2018 was, according to many music critics, arguably one of the worst years in music :puke2: especially regarding quality and variety.

There have been a lot of undeserving number 1's and a lot of songs which stayed at number 1 longer than they should due to the lack of big new releases... so which number 1 was in your opinion the worst of the worst and why?

Close call between River & Shallow but plumped for the latter as River is basically forgotten about now.

As for 2018 being bad??? Not at all, most of those #1s are great tracks.

i was torn between God's Plan and In my feelings, but then i decided the latter is the worst of the two...

I was torn between 3 tracks, Freaky Friday, Funky Friday and We Built This City, I opted for the former instead. Mind you most of the #1s are awful.

Can we now have a poll for the Best #1 oh hang on... hoping S▲nta J (Jack) can do the annual best #1 of the year.

I remember complaining earlier in the year that most of the #1s were shite (with Drake saving it) but it got better as the year went by, that's ended up being a pretty solid list imo. Although ending on a low note as LadBaby is easily the worst on there.

It's tough to rank 'Three Lions' among the rest because it's not exactly something I'd listen to much outside of World Cup season :P but in terms of chart moments that might be my favourite #1 of the year. As for the rest:

1 Nice For What

2 In My Feelings

3 Shallow

4 Funky Friday

5 God's Plan

6 Promises

7 Shotgun

8 One Kiss (originally thought this would be one of my fave #1s of the year but it hasn't held up that well, still quite good tho)

9 Eastside

10 thank u, next

11 I'll Be There

12 Solo

13 Freaky Friday

14 River

15 These Days

16 We Built This City

'Perfect' would go around 7th, I don't really think of that as a 2018 #1 though. The top 6 there are all great, 7-12 are all varying levels of good too, it's only really the last 4 I don't care for (just happened that 3 of those were among the first few #1s of the year).

Need a source on music critics claiming this was a bad year for music... :P

Freaky Friday, no contest.

Freaky Friday 100%. And with three Drake songs on the list that's saying something.

omg i forgot Freaky Friday was a #1 :drama:

Was the thread titled 'Best Number 1 of 2018' to begin with

Out of those I've heard I would say LadBaby, but I've never knowingly heard Funky Friday and don't have a huge desire to change that

Worst year in music mainstream wise since I started following the charts, for definite.

Some very average or worse number 1s.

That could be it  I wasn't too sure.

My ranking (from best to worst):

1. George Ezra - Shotgun

2. Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises

3. Clean Bandit ft. Demi Lovato - Solo

4. Baddiel & Skinner & The Lightning Seeds - Three Lions

5. Eminem ft. Ed Sheeran - River

6. Rudimental ft. Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen - These Days

7. Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss

8. Jess Glynne - I'll Be There

9. Benny Blanco, Khalid & Halsey - Eastside

10. Ariana Grande - thank u, next

11. LadBaby - We Built This City

12. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper - Shallow

13. Drake - Nice for What

14. Lil Dicky ft. Chris Brown - Freaky Friday.

15. Drake - In My Feelings

16. Drake - God's Plan

17. Dave ft. Fredo - Funky Friday

Quite like all of them other than In My Feelings, God's Plan and Funky Friday.

I don’t even know how some of these songs actually go. That’s aging for you.

And I don't regard 3 Lions as #1 of the year when it was originally a re-release on the back of the World Cup, obviously it made #1 this year.

And technically Perfect was the back end of 2017 carried over.

Was a toss-up between River and We Built This City - but the latter does bring a smile to my face even if it's technically awful and I won't be listening to it past this week! Songs like River have been done so many times before (even by Eminem) and it doesn't have any charm to add. The fact it's already forgotten about despite having two massive names on it says it all about the song!

I'm a fan of most the number ones reflecting back on the year - Three Lions making #1 was such a moment and nearly all those songs were deserved the spot as they've shown they have longevity also. I think Shallow or Shotgun would be my favourite of the #1s.

1. One Kiss

2. Nice for what

3. Shotgun

4. Shallow

5. Promises

6. Thank u, next

7. Solo

8. In my feelings

9. I’ll be there

10. These days

11. Funky Friday

12. Gods Plan

13. Eastside

14. Three Lions

15. Perfect

16. We built this city

17. River

18. Freaky Friday

Without a doubt that Ladbaby embarrassment, I don't care that it was for charity either, surely people can just give the money to the charity :drama:
