Heavy Metal Lover is definitely among my fave Gaga moments, loved it back when it was released and its charms have not diminished in the slightest... in fact I think it has aged really well *.*

Can call all you want but there's no one home

| 14 // Telephone // The Fame Monster // 8.52

Gaga's last #1 single bows out at 14. A song about the fear of suffocation in a relationship, and having fun when out rather than stressing about a loved one back home. In a rare collaboration, Queen B herself teamed up for the originally Britney-penned banger. Grammy nominated and a huge commercial success, it came at a time when Gaga was unstoppable. But not content with just having a huge single, she also wanted a huge video and boy did she deliver. Continuing on from 'Paparazzi', it tells of how Beyoncé bailed out Gaga from prison and went on to cause rampage and carnage together. Totally empowering and fun, it's one of the greatest music videos of all time for all its extravagance and detail. Inspired by Tarantino among other movie references, it was nominated for 3 awards at the VMAs, was named the best video of the first half of the decade by Billboard and has continued to make splashes years later. The song had a tender moment at the 2010 Brit Awards, when Gaga performed a stripped back version of the song in memory of Alexander McQueen. An all-round iconic song, video and moment of Gaga's career but not even top 10 worthy for you guys. So much more goodness to come ~

There ain't no other way

| 13 // Born This Way // Born This Way // 8.54

The most hyped song in Gaga's career, and perhaps one of the most anticipated songs by a pop star ever. The lead single from the album of same name, Gaga was on top of the world before this song's release. But not content with continuing on the same wave, Gaga turned instead to the people that made her who she is - the monsters she saw at her gigs and tours, the screaming fans that idolised her. Born This Way was a song for her fans, and while it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, for millions across the globe it immediately became an anthem and a life-mantra for a new generation. As she announced the song's title at the 2010 VMAs, dressed in an outfit made entirely from meat, fans knew she was here for them, in this song, in the album that was to follow, and for the rest of their lives. Reaching #1 in over 25 countries, and becoming the 1000th #1 in Billboard's history, it went on to become a mammoth hit for her. The music video showed the birth of a new race, bred on love and compassion and was inspired by Madonna, MJ, classic cinema, Greek mythology and so much more. It was a monstrous, yet beautiful ode to her fans and the song too became the same. Performed at the Grammys (egg/vessel) and played in gay clubs and pride events across the world, whatever you think of the song, there is no denying the impact it had on her fans. I can only speak for myself, but I certainly would not be the person I am today without this song and so for that it will forever have a place in my heart. I was born to brave.

'Telephone' is still my favourite Gaga music video to date  I will never forget it being the talk of school the entire day after it was released.

'Born This Way' is so special, my favourite LGBTQ+ anthem for sure <3 and 'Heavy Metal Lover' is an enormous highlight of the BTW album *.* so quotable.

I don't wanna be alone forever, but I can be tonight

| 12 // Gypsy // ARTPOP // 8.73

The penultimate song to fall out from ARTPOP (only one single remains) is the tour's closer and what SHOULD have been the album closer. Gypsy stands out on the album, it is almost a follow-up to The Edge of Glory, it is about freedom, the open road, living life to its fullest and having a state of glory despite trials you may face. She has described it as the most personal song on the album, and wrote it in response to the loneliness that she felt touring across the world for the BTW Ball. Anthemic, heart-warming and comforting, Gaga states that her fans are the people that are closest to her - it is through them that she sees the world, it is through them that she has company, and it is through them that she can truly live her life. It was heavily rumoured to be the third single from the album, but plans fell through and it instead remained a special, tender moment, on an otherwise abrasive album... A moment of pure, sheer, bliss masking the pain and loneliness that the lady carries with her.

Definitely agree that it was a missed single opportunity! By far the best album track from ARTPOP
In a way I feel like Gypsy should've been the lead, such a soaring blissful song that I think perfectly encompasses everything that makes her such an amazing artist. But equally I quite like being "special" just to the album

It should have been the lead

Imagine a single run of this, then Do What You Want, then Applause! Applause would have been third AND buzz single, seeing as she could have pretended it was lead for THAT to leak in low qual.

Omg Gypsy as lead single would've been perfect! *.*

Applause is so weak and should've been left as a cute album track.

Gypsy, DWUW, G.U.Y., Sexxx Dreams are the ones on the album.

GUY and Sex Dreams are atrocious, especially the vocals and production of sex dreams. Applause would need to a single followed by ARTPOP itself. The rest of the album is :o

OMG I had no idea that "Gypsy" was so well-liked on here! I thought that I was the only one. Now that you mention it, it definitely does feel like a sequel to "Edge of Glory". I would have loved a video for it too but I actually really like "G.U.Y." still (and I'm sure you all would too if it had been a hit).

Agreed, actually!

Those 4 as singles would've made a good era out of what was a patchy (to say the least) album.

| 11 // Alejandro // The Fame Monster // 8.80

Narrowly missing out on the top 10 is the third single from Gaga's monster repackage. Alejandro is inspired by Gaga's "fear of men" and follows on nicely from Telephone, as she is now signalling goodbye to her past lovers that have wronged her. Inspired by pop music of decades before, from the likes of Madonna and ABBA, the song is a rousing, pulsating, Euro-dance monster. It went on to become yet another huge hit for her as she was unstoppable and the music video that accompanied it, again took inspiration from Madonna and presented a colder, darker side that the song didn't really reveal before it came. For some it is a weak representation of what the song stands for, but for others it is a perfectly twisted look at Gaga's battle against men. Controversial for its depiction of religion (perhaps alluding to patriarchy in all its forms), it continued to show how visually creative and powerful she could be. Her record label wanted Dance in the Dark to be released instead, but Gaga stuck to her guns and eventually won a battle against them, choosing to release this instead. It's a brilliant song, full of so many moments, but unfortunately it didn't quite do enough to warrant a top 10 spot here.
