I expected Sigala to drop back, it is a nice surprise the album has instead climbed.

Good to see Sigala regaining a place.

Can totally understand why dance acts don’t release albums though - he’s achieved 6 Top 10 Hits and a further 2 Top 40s all of which are on the album, plus 4 Platinum, 2 Gold and 2 Silver awards for those releases and his album will miss the Top 10 and will be lucky to have opening sales of 7,000!

Or maybe the reason is that album containing a #1 from 2015 should've come out 2 years ago...

A fair point though re dance albums. Calvin Harris is the biggest producer in the world yet both his last albums missed #1 in the UK! Chainsmokers are arguably the biggest dance group right now & charted only at #3.

Dance albums simply just don't sell well, there's only ever been a few exceptions.

The general album buying public go for new big pop acts or long time established acts. The streaming generation go mostly for rap albums. Dance acts don't have big fanbase buys to help them either, they have to rely on having lots of hit singles.

Could Happier remain at #2 considering it’s #1 on Spotify?

I hope not. Next week is it’s only chance of #1 as Little Mix release their new single next week

Well, I don't think Little Mix are guaranteed to go straight in at #1. I feel like this could debut low top 10/high top 20 but climb to a top 3 peak. Butttt this all depends on whether their label push it on Spotify and to what extent (i.e. they don't mess it up like they did 'Only You')
2008 was a year that commercial dance albums seemed to do particularly well for some reason. Scooter and Basshunter went to #1, Darren Styles went top five, Ultrabeat I think had a top ten album that year, not sure what was in the water as all of those acts rarely did that well before or since.

Syco weren't in control of Only You though that was Cheat Codes team, I think this being their proper lead single Syco will give it a big push plus with Nicki featuring it adds an extra element.

I think they are on for a Top 5 debut at the very least.

Rod Stewart is still somewhat of a force, my mum adores him I've grown up hearing his music. I'd like to Cher to have got it, but in the long run Rod has had a much more steady career than Cher so it's no surprise really.
Only true dance act kings like Disclosure can get to #1 twice with their albums :P

Easy to get to @1 on a dead week

Total sales is what matters

Only dance album to do great in recent years has been Calvin - 18 months

and that was a total Greatest Hits

Fans of dance buy more singles than albums

In fairness, Sigala’s is also like a greatest hits. Main difference is he releasing it after all the singles so not much incentive for casual fans to buy into the rest.

I think it could do alright in the long run because it has so many hits on it (at least with streaming), just not big numbers early on.

The only way it will do alright in the long run is if he gets another couple of big hits off it, and even then I don't think it will do big numbers. Dance albums just don't sell.

Also, I do believe this is my 10,000th post  I win some kind of Buzzjack award now, right?
