Well that went from looking like a tedious Mercedes 1-2 to a bloody good race real fast

Same again next week with added rain

That was my first Formula One race that I've watched and wow what a race that was! Half of the drivers retiring before the end of the race and Lando Norris snatching a podium place from Lewis Hamilton. I feel sorry for Alex Albon after it looked like he was going to finish the race in the top 3 but then ended up dropping far down the rankings after the incident involving him. Impressive achievement from Bottas to be in the lead all throughout the race without losing it, I would guess that he would be a strong contender to win the drivers championship.

Hopefully the remaining races will be just as entertaining as this!

It's certainly one of the better ones of recent years and a great race for your first one. It used to be a given that half the cars would retire but it's rare these days.

And you can normally expect both the Mecedes to be in first and second for the whole of a large percentage of races. However, if they are gonna have reliability issues this year it could be very interesting.

A shortened season certainly gives Bottas his best chance of a title, particularly with Hamilton appearing to be marginally passed his peak years

Is it worth watching?

NB: Watching on Channel 4 unfortunately don't have Sky or Now TV

That was one chaotic race. A long time since we had so many mechanical failures in a race. Well done Lando Norris on his first podium and full credit to Leclerc getting second place in the Ferrari.

Feel sorry for Albon second time in three races he's had a podium taken away by Hamilton.

Vettel was very poor, what was that move about on Sainz Jr?

Alfa Romeo have been handed a €5,000 fine after Kimi Raikkonen’s right-front wheel came off during the Austrian Grand Prix.

Raikkonen had pitted during a Safety Car period, but he prompted it to return immediately after the re-start when his right-front wheel flew off the C39.

Brazil 2019 : Albon losing a podium because of Hamilton and thanks to that a Mclaren driver is on the podium.

Austria 2020: Albon losing a podium because of Hamilton and thanks to that a McLaren driver is on the podium

I only watched the highlights on the f1 website, and it looked like a thriller!

What's exciting me the most, is that it's genuinely looking like Racing Point and McLaren have penetrated the big 3 teams, so we'll be looking at potentially 5 teams (and maybe the Renaults [if we're lucky]) fighting for podiums and wins...

Also: Mugello, Imola and (in what looks to be a decent track) Portimao are in the running to get a grand prix, so it looks like it could be a very interesting season!

Watched the highlights. Glad for Bottas but expect Hamilton would have won if he hadn’t got the qualifying penalty.

Shocked at how off the pace Ferrari are....

Was gutted for Verstappen - him and Leclerc are the next great champions for me.

And Vettel - wtf was he doing?!

What an absolute BELTER of a season opener that was! Couldn't even keep up with that last 10 laps or so, very reminiscent of Brazil last year even without Hamilton vs. Albon part II. I thought it was gonna be a bit of a damb squib when Verstappen retired but the Merc issues and all those safety cars turned it into an absolute thriller. 11 retirements in a dry race is absolutely unheard of in this era. Latifi SO close to points on his debut with the worst team on the grid.

SO thrilled for Norris, what a drive that race - fastest lap on the final lap too which arguably got him inside the 5s to Lewis to nab that podium. Huge props to Leclerc to dragging that embarrassment of a Ferrari to second. I think Vettel is just counting down the days till retirement now...

Ah come on, one dodgy race and he's past his peak? Last season was his greatest ever imo. Agreed on your first point though, getting the early highground will be a huge incentive as no-one even knows how song the season will be. Everyone is also talking about Max vs Lewis for the title so it wouldn't be completely out of the ordinary for Bottas to dark horse it. But as long as both Mercs have clean races I can't see him keeping up the fight on a consistent enough basis.

I really think he is. It's very slight but for me, 2 years ago he would have taken pole and comfortably beaten Bottas in the race. It's not just one dodgy race either. I've started thinking this since the middle of last season. He's lost a bit of qualifying pace and the occasional mistakes are creeping in - it's the second time in three races that he's caused a collision. He still has the racecraft and wisdom that comes from experience but the sharpness and reflexes start to fade at his age. He's nowhere near Vettel levels of decline but you hear him say he could/should have done better a lot more these days.

It reminds me very much of Schumacher's final seasons with Ferrari - still brilliant but ever so slightly less than before.

So Alonso is returning to Renault again! :o I knew the rumours were raging but wasn't sure if this would actually happen. Well at least we'll get some more entertaining team radio content.

And more importantly, where does this now leave Vettel?!

How Alonso's comeback will be either be an Prost one, Raikkonen one, Mansell one when he signed for McLaren or a Michael Schumacher one.

Ferrari are bringing forward some planned upgrades to their car after a disappointing showing at the season-opening Austrian Grand Prix.

Lead driver Charles Leclerc was runner-up on Sunday, but the car was a second off the pace in qualifying seventh.

At this weekend's Styrian Grand Prix, Ferrari will introduce some of the parts originally scheduled for the subsequent race in Hungary.

Am f***ing buzzing to have nando back where he belongs.

Sooner the better. The traitor can do one early as far as I’m concerned. This whole season is a messy write off, let’s get our two rusty drivers in for this shitty year to regain their sharpness for next year
