramrynia a full year before it got to no.1 in the UK. I know this music from various TV programmes but it's only now I've found out what it's called and who it's by. The wiki page has 41 examples of adverts/TV programmes etc. where it has been used. I love the big production on this one,especially the orchestra and for me this is clearly the best winner so far so I'm going beyond 10 for my score. August 17, 20177 yr Seeing Woodkid win was such a MOMENT if not just cos it got my 12 but cos while I do recall it getting a lot of hype, it was so against the general sound at the time (the next winner confirmed that even more so for me!) that is was quite incredible, plus the fact it beat two huge pop songs that were predicted to run away with it. I'd imagine it would probably do even better now, a classic :heart:
August 17, 20177 yr I remember that Pavel held back 5 consecutive 12s (I think) for Woodkid as the last 5 votes to be revealed so that the song shot out to its huge lead out of nowhere right at the end (which had also been done in an earlier contest, Charice's IIRC). That was quite the moment. *.* This was pretty much the starting point of the 'hipster invasion'. I do miss that era. The next winner was even better tho <3
