December 10, 20196 yr But people still CHOSE to stream her. Or any of those songs mentioned. A lot of the point being made here surrounds the fact that there seems to be a lot to suggest many aren't actively streaming Ellie. We can't prove that though, it just appears that way.
December 10, 20196 yr It seems similar to what happened with Cheerleader, Lean On and Lush Life on Spotify (or what's happened with Dua Lipa's entire career through every possible advertising medium). I mean, if you say so...
December 10, 20196 yr Yes, they're not comparable. Dua Lipa literally had segments dedicated to her on the 6 O'Clock News on BBC One, broadcast to the entire country, when hardly anybody even knew who she was. You're just being a troll now  That's called promotion - literally every single act does it who can get a slot. Whereas Ellie, an established artist, is number one on an Amazon playlist where you ask Alexa to play Christmas music, she is the first track. Literally not even close.
December 10, 20196 yr Also, that signature really needs to shrink, Aly  I didn't even know it was there, because it prompted me to say it couldn't be uploaded when I tried to update my signature.
December 10, 20196 yr I glad tones and I gone arc next week need new number 1 get bit fresh air at top next week
December 10, 20196 yr Very impressive that Tones & I is still by far the best seller just now and won’t see a huge drop when it hits ACR
December 10, 20196 yr Everybody keeps blaming the Alexa thing but without trying it, Everybody that I know that has tried, no one got Ellie as first song and mostly they got Mariah :) I think it's more to do with Amazon heavily supporting it cos it's an exclusive and being in all imaginable playlists, #1 in many of them, including the Xmas ones I think the situation with Ellie and Amazon is not that different from that Brenda Lee song and Spotify that's a song that during the download era nobody bought even when lots of Xmas classics were coming back every year and now it's charting 100% due to Spotify playlists
December 10, 20196 yr But people still CHOSE to stream her. Or any of those songs mentioned. A lot of the point being made here surrounds the fact that there seems to be a lot to suggest many aren't actively streaming Ellie. We can't prove that though, it just appears that way. The same applied to Cheerleader and Lush Life though? They were on an absurd amount of Spotify playlists (for no reason, I suspect someone paid a lot of money for it, or maybe a high level Spotify employee stanned the songs and decided to sneak them into as many playlists as they could), and it's pretty obvious they caught on initially because people were accidentally hearing them due to autoplay, rather than actually choosing to listen to them. Isn't this similar to what's happening with Ellie Goulding's song? In the case of Lean On, whilst it was also on an absurd amount of Spotify playlists, which wasn't reasonably justifiable, at least Diplo and DJ Snake were famous beforehand, so I can understand people being interested to hear a collab between them, but the extent on the playlisting, as if it was a new Ed Sheeran or Justin Bieber song, was still suspicious. Maybe this Ellie Goulding song will catch on and become a genuine hit and still be charting in the top 10 in March, and then you'll mention the suspicious Amazon behaviour surrounding this song to someone in 2024 and some guy will insist that you were just imagining it, but you'll know that wasn't the whole story. The fact of the matter is, the first 1,000,000 people in the UK to ever hear Cheerleader, 90% of them heard it through Spotify (and the other 10% probably heard it via someone who heard it on Spotify), and had it not been on all those playlists (which it appeared on for no apparent reason), it might still be a relatively unknown song today. It's not like the song got popular from Vine or Tik Tok, or from festivals, or from underground raves, it was from Spotify playlists.
December 10, 20196 yr When I ask Alexa to play Christmas music, I don’t get Ellie. In fact I’ve never heard the song since I don’t have amazon music. Now I ask Alexa to play Xmas music via Spotify but the odd occasion I forget to mention Spotify she doesn’t play Ellie.
December 10, 20196 yr I think the situation with Ellie and Amazon is not that different from that Brenda Lee song and Spotify that's a song that during the download era nobody bought even when lots of Xmas classics were coming back every year and now it's charting 100% due to Spotify playlists it re-entered the top 100 in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013 before streaming counted. clearly it's got more popular after streaming thanks in part to Spotify playlisting but it wasn't exactly an obscure song beforehand.
December 10, 20196 yr How has Mariah slipped to number 6? So much f***ery. There's no way she's getting a number 1 this year due to these stupid rules. 😴
December 10, 20196 yr How has Mariah slipped to number 6? So much f***ery. There's no way she's getting a number 1 this year due to these stupid rules. 😴 She was obviously higher on Monday because more people streamed her at the weekend, but not so much on a Monday
December 10, 20196 yr Monday's Spotify & Apple streams are missing - they usually are from a Tuesday update. No mention of Amazon being missing though... Tuesday Top 40 Update Missing Data: Apple, Spotify, YouTube (Monday) ...makes me think the other updates had an extra day of Amazon too. Would explain why the Amazon exclusives are slipping down as their data becomes less dominant.
December 10, 20196 yr As for Mariah slipping to #6, she did 524k on Spotify on Sunday, but divide that by 2 and that's less than the 288k Lewis did.
December 10, 20196 yr Ok so I’ve gradually made the move over to Amazon Music this week and when I ask Alexa to play any sort of Christmas music or playlist I have not had Ellie first at all? She’s only #1 on Christmas Present and you need to specifically state that playlist in order to get her which I doubt everyone is doing. Y’all just need to appreciate that something refreshing from the streaming era has happened with Amazon’s exclusives
December 10, 20196 yr I've just asked Alexa to play Christmas music, I'm five songs in and no sign of Ellie.
