April 24, 20188 yr Isn't 'The Greatest Showman' charting in the album chart because it's an "Original Cast Recording" as opposed to it being a compilation of artists performing songs as part of a soundtrack? I like they're being seperated like that and although I'd have loved to have seen 8 Greatest Showman songs in the top 40 officially, it is only fair that they're not excepted from the rule tbh. So think of the artists as 'The Cast of The Greatest Showman' as opposed to a compilation of songs used to soundtrack the film. (Like the Fifty Shades soundtracks, Guardians of the Galaxy soundtracks etc..) As for that 3 song rule in general though... I'm not a fan. I think it should change to, if the artist releases the song as it's own individual release, then it can chart. But anything that's streamed from the album that hasn't been given a standalone release charts towards the album. So post album singles will only start being counted the week of it's standalone release.
April 24, 20188 yr Can settle for SMFF not going top 40 as long as it has a few more weeks top 100. Dancing managed it against the odds, will go on to sell around 100k and Golden should go gold so overall I am happy :D

Also I think SMFF has a good chance to go Top 40 - there is the remix package and strong promo to come and BMG could decide on a physical after Dancing went T40.
April 25, 20188 yr I think it's fair that "cast albums" like TGS are allowed in the chart, cos they're not really compilations, it's 100% the opposite of a compilation like Now 94 that is just a collection of songs that have already charted like song 1 is Drake - One dance, song 2 is Rudimental - These Days etc TGS is a collection of new tracks by the cast of the movie, so for me it makes perfect sense to be included in the album charts I would even expand it and include soundtracks with new tracks like Black Panther, it's not a cast album but it's a collection of new tracks, it's nothing like Now 94 so allowing only 3 songs in the singles charts makes sense too. the only thing that the occ should do in order for everything to be 100% correct is then in the singles charts the 3 songs should be credited as TGS-Emsemble instead of having individual credits like Hugh Jackman, then it would all made sense

April 25, 20188 yr I guess it must have changed a few times, I think the Madonna Evita soundtrack and I'm Breathless (both cast recordings) charted on the main albums chart
April 25, 20188 yr i think that until the recent rule change, soundtracks were not allowed like for instance The Bodyguard was not allowed. I'm Breathless counted as a Madonna album I think cos she sings all the songs herself. I think that with Evita, they shouldn't have let it chart cos she does not sing all the songs herself, but they did anyway
April 25, 20188 yr Ariana is doing astonishingly well here in the UK. She’s on 48k while One Kiss was on 42k this time last week, with the biggest sales (at that point) of the year. It’s set to have the second highest opening sales of the year, it’s a shame the actual highest happens to be on the same week...
