I'm still fully in the what the hell were they thinking with this as the lead single camp.

It was only successful because it was the lead single by Taylor Swift. Sure, the campaign was messy as hell but this contributed.

There's nothing else on the album that would be more succesful

I disagree - it's easy to think that after how the singles have been handled/received since LWYMMD though

End Game would have been a much better lead

Which parody is better?? :P

Agreed it's a shame end game flopped if it was the lead it would have been massive possibly even bigger than LWYMMD

End Game would have been received as an insanely cheap lead single, featuring man of the moment Ed Sheeran and Future who is a big urban name. It would’ve gone #1 and maybe been more successful than LWYMMD was, but it would’ve been seen as a single which went #1 due to Ed rather than Taylor’s herself. Look made everyone realise how huge Taylor is/can be finally getting a UK #1 she deserved

I’m sorry I’m far from Taylor’s biggest fan but there is no way you can label it a flop :drama:

It's definitely not a flop, but it's hard to argue that it underperformed after the initial week. Hits these days have longevity with streaming etc, and this had none.

Anything she would have released first would have been massive - the song killed a lot of her hype, and now look at the campaign. That isn't just down to the messy rollout.

End Game should have been the second single though, an Ed Sheeran feature is too cheap for a lead.

It under-performed for sure, given how fast it fell down the charts in the UK and US but you can't call a two week #1 a flop.

This was definitely the best choice for lead single. Is it my favourite? Absolutely not. But it did what it set out to do and got everyone talking and realising she was back.

In hindsight, I feel like it did about as expected, for a song of it's nature? It doesn't strike me as the sort of song to gain much repeatability beyond the initial hype & controversy (beyond the mega stans like Sam ofc :P)

The era was a mess coz they rushed everything else that came after. They didn't know what to do. 'End Game' should probably have been the 2nd single with 'Ready For It' 3rd and 'Delicate' 4th. 3 singles in what? 2 and a half months? Is ridiculous by anybody's standards.

Underperforming and flopping are two totally different things. I cba with how "flop" is a buzzword now, everything has to be either a flop or "iconic" THere can't be an in between where it did objectively well (being a number 1) but it didn't sell or stick around as well as might be expected from an artist of her calibre. God forbid people's brains have to handle more than two categories...

I agree it was the best choice of lead though, I know you could say that anything would have been big and got people talking being her first single in a while (and that is true), but she got the Vevo record and it was that bit more controversial as a lead than say Ready For It or End Game so had talking points from the lyrics, video and less than conventional structure/instrumental etc.

Look what you made me do was such a big comeback video for Taylor it was the video that sets her to be back after a break in the music industry, I would love see more of her creation and more of her music from then the video all in all has amazing secret messages that Taylor Swift smashed in and made a new record.

I'm acc raging.

The fact it's not in best pop video in a category including a previously nominated Demi video, Shawn sitting on the floor, Payola Cara and others I'm acc done. This should've swept the noms I'm beyond shocked :(
