That's an 'exception' because their logic is that because the album is allowed in the album chart (for whatever reason), its songs are treated as if they're by the same artist.

Well the US are probably getting the entire J. Cole album in their top 40 including the intro and interludes so that's laughable enough without it having to ruin our chart too.

Drake managed to get "Skepta Interlude" into the top 40 :')

To be fair Skepta is a very popular artist here and the song is 2:23 long (longer than Bazzi 'Mine') so an interlude in name only really, though I suppose it only went top 40 because it was on the Drake album.

 

What was funny is that 'Skepta Interlude' was an actual US top 100 hit when Skepta's never had a hit there before, and because it's credited to Drake, Skepta still has technically never had a US hit.

Cole's case won't be too extreme in the US either I think. Only the intro to the album is under 3 minutes long, and that's surely not gonna land very high with how fast its plays are bleeding out.

You can’t blame streaming for that though I remember Taylor swift had her whole (possibly most) Speak now album top 100 in the US before streaming was even a thing :o

Good to see Golden selling another 5.4k this week so far. Could be near the 70k mark after only 3 weeks which is brilliant for Kylie and still lots of promo to come ahead of her birthday end of May.

Where has the impression that it is a per album thing come from? It has been per artist since day 1.

 

Was just a question as I don’t avidly follow the chart rules. I just knew it happened after ed Sheeran’s latest album and thought it was per album to stop all the tracks charting

But once again, you could just imagine Ed Sheeran or Drake releasing a bunch of three-track EPs and all songs would chart. This way means the rules are less likely to be bent.

How about, say, max 2 tracks per album and 5 tracks per artist in total? That would solve a few more of the problems at least.

I meant singles wise. 3 singles in top 40 with not many individual downloads.

Looks like Kylie is closing in on 6th and 7th in album charts. if she could finish week 3 of the campaign with a number 6 album that would be fantastic.

but if I buy an album for 9.99 and play it 5000 times in a week on my mp3 player it still counts for 1 sale...... not fair and everyone knows it..... needs to be some kind of weighting added to the formula.
