I'm probably going to be told how wrong I am but I'm actually preferring this to his debut...

I don't think it could ever achieve what BN did for me - that album is one that I will hold dear to me FOR LIFE but my gosh this is putting up such a strong fight. They are both totally different and who knows what levels this will elevate to in time  Too soon to say for me ~

I never quite got the fuss over his debut, although I can't say I gave it too many tries. This on the other hand has clicked instantly with me.

I feel like I ought to give his debut another few tries though as so many of you seem to regard it so highly...

Well I knew it'd be a struggle to hold a candle to "Blue Neighbourhood" (yes dandy* you are wrong) but this is better than I was expecting. It's a good pop album, and I love that many of the tracks bring it together well as a body of work. I was worried it was going to be that vacuous sophomore album riding on the wave of growing popularity. I'll definitely be giving this some more listens! "My My My", "Bloom" and "Dance To This" all sound better in context of the album.

His best song remains "Talk Me Down" though!

i'm gonna be the one who disagrees with both sides~

TRXYE is clearly the highlight of his career. Happy Little Pill is the best song he's ever done by far.

Just HOW can Bloom sound better than it already was? :P Pop single of the year!!!

The album is very good but quite safe. It flows from start to finish brilliantly though.

haha for me Bloom is one of the worst songs of 2018 and I'm a Troye fan

after a few listens, still nothing is clicking, nothing ever remotely close to Youth

personally a major major step down after album 1, it happens to many artists but didn't think it would happen to him

I think I agree  Talk Me Down is definitely up there too though

Agreed I think the album does flow incredibly well and like a story from start to finish.

Great Album

Yeah it's a beautiful story about discovering the joys of being sexually liberated and falling in love. The growth from 'Seventeen' and not really understanding the world around you, to 'Bloom' halfway through and losing your virginity right up to 'Animal' and being totally enamoured by someone. < 3

I really like this album: my favourites are My My My, Postcard and The Good Side.

Dance To This is easily the weakest, which is a shame tbh.

I also prefer this over Blue Neighbourhood.

You can tell he was inspired by Melodrama and Blonde on this. Never a bad thing! It doesn’t quite reach those heights but he’s made a really solid record (some cumbersome lyrics aside).

'This This' and 'Running Shoes' are nice - the album feels a little more complete with those included. It's a shame half the album was released months beforehand though. It ruins the initial listen.

Isn't there an edition with a reprise included? Such an odd choice to omit that from the standard tracklist.

Where tf has this 'Blue Neighbourhood' hate come from? :drama: One of my fave pop debuts in recent times.
Yes, I definitely can tell he was going for a bit of a Melodrama vibe with this one, I've seen that mentioned a few times.
Still not heard bonus tracks I'm a flop fan~ The rest of the album just keeps on growing on me further and I can't get enough. This is the 2nd album we deserved!

Been listening to this so much and it's such a beautiful album, flows so well from start to finish. All of the songs keep getting better with each listen. I'm not actually that familiar with most of Blue Neighbourhood (besides the singles), so will need to go back and visit that.

Ranking (likely to change with more listens) at the moment:

1. My My My!

2. Seventeen

3. Postcard

4. Plum

5. Bloom

6. The Good Side

7. Lucky Strike

8. Animal

9. What a Heavenly Way to Die

10. Dance to This

I have to echo the love for this album. It's such a strong set of songs, some of which I've known for months but feel completely different in the context of the album. "The Good Side" in particular I wasn't fussed on but has proven to be the biggest grower for me. There's no immediate stand-out but I think that's one of its many charms.

I definitely agree with the 'Melodrama' comparisons - I rarely visit individual tracks from that album, I prefer to listen to it as a whole and I imagine I'll do the same with this in future.
