August 8, 20186 yr A shame to see both "Diamonds" and "Touch" just missing out on the top 50 - I'm surprised the former is just peaking now but there has always been oversaturation of Rihanna in the final, which makes it difficult to choose which songs to vote for. The latter should be a top 20 contender at some point I'd imagine, despite 2017 being seen as a 'weak' year for music, there's still 7 other songs from last year ahead of it! Speaking of, that's a great debut for "Havana"! I didn't expect "Hard Times" to be so high as well although the best Paramore song is yet to come  Hopefully "Untouchable" can get a new peak next year in its final outing, I can't see "Something New" ever getting into the top 50 unfortunately.

Now, his untimely and tragic death earlier this year surely aided them a little, making us take note of songs we'd overlooked, and especially Wake Me Up for its now tragic lyrics, but there's also the idea that Wake Me Up is one of the biggest dance songs of the decade and is very likeable. As a representation of Avicii, along with Levels just below it, it leads the charge for our love for his music, as a song, it's even without that, one of my favourites in the final. An almost similarly improved change of fortunes for Zhu's Faded is incredible to see for me as well. One of the best of the deep house wave, it exudes an addictive air of coolness that calms my soul, and that huge climb from the low 300s into the top 40 is wonderful to look at. It just beats Crying For No Reason, a former top 10 that's always been one of the bigger hitters from 2014, but falls to its lowest position so far. Remedy does what I'd never expected and provides a new talking point! It often just does averagely at this stage, but this year it's managed to get all the way up to #38 and a new peak. Well done Little Boots. Also getting a new peak, and leaving us in what will probably be Britney's final appearance in a ROTD final (I don't see any of the ones she has left ever challenging quite that hard), Piece Of Me leaves us by racing up to #37 with a run that made me not expect this at all. Congratulations to Britney. Also also also getting a new peak, and also leaving us, one of my favourite songs that ended up being very present during my teen years, Human. While not quite as ubiquitous as Mr Brightside, it was a higher-peaking hit, spawning the eternal question 'are we human or are we dancer?' and just having a lovely instrumental riff that makes it a pleasure to listen to. It's had a renaissance in its last few years on here and I'm very glad that it managed to beat the odds and keep going higher before finally leaving us. Years & Years get a hefty new peak with Shine, while Poker Face, Teenage Dream and Break Free move around a bit. While Ariana and Gaga still have three songs between them left to come, this is where we must say goodbye to Katy Perrry, who has done a bit better in ROTD in the last few years with the elevation of Teenage Dream to a huge hitter, but it's not quite as high as the high of last year.
August 8, 20186 yr great to see Levels and Wake Me Up finally doing really well here even if for unfortunate reasons.
August 8, 20186 yr great to see Levels and Wake Me Up finally doing really well here even if for unfortunate reasons. Shame it isn't Silohuettes - my fave Avicii song by quite some way now, but yeah it is good to see this year that a lot of dancier songs are on the rise Edited August 8, 20186 yr by ElectroBoy
August 8, 20186 yr I actually do not know which song by the name of "Faded" is which so I am very surprised that both of them are top 40 here. Â A shame to see both "Teenage Dream" and "Break Free" dropping this year, I thought after last year that the former would be on track for the top 10! Nice that both "Human" and "Piece of Me" are going out on highs, I'm always surprised by how well the latter and "Womanizer" have done for Britney in this. I hope "Work Bitch" picks up a bit more traction in the coming years.
August 8, 20186 yr Listening to Flesh Without Blood for the first time in a while. Â Whew~ Â She did that~
August 8, 20186 yr Fake Happy > Rose-Colored Boy Fake Happy is the only song on the album I really dislike, so there we go, different strokes and all that...

Sia) - Titanium 247 ( 7 - 17 - 33 - 23 - 34 - 27 ) 29 44 2009 Lily Allen - The Fear 246 (more votes) ( 29 - 10 - 48 - 48 - 39 - 42 - 21 - 44 - 28 ) 28 19 2012 Lana Del Rey - Born To Die 246 ( 104 - 119 - 189 - 26 - 19 - 29 ) 30 38 2016 Christine & The Queens - Tilted / Christine 245 ( 38 - 30 ) Tilted moves up a short way from its debut last year. I do love the way this song has become such an agreed upon classic in its short time as a hit, and may it continue to climb in future years. It's just below a short fall from Born To Die, now in its third year of lifef at the high end of the final. Just ahead of it, 5 places up, is the other song from Lana, continuing to do well but not quite in the top 20 this time around. So that is Lana leaving us in one swoop, she's done well as ever but not quite as high as she can go. Titanium and The Fear continue their very respectable and consistent runs among our favourites, although I feel obliged to point out that The Fear got 20 votes to Born To Die's 12. It's a very consistently liked song, The Fear, with incredible lyrics (as ever with Lily). Uprising manages to prove last year wasn't a fluke by doing nearly as well this year, only dropping ever so slightly. It's one of Muse's best and again, has some of the best lyrics in the top 20, great potential protest song and a banger besides. And there's one farewell here, Fascination leaves the competition going out on a fantastic high. In fact, that's a 7 year straight climb, never dropping once, and finishing as 25th best overall. Such a happy joyful song, I'm glad it's got such a good end. The fourth highest new entry goes to Symphony, which, as the official best pop song of last year, I'm very happy about. It's classically great Clean Bandit, a gorgeous instrumental swoop and well sung pop from Zara to round it out. I hope it will have many years of doing excellently in this. Pompeii moves up to a small new peak, and Get Lucky holds pretty much steady just outside the top 20 to mark what is actually still not anywhere near the top of the 2013 songs. Speaking of, here are the year counts left as we go into the top 20: 2008: 1 2009: 1 2010: 1 2011: 2 2012: 3 2013: 3 2014: 1 2015: 3 2016: 2 2017: 3 2017 drawing with some of our favourite years! Also only one song in the top 20 that will be leaving us next year.
August 8, 20186 yr Excellent debut for Symphony... was hoping it would sneak a top 20, but good to see it do well :)
August 9, 20186 yr Ah I didn't realise that Grimes had done this well last year too. It's a really good song and all but I'm slightly mystified as to why that's the go-to non-hit to do well in this the last couple of years. Grimes has better songs. x Decent debuts for 'Havana' and 'Be The One'. I'd be super happy with how Paramore have done if it weren't for the fact the one doing best is one of their more mediocre singles - 'Hard Times' in the top 50 is nice though, hopefully we can get 'Ignorance' up there next time :PÂ Yesss at the massive rise for ZHU out of nowhere *.* and also here for 'Human' and 'Remedy' finally going top 40. Not so much at 'Piece Of Me', but at least we're hopefully now done with Britney in this thing. x Not much of interest in that 21-30 section, I'm surprised that 'Get Lucky' is still doing so well in this as I don't think it's aged as well as I wanted it to (although it's still solid). Yay for Bastille and Christine climbing to new peaks. 'Symphony' can go away, one of my least favourite Clean Bandit songs but I realise I'm fairly alone in that opinion x
August 9, 20186 yr Author bpOSxM0rNPM OblL026SvD4 16 13 2014 Clean Bandit (feat. Jess Glynne) - Rather Be 291 ( 23 - 27 - 13 - 16 ) 17 53 2015 Years & Years - King 286 ( 19 - 53 - 17 ) 18 103 2013 Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know? 283 ( 66 - 26 - 53 - 103 - 18 ) 19 127 2011 Adele - Someone Like You 282 ( 10 - 35 - 34 - 113 - 161 - 127 - 19 ) 20 69 2013 Paramore - Still Into You 280 ( X - 125 - 116 - 69 - 20 ) One of the best things about running this as a Paramore fan is the new and unexpected heights their songs seem to reach every year. Last year, Misery Business left the game on a career high of 25th overall and I was ecstatic then. So to have their best chance left, Still Into You, moving up so hard that it outdoes even that, into the top 20 of the decade, is just a fantastic piece of good news. My 30, a song that always makes me feel good from its joyful declaration of lengthy love, it couldn't be a better start to the top 20. Someone Like You looked like it was dropping off majorly, and I had thought good riddance, it's by far from her best song and Rolling In The Deep shows off Adele's talent far better. I'm proved outnumbered this year though, as after three straight misses in the final, Someone Like You is back in it and ready to prove that its #10 debut wasn't just a fluke of recency bias. Do I Wanna Know also missed out on the final last year and also comes straight back in at a top 20 placing, the critically acclaimed but lower key Arctic Monkeys song proving a well-regarded late Arctics successor. Their debut, I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor, left this competition in the top 10 a few years ago, perhaps they still have another top 10 in them? I am really surprised this got so high though, as great as it is, maybe Buzzjack would have to shift a bit more away from 'pop'. King mirrors the run of Shine to an extent except more successful, did Years & Years fans just forget to vote last year? Anyway, a strong pop song from Olly Alexander and crew, gaining itself a new peak.  And Rather Be, I think it's living up to my expectations a little, but like with Titanium, I always imagined it would do slightly MORE. With more Clean Bandit songs in the running, it's stood out a little less to me at least, but it remains their highest for now. I wonder if that will hold out.
August 9, 20186 yr Author dMK_npDG12Q ksdAs4LBRq8 11 80 2012 Gotye (feat. Kimbra) - Somebody That I Used To Know 329 ( 19 - 62 - 49 - 15 - 80 - 11 ) 12 NE 2017 Lorde - Green Light 315 ( 12 ) 13 NE 2017 Rita Ora - Anywhere 302 ( 13 ) 14 20 2012 Of Monsters And Men - Little Talks 292 ( 54 - 106 - 48 - 10 - 20 - 14 ) 15 188 2016 Alan Walker - Faded 291 ( 188 - 15 ) Faded I expected to do well from the off, given it won the 2016 Multichart. It did rather disappointingly in its first year given that, but thankfully, one of the most wonderful chart hits of the last couple of years has recovered to deliver the performance it was meant to deliver in the first place, almost getting to 300 points and as the second-best performing song of 2016. Alan Walker may have proved to not have many more global hits in him (but many jamming dance songs), but he's got this, and long may it sit in the ROTD top 20. I think ROTD made a good decision here. Three straight years in the top 20 for Little Talks means that many more pop fans are probably turning off at this point, but who doesn't like Little Talks? No one, that's who :D It's a less than symmetrical move, would have been far more aesthetically pleasing had it gone to #15, but the votes don't care about the pretty chart runs sadly. Two new entries now. The first, Anywhere, is by a large distance the highest Rita Ora has ever been in this. See, before Anywhere, even pop fans would probably privately admit that she was a bit below par for a popstar, no greatly acclaimed singles and a lot of, ahem, fast food music. This can be proved by her second highest (not counting Lonely Together) being I Will Never Let You Down down at #167, and nothing else to be seen beyond that. Anywhere changed all that, at least in ROTD, and I think, from what I understand, the wider world as well. It's gotten a bit old for me through overplay now, but it's still this well put together and enjoyable song that sounds like it comes from a top draw Rihanna album. Rita's maturing, guys. Lorde has always gotten rave reviews, although Royals, her biggest hit, didn't do so well on here, Perfect Places and Team, two much smaller hits, were in the top 200. She's been also growing in her fanbase, and with Green Light 13 points ahead of Anywhere, she wins the 2017 bat... oh, there's one new entry in the top 10. Put that on hold then. But Green Light, I've barely seen a bad word ever written about that song, a fun song that just exudes quality from it. I expect it will be around the business end of ROTD for a long time to come. Somebody That I Used To Know remains unforgotten. It fell to its lowest place yet last year but it's already proved able to bounce back once before, and it did again this year, to its highest position yet. Maybe next time what is considered the best DUET of the current decade will finally get itself its top 10.

August 9, 20186 yr Great top 10! I don't remember if The Mother We Share ever does this well, but it's a great addition either way and yesss Coldplay quite rightfully the highest remaining 2008 song  Was a bit worried after how Coldplay have done this year. Faded needs to be a future top 10 in this. I think Carly might *ahem* run away with this again, I think One Last Time could be it's biggest challenge.

It's a perfect pop rock song that's fun and simple, nice to see it getting the recognition it deserves. :cheer:
August 10, 20186 yr This is damaging to my narrative that Gotye is largely forgotten Loving seeing Lorde so high up, 'Green Light' is far from her best song (it's only like my 5th or 6th favourite song on 'Melodrama' alone) but still great. Also fabulous to see Arctic Monkeys rebounding so nicely to a big new peak and a good rebound for 'Someone Like You' as well. Like I mentioned in my last post I'm a bit meh on 'Still Into You' really but good for Paramore to be top 20. 'Viva La Vida' in the top 10 on its final appearance, excellent! Hopefully not 10th. x 'New Rules' is a fine choice for the highest new entry and also great that CHVRCHES are still up here (I remember them doing very well in this in the past, don't know if that was last year or the year before). As for the rest of those... I mean it's still ROTD, the crazy turnover can only go so far x
