Posted June 13, 20196 yr GLQ0biK-ZgA Dsh0TfIKhoE It's 20 years since the chart battle of S Club 7's 'Bring It All Back' and Madonna's 'Beautiful Stranger'. S Club 7 had been created by Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller and had been starring in their own successful television show Miami 7. The theme song, 'Bring It All Back', was released as their debut single. 'Beautiful Stranger' was the lead to the Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me film soundtrack and was Madonna's first single since the highly successful Ray of Light era. 'Bring It All Back' started with a small lead over 'Beautiful Stranger' and extended its lead by quite a margin by the end of the week. It completed the week with sales of over 190k, whilst 'Beautiful Stranger' sold a still impressive amount of 136k (in fact Madonna's second highest first week sales at the time). By the end of 1999, 'Bring It All Back' had sold 624k, placing it as the 11th best seller of the year, whilst 'Beautiful Stranger' had sold 491k (23rd best seller). 20 years on, which is your favourite?

June 13, 20196 yr BS is one of Madonna's best singles and BIAB is one of the worst for S Club so this is not really a battle
June 13, 20196 yr average Madonna still better than the silly S Club 7 BS was ok-ish, nothing spectacular actually none deserved the #1,Shania should have been the #1 that week
June 13, 20196 yr Easily Madonna for me, never particularly liked 'Bring It All Back', preferred their subsequent singles.
June 13, 20196 yr 'Beautiful Stranger' is such a classic for me, although I do like 'Bring It All Back' too.
June 13, 20196 yr Author I like both songs - both very fun, catchy pop that takes me back to childhood. Still, an easy vote to Madonna for me.
June 13, 20196 yr Madonna for me as well. Both songs aren’t really what I’d say are among both artists bests though.
June 13, 20196 yr S club 7 my absolute favourite of theres brings back so many memories of watching Miami 7 after school. Also doodah was an annoying song i loved at the time
June 13, 20196 yr I know pretty much every word to Bring it All Back but couldn't even tell you what Beautiful Stranger sounded like so I think you know where my vote goes.
June 13, 20196 yr Author Does anyone remember the chart battle at the time? Who was favourite to be #1 before the chart week? I had a look at the airplay charts and Madonna was #8 the week before and S Club 7 weren't in the Top 50. From those new entries, I think I've only heard 'All or Nothing' which is fab; very overlooked by 'Believe' and 'Strong Enough' but it's another dance banger.
June 13, 20196 yr S Club 7 for the memories. Madonna’s track is also brilliant. At the time, I wanted Cartoons to hit top 3 as well.
