I’ve made no secret recently in the polls of The Fame least fave and singles least fave that I just don’t really stan LoveGame.

Idk why. Even when The Fame album was first released and slaying it was one track I just didn’t really get behind that much.

I was gutted when it was made a single.

I’m always a bit sad it was tbh. Her debut era could’ve been a all UK top ten like scenario yet Love Game and it’s #19 peak ruined that.

It’ll take something truly bad for this to be overtaken as her weakest single for me.

Thankfully it’s on her debut album so shes only really grown since then.

Anyways I’d rate it a 4/10.

I was always under the impression at the time that it didn't perform as well in the UK because the world got it months before but I don't know how much truth there is in that. I guess it's more to do with perhaps being too racy for radio and being promoted less than the other three singles. It definitely felt a lot less big than the others but I always loved it. "I wanna take a ride on your disco stick" will forever be iconic and I'm a fan of the video even if it's less of a moment than the surrounding videos.

I'm going to rate it a 9/10.

A cute 7! I would probably have considered it as a 10 when The Fame album first came out though.

From my perspective, LoveGame felt really burned out by the time it got a full release in the UK.

The music video premiered in March 2009. There wasn't an immediate official YouTube upload for the video, but that was still pretty typical in 2009 - it would have been unofficial fan uploads that were doing the rounds. So although it hadn't properly premiered for the UK market, the music video's exposure on YouTube must have been what helped LoveGame to enter the UK Top 100 for the first time (initially managing: 93-93-[out for 1 week]-96-89-90-[out]).

Despite it showing early signs of doing well, it was confirmed in April that Paparazzi was going to be the third single instead. It was already within the Top 75 by May, in advance of the video premiering in early June. Paparazzi certainly seemed a lot fresher than LoveGame at this point, which I'm sure was due to the relative newness of the Paparazzi video and the immediate strong promotion/airplay it received. I think her UK label made a wise choice to leapfrog LG with Paparazzi... but if there was ever a moment to double down on trying to make LG a Top 10 hit, I think it would have been then. Incidentally LG was in the Top 5 in the US in June.

LG finally started to be properly pushed in the UK in August, with its physical formats coming out at the end of September - 6 months after the initial music video buzz. The physical release week is when LG reached its peak of #19. Honestly, it felt rather stale. I think it's telling that the song fell out of the Top 40 only three weeks later. LG had sold just under 90,000 downloads prior to the physical release week, and The Fame album had sold 737,000. The moment had passed... I'm just glad it actually managed to go Top 20 after such a long build up!

I do wonder if LG would have gone Top 10 if it had been the third single instead, and whether Paparazzi might have still managed Top 10 if it had been kept for August/September!

It has to be said, LoveGame had an impressively long run in the Top 200. Weekly positions and sales:

I used to rate it higher than I do now. I feel like it's 8 on a good day, 7.5 on a bad day.

I really dig this remix:

YES! One of my most played Gaga remixes!

Jade, we're a 10 between us.

I really dislike it - it's completely on the wrong side of pop to my tastes but I can see why some others would like it.

10/10

Used to be an 8, but has grown on me in the last two years and now it's my favorite TF single

THIS!!

I hate it. It was ... okaaaay at first, but I still thought it was a stupid singls. 2/10.

The sacrilege in this thread  10, I've always loved it.

Jay's post is very interesting! I wasn't following the UK chart in 2009, but I knew that the UK skipped ahead to 'Paparazzi', and the reason I heard was that 'LoveGame' was too explicit for radio. I'm not sure I even realised at the time that 'LoveGame' did eventually get released after. So it's never really felt like it 'flopped' in the UK to me, more like it got shafted by circumstances. At least not to as extreme an extent as, say, 'Fergalicious'.
