Ding-A-Ling actually hurts to listen to, I really don’t see how anyone could like it

I actually thought this was released mid/late 2016 but it turns out this was released in 2017!! This is another very weak effort from Maroon 5 featuring another rent-a-rapper appearance, the only part of this song I really remember is the beyond irritating chorus. Anyway this also did worse in the charts than I remembered and deserves to be higher here!

44. Katy Perry ft. Skip Marley - Chained To The Rhythm

Back when the Witness era seemed promising and I was beyond hyped for Katy's music, Katy's first lead single in 3 and a 1/2 years dropped and was a moderate hit in Europe (whilst underperforming in America). CTTR spent 3 weeks top 10 here, as it was effected by a certain someone dropping an album who'll be popping up a lot in this countdown, and is Katy's biggest hit this era! I love this and this is probably still up there with my favourite songs of the year (despite my adoration going down a little bit due to the album it comes from meaning I haven't really returned to it that much) and the video also slays! I'm glad this doesn't do bad here cos it's a fab song!

43. Calvin Harris feat. Young Thug, Pharrell Williams & Ariana Grande - Heatstroke

From the names involved, I was expecting this to be absolutely massive but then the song dropped and turned out to be an underwhelming forgettable song which did pretty much nothing chartwise. I was so hyped for Ariana on a Calvin track (despite my dislike of Pharrell and not knowing who Young Thung is, the latter redeemed himself with Havana though) but this just fell completely flat. However its also forgettable af so I'm not surprised to see this low down here!

I don't know if I hate this or Human more, both are dreadful but despite the complete overplay of Human I actually think I hate Skin more. Idek why I dislike it so much but his vocals are horrendous and this feels like an MOR album track filler from a popular British artist from like 2012. This spent ages in the top 40 but never reached the top 10, peaking at 13 despite 8 weeks in the top 20! Weak song and deserves to be higher here.

41. Little Mix ft. Machine Gun Kelly - No More Sad Songs

This is a bop & a fab song and really doesn't deserve to be in the hatechart :( I prefer CTTR more but this is a strong 2nd in terms of my favourites in this batch! NMSS is my least fave single from the GD era probably (it's kinda tied with Touch which is a lil overrated on here, Power>>>>>>>>>) and I also don't know if I prefer the solo version (I adore the pre-final chorus bit) or the single version (Machine's bit is acc pretty good). I love the video as well and this peaked at 15 in the UK and did pretty well! <3

NMSS wasn't great but nothing worth hating either, same with Cold/Skin - didn't like nor hate either.

Good to see Chained To The Rhythm and Heatstroke didn't finish too high here, Heatstroke is one of my least favourites on his album though, he could have chosen a good few other songs over it.

As I said at the time, if 'Heatstroke' was a Pharrell ft. Young Thug and Ariana Grande song it would have been much better received. I really liked it at the time, but its no Slide.

Katy Perry and Little Mix deserved to be much higher up.

Glad that 'Chained To The Rhythm', 'Cold' and 'No More Sad Songs' didn't amass that many points as I really like them all. 'Cold' is Maroon 5's best song in ages.
I mean even I didn't vote for 'Cold'. Maroon 5 had turned tolerable with this era until they ruined it again with 'What Lovers Do'.
No More Sad Songs is my favorite song on Glory Days and one of my favorite Little Mix songs of all time. It really didn't deserve to be in this chart.

No More Sad Songs and CTTR are both pretty great so not surprised to see them so low. Didn't like the video for NMSS so much though or the Machine Gun Kelly interlude, not up my street that.

Heatstroke tho, what a non-starter of a song and waste of guest vocalists.

I like Cold and Chained To The Rhythm, plus Skin is a great song.

Heatstroke is pretty decent but I haven't heard No More Sad Songs, I may have heard it once on Heart FM but pretty much forgot it afterwards.

'Ding-a-Ling' is just noise for me, wtf is even this after the super incredible 'Hurtin Me'???

I heard it on Spotify while going through some songs on the 1Xtra playlist. I just skipped after one and a half minute. Pretty weak effort compared to Hurtin' Me and Real Ting.

Those 5 songs are definitely not songs to be hated, but I agree they are mostly quite forgettable and meh at best. Pretty much all 5 were overshadowed by superior singles which came either before or after (or both)

No More Sad Songs is my fave from this LM era along with Touch (In contrast Power and Reggaeton Lento are dreadful).

Also Chained to the Rhythm is the only good KP song in years.

Glad both are out early.

I actually quite like Cold, What Lovers Do on the other hand...

Well thankfully this didn't finish all that high as it is a brilliant song imo. Criticisms here came mostly for the vocal performance some described as boring, and also for the minimal production, even from members who predominantly like dance music. It is certainly a unique chart hit anyway.

39. Katy Perry feat. Migos - Bon Appetit

Katy had a bit of a tough year, following her comeback single 'Chained' which despite being a top five hit didn't quite live up to expectations she released a single that is hard to deny flopped horrifically - only scraping our top 40 and doing even worse in America. The food metaphors are a bit much and it all feels a bit novelty, and because it is 2017 we get a pointless Migos guest feature.

38. Ed Sheeran - Castle On The Hill

Buzzjack's fate figure of the year in music definitely seems to be Ed Sheeran, who has been in the chart literally all year since he released this alongside 'Shape Of You' (yet to come). This isn't half bad really but radio would not let go of it for a while and it's not the kind of thing I'd want on repeat.

37. Imagine Dragons - Believer

Of the two Imagine Dragons singles to impact this year this was by far the worse for me, this is everything wrong with indie at the moment. Trying too hard to be anthemic it just ends up sounding like a car commercial, and the vocals in the chorus are borderline omg screech.

36. Katy Perry feat. Nicki Minaj - Swish Swish

So it seems we kind of hated Katy Perry this year but not really as all three of her entries appear in the bottom ten. 'Swish' was my favourite of hers but ends up as her highest entry. Well it's not exactly a musical masterpiece either, there are a few questionable lyrics and some would call it desperate for being a Taylor diss. And the video is a bit embarrassing.

Well unlike you, the rest of Buzzjack actually HAS sense and good taste and the worse one of the two finished higher.
