January 11, 20205 yr I’m surprised Sam Fender’s album wasn’t nominated it was one of the best albums last year
January 11, 20205 yr It's a ridiculous line up tbh! I mean Taylor snubbed for best international female while Camila Cabello gets a nomination but can't even manage top 10 with her album... Ed Sheeran snubbed for best male despite being yet again one of the runaway successes of the year... Mabel getting a nomination for best new act for the second year in a row... Mahlia and FKA Twigs getting nominations while Dido get's snubbed despite having a way more successful album than either... This show becomes more and more of a joke every year.
January 11, 20205 yr I’m really confused by the cut-off for this year (if there even is one)? Harry and Stormzy’s albums have been out for FOUR WEEKS which I don’t feel is long enough to make an impact. Sam Fender definitely should’ve got an album nomination.
January 11, 20205 yr Christ these nominations.... I really doubt I'll bother, Female/Intl Female are the only categories that aren't a mess tbh and even then I expect Freya will win Female when she's by far the weakest of that bunch. It really wouldn't hurt to have some female rep in album, perhaps group too although to be fair idk who they could have nominated  I guess they could stop the needing to release an album to be eligible as it seems that there's less worthy albums being released anyway. For album they easily could have given FKA Twigs or Charli a nom, but Sam Fender not being there is really ridiculous, especially when they give the nod to albums that have just come out. Sam, Charli and FKA had three of the best albums of the year, FKA very critically acclaimed and Sam commercially successful, surely one of those could have got in, instead of just replicated best male in album again. I feel like Lewis Capaldi will sweep tbh
January 11, 20205 yr That awkward moment when ANNE-MARIE has an "Album Of The Year" nomination but these critically acclaimed women don't... I- ----- The cut off point is really bizarre. Wasn't Sam Smith ineligible a couple of years ago because they released an album too late in the year (mid-Nov?) so had to wait until the year after, or was that out of choice? Harry & Stormzy shouldn't have been allowed in this year tbh. I don't mind them in the artist categories (I think the "should have released an album" rule is ridic for those anyway) but I think the AOTY contenders should be Dec-Nov (or Nov-Oct), personally. A mess. Unless they pull in some huge performers for me, I think I'll give it a miss. In fact, I doubt I'll watch anyway and just catch the highlights on YT or whatever.
January 11, 20205 yr The Sam Smith furore was because they weren’t nominated for best male and rumour was they had requested not to be. I guess we can see why now.
January 11, 20205 yr Sam was nominated for male last year but the last album they released was in 2017. Yet Stormzy and Harry are nominated this year despite releasing in December. I don’t get the BRITs awards eligibility tbh. The Grammys is confusing af but at least that has a clear cut off point.
January 11, 20205 yr I don't think we ever had an explanation as to why Sam Smith's The Thrill of It All was kept back a year, it always felt bizarre, but Harry and Stormzy's albums absolutely belong in this year's ceremony because it's celebrating 2019's achievements. The impact both albums had in two weeks was pretty huge, they were two of the biggest and most warmly received albums of the year in two completely different ways. It's also worth mentioning that last year's Best Album winner was The 1975's A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, released 30th November 2018 - later than Sam's album (3rd November 2018), so this is actually keeping in line with 2019's ceremony. I think it's a massive shame that no women got nominated for Album, it feels like a bit of a step backwards and they could easily have made room for at LEAST one. Find it a bit confusing to be dragging down Anne-Marie in the same sentiment though xx
January 11, 20205 yr It feels like women only get nominated if they have a big commercial era like Dua or Anne-Marie, surely the critical acclaim FKA Twigs got with Magdalene should count for something at least?
January 11, 20205 yr It could have something to do with the fact she's American but I'm just guessing here (but also, she was nominated for the one she's eligible for) Edited January 11, 20205 yr by LMLou
January 11, 20205 yr Lana Del Rey's album shits on everyone else's. Why wasn't she nominated.?!It’s The Brit Awards and she’s not British ....
January 11, 20205 yr They actually used to have an international album award didn’t they? I remember Gaga won it with The Fame. I don’t know why they scrapped it. Lana could’ve gotten it had it still existed. Eeek it was actually last awarded in 2011! Edited January 11, 20205 yr by Jordan Lee
January 11, 20205 yr They used to have a quite a few more International Awards - Gaga was actually the most awarded artist at the 2010 Brits
January 15, 20205 yr And Mabel- presumably singing something that isn’t DCMU considering she sung that at the Brits are coming and the statement saying that artists were allowed to perform what they want this year or something?
