April 23, 20188 yr I appreciate that rules are rules but really wish the OCC would change it so that songs are removed from ACR on the week they experience a large boost, would make a lot more sense as it would better reflect the sudden resurgence in popularity. Not just for artists who died but songs getting big boosts from adverts/talent shows.

April 23, 20188 yr Author It's set for 60-65k very good but not stellar! In this day and age though, when weekly sales in general are low and Ari hasn't even come close to an OA/OS #1 in the past, I'd say it's very impressive.

My 68 year old Dad called me earlier and says he’s listened to the top few on the chart, said he liked the Ariana song, that Drake song is excellent but what the hell is a Calvin Harris. I listened to the song again and agreed, it is shockingly bad! If it wasn’t them two then it would not touch the charts.

Calvin's last single missed the top 40 entirely for example. It's just very popular, and you and your dad are clearly not representing the majority of music listeners in the UK.

April 23, 20188 yr I wonder when we will next have a 100k+ chart sales #1. The sales look good for the current market I guess. As nice a tribute it would be for Avicii to have more than 3 songs chart, I am still glad the cap is in place. You only have to look at how many J Cole and Nines album tracks would make it if they weren't. Better to have a cap in place than have mad weeks where you get crazy numbers for all the album tracks, before they all suddenly drop out the following week when people move onto the next big release. Ideally they would amend the rules to only include official singles, but things like that are getting harder to define these days.

April 23, 20188 yr Pleased to see a number of Avicii tracks reappearing in the T40 and his albums. A nice tribute to a very talented artist who will be sadly missed. Yes indeed. I hope all three of his songs in the singles chart update make top 40 at the end of the week. Glad to see 'Like I Do' by Guetta/Garrix/Brooks top 40 too on the update. Maybe that's one small good thing that might happen out of Avicii's sad passing, that dance music might become more popular again and we will get more dance hits going top 40.

April 23, 20188 yr Author I think tomorrow's update will tell us more about 2002! However I expect streaming will give Bebe the edge (I can see Post Malone being #8, Zedd #9, Bebe #10, Anne-Marie #11)
