Jessie J’s? Certainly x Sia’s was amazing tbh I hate when artists release albums that are only covers like what’s the point?

No, Sia's monstrosity

Iy will finally have competition for the title this year!

I don't understand how people would willingly subject their poor ears to EITHER

Who is allowing her to do this?! Surely her management should be telling her what a hot ratchet mess she is.

a few years back I went to a conference by this guy who's the boss of Atlantic records and he was explaining marketing strategies etc

and he told that for acts that have lost it a bit, he always recommends releasing a Xmas album

cos it's something that a lot of people buy even non-fans and can help you get back on track

probably it's useless for Jessie J cos she's well past her recovery but don't think it's a bad strategy per se

So it’s a desperate album released by a desperate person?

Christmas is cancelled. :(

And John Legend is now also releasing a Christmas album the same day as Jessie's one. Are my least fave artists trying to permanently ruin Christmas for me or something 😂😂

This sounds like really terrible advice, who has this ever worked for?

That logic barely makes that much sense if you look at real examples. Michael Buble and Rod Stewart released Christmas albums at times they were shifting loads of albums and they were successful. I can’t even remember Leona, Kelly, Gwen or Sia charting particularly well.

I seem to remember Kylie doing ok at best.

Christmas albums can do well but it hardly revives someone’s career - at best they get an annual sales boost but I don’t think Christmas albums set up the next studio album to do well. There have been some decent successes Kylie and Leona both got gold albums - Jessie will be lucky to get a copper award
Jessie will advertise it before her 8 billion viewed video Bang Bang which will translate into at least 100m sales from the UK and make it the highest selling female Christmas album with the song ‘This Christmas Day’ on it.

I think it might heighten their chances of promo slots and radio play. If they've covered a well-known Christmas song, people are more likely to check it out and continue to listen or buy it as there's that familiarity there. There's always Christmas shows on TV and a name in the public's consciousness (however vaguely) mixed with a familiar Christmas classic is a good enough reason to book them. Regardless of whether the albums themselves shift many copies, I think the artists in question are likely to make more money from Christmas albums than they would another studio album that would flop out of existence.

I think it definitely worked for Leona - even though her last album flopped completely, in a way I think it has furthered her career a little more than it would have without the Christmas album, plus she got a hit song out of it which has become something of a modern Christmas classic.

One of the most iconic pop moments of last year tbf

Omg I remember bursting out laughing when I first heard that song and I’m a big fan of hers too but i can’t listen to that song without laughing at that opening line.

THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING *.*

Anticipating the tweet share of her being #10 on the Christmas album charts and she assumes she's #10 on the iTunes album charts when she's actually #221 *.*
