So.

No to everything then.

Which was always likely. Probably either going to be a General Election now or a 2nd Referendum.

Well, a couple of the options weren't that far off a majority - much closer than May's two votes for her deal.
Surely a General Election? This Parliament cannot and clearly will not agree on anything.

Can't have a general election for a while now though as the Tories would need a new party leader.

I suspect a 2nd Referendum on the deal is highly likely.

The highest positive vote was for a referendum. As the Tories are such keen supporters of First Oast The Post, surely they should now be backing a referendum.

I hope some DJ comes up with a song using John Bercow's 'ORRRRRRRRRRRRDEEEEEEEEEEEER' and 'UNLOCK!' and 'The AYES Have it' as the lyrics

DIVISION!

With this being a two-stage process, does that mean the options will be debated again and then voted on again?

I think it's really promising that the Customs Union option came so close to a majority and the lowest "rejection". The main opposition to preventing this going through is the government itself wanting to avoid a party split in the Tories. It's important to remember the Cabinet abstained on that too.

We'll see what happens on Monday. It would be useful to have MV3 on Friday (and fail again) with a plan B vote on two options of either adding a Customs Union or approving her deal subject to a public vote as the two alternative options. I think it's highly likely one of those two alternatives could pass as a plan B in the event of MV3 being rejected and the government being forced to back one of the two.

Ultimately, I think a genuine path has opened to clear through the impasse. It will all come down to whether the government will be willing to put the country ahead of the consequences of their party and plump for one of the two most popular alternatives.

I don't see how the Tories get out of this right now unless they really do put their brand first. There is literally no-one in the Party who could galvanize both sides of the party.

I respect your opinion and understand for voting Brexit, but you’re basically just confirming what everyone already knows - the majority of people that voted for Leave had no clue what they were voting for. And they definitely were not voting for No Deal. There is a reason why this was not presented as an option during the referendum. It’s suicidial.

I was merely suggesting that most people had made up their minds long before the referendum campaign - what is wrong with that?

I hate to tell you this, but only a very small proportion of voters actually took any notice of the campaign, other than the bits we were beaten over the head with ; the £350m NHS, Farage's infamous poster, and the Jo Cox murder.

I hate to tell you this but you don't have the gift of telepathy and the time to read the minds of 17 million people. I KNOW for a fact from talking to Brexiters that they didnt all vote for the same reason, loads of them voted for the daftest of reasons while also believing that the Moon landings were faked based on no sense of reality whatsoever.

Sorry if you felt the assassination of an MP was "beating you over the head" with propaganda. I'm sure she organised her own murder just to annoy Brexiters and her son is well pleased that it was all worth it. If it had been Farage murdered I'm sure you would have wished the papers not report his funeral, and not waste too much about him getting murdered.

People WERE influenced however by the NHS lies and the fear-inducing Hitler-style poster. They have said so to me, all we can argue about is HOW MANY were influenced, and neither of us has telepathy.

A quick referendum would sort that out for sure. I'm game. Are you?

PS the numbers of people saying they voted Leave in 2016 is somehow mysteriously down to around 34% of all voters from 42% in 2016. They can't ALL have died......

I never used such a emotive term as 'propaganda'.

I have repeated, over & over again, that I wouldn't mind another vote, yet no-one here seems to hear me!

As to whether it would settle anything though, well that's another matter...

OT : going into hospital for a 'procedure' tomorrow - hopefully just an o/n thing. :???:

Here's how they voted then:

Customs Union more popular than May's deal is quite interesting - suspect that may command a majority were that combined with confirmatory referendum. E.g. WA passes with political declaration changed to include a permanent CU and this then put back to the British people.

I'm sad that the SNP abstained on some of the more sensible / pragmatic softer Brexit options but OH DAMN at TIG voting against everything. Different kind of politics and compromise... yeah.

Another vote tomorrow and Bercow's allowing it. The DUP are said to be heading home tonight though and not bothering to stay for it so they won't be there to vote. Does that mean they've abstained and it may pass?

Parliament will vote on the WA only but not the political declaration. That's the difference and why Bercow has allowed it. It'll still lose though as Labour are being whipped against it. The ERG may vote for it but the DUP still won't.

Best of luck, hope it goes well, hopefully just a routine procedure and you'll be home pretty quickly!

A man and a woman have been arrested for sending a Tweet to Anna Soubry and other MP's saying "Remember Jo Cox".
