April 14, 20187 yr Given that it features her that's not so surprising :P i know it features her but when janelle featured on grimes song it didn't sound like a janelle song, so it does come off a little sounding like janelle just singing someone else's song
April 17, 20187 yr Great article on Janelle Monae and female sexuality in pop music here: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2018/apr/...e-sexuality-pop
April 21, 20187 yr 'Dirty Computer' Mini movie is premiering on MTV and BET on Thursday 26th April, day before albums release. Starring herself and Tessa Thompson!! She's gonna give us a Lesbian 'Lemonade'-style woke film! *.*
April 26, 20187 yr This is so lush and sonically cohesive so far, it's gonna be brilliant with the mini movie  Pynk has really hit me in the context of the album! Make Me Feel remains one of the songs of the year.
April 28, 20187 yr This really is one of those albums to experience from start to finish. It's so expertly crafted. Janelle really is one of the most talented women out there at the moment. Saying that, I'm really living for 'Americans'. The verses and intro are so late 80's/early 90's Madonna mixed with a completely Prince inspired bridge and chorus. I'm fully here for a video of her performing on stage paying homage to those two performers, in a similar way to how Bruno paid homage to that sort of era with his 'Treasure' video. This album is gonna be one of those masterpieces that really stands out and will be eternally relevant.
April 28, 20187 yr jdH2Sy-BlNE Now THIS is how you do a visual album. SLAYAGE. Edit: It's not the entire album but anyway Edited April 28, 20187 yr by ♡ Heezus Froot ♡
April 29, 20187 yr I am here to basically say exactly what Jonjo has already said: special album, and one that will remain relevant and important and beautiful for YEARS to come. Also here for his 'Americans' love. I am in love <3
April 30, 20187 yr This really is one of those albums to experience from start to finish. It's so expertly crafted. Janelle really is one of the most talented women out there at the moment. Agree with this, it reminded me of something that could have been released alongside Cherish in 1989. Really great album, Americans is sooo good in particular.
April 30, 20187 yr Such a fantastic album. So many melodies! I love how on the surface it is a sugary homage to the late eighties, Madonna, Prince etc but really it's massively political and has some really biting social commentary.
April 30, 20187 yr Just had my first listen to this. Really impressed and will listen again. It only really seemed to dip around tracks 11-13 (I seemed to zone out easily) but then "Americans" throws an epic punch to end the album off with.
April 30, 20187 yr Have been thinking about little else but this album today! It seems to have really hit me hard. 'I Like That' is so empowering. The final spoken monologue "even back then, with the tears in my eyes, I always knew I was the shit" is a message we all need.
April 30, 20187 yr Same Bal! The mini movie really is an experience in itself! So many relevant and important messages and themes throughout! She really is extraordinary.
April 30, 20187 yr Saying that, I'm really living for 'Americans'. The verses and intro are so late 80's/early 90's Madonna mixed with a completely Prince inspired bridge and chorus. I'm yet to listen to the album but I checked out 'Americans' after the good reviews and this is exactly what came to my mind. The spoken first verse reminds me of Madonna's 'Til Death Do Us Part' and the rest is like Prince's 'Let's Go Crazy'. She's got that same skill that Madonna had in terms of dealing with important issues in accessible, pop songs. Despite the comparisons though, the song is still fab in its own right and Janelle clearly has a direction and a message of her own to portray. Really excited to listen to the rest of the album!
April 30, 20187 yr This as a whole package is SUCH a moment, it's a cohesive piece of work that conveys her message perfectly, never compromising herself and her style but making it feel so commercial and wide appealing, without losing the statement. Incredible
