Debuts at #45 this week in the UK.

A very good debut considering it doesn't include the initial fanbase buys thanks to the Wednesday release!

So they basically robbed themselves of a top 40 thanks to a Wednesday release?

Unlikely would have made much difference... it didn’t debut on Spotify until it was added to playlists on Friday.

It failed to enter on billboard Hot 100 :o

It hasn't been sent to radio. It's for the fans apparantley. It's a shame it didn't get a push to radio though as this sounds so good!

No, it wasn't intended as a single in the first place for whatever reason (despite the Capital FM airplay, but it's not the first time they've played non-singles)

Virgin EMI literally sent a press release to our offices the day before the song came out saying 'please note this is not a single'.

 

(I assume it was originally planned as a full single but Small Talk's performance gave them cold feet, so they decided to chuck it out on a Wednesday and not send it to radio)

The "it's not a single" cries coming as soon as it fails to debut on Hot 100 :rofl: it might not have been but why not mention it earlier and save all the agro of this thread and the past month!? :rofl:

 

To me this wasn't even a grower, the hooks were pretty instant - and i think the 'Hula Ula/ Jeweller ' line is kind of genius (Something very Ariana). I get that it's a totally different vibe that you'd expect from Katy, but I'd actually say of the 3 singles released this would have been the most commercially viable (Yes, even more than NRO - despite me obviously preferring that). This just feels like the most 'current' she's been in a long time. So it's a shame they wasted their time with Small Talk; which I never fully got on board with (neither did many others), because I assume that one's underperformance might have hindered the amount of support this gets so soon afterwards.

 

She looks fantastic in the video too.
