A Gasly & Sainz top 2  Really happy with that result.

Hamilton getting back to 7th was pretty good tbh, I wondered if he would get stuck like Bottas seemed to but he managed to get past a few. Plus what an absolutely embarrassing race for Ferrari, with Red Bull fairing pretty embarrassingly also tbh.

As I usually ask without seeing social media or the results of the race or comments of the race before Channel 4's coverage. Is it worth watching the highlights?

just shows Bottas doesn't know how to overtake even with the best car, ridiculous he's got a seat at Mercedes

Gasly showing he deserves to be re-promoted, Albon almost finished last

Yes. Most enjoyable result in years

Seeing as Lewis Hamilton got pole position we can 100% expect him to win today's Grand Prix.

I guess I was wrong..........

What a race that was, it was sheer chaos and it's nice to seeing some different names at the top of the placings. Hopefully there'll be more races like this to come!

Quite agree. Bottas is the Ricardo Patrese of the age. Decent and reliable but there only to grant his team mate a title. There are at least 5 or 6 drivers more deserving. Bottas is probably the only one who can't see that. He said before the race that now is the time for him to start fighting hard! It's halfway through the season. You've already lost the title. The time to start fighting hard was the start of the season.

Gasly has probably matured enough from last year to be re-considered for Red Bull. In Albon's defence, his car was knackered today (admittedly by his own fault) and he's been punted out of well earned podiums by Hamilton twice. If he can sort out his qualifying pace he'll do okay. Bear in mind Max will make any team mate seem poor by comparison.

Blimey, what a race that was. Gasly was flawless throughout that battle. Alpha Tauri winning a race cor. Absolute thriller. Great result for McLaren, second and fourth. Great tribute to George Russell about Claire and Frank Williams. What was Bottas doing he seemed anonymous in that race. I can see the comparisons with Bottas and Patrese. I wonder if Sainz Jr will be rethinking that decision to move to Ferrari. The most enjoyable result for me in years. That Top 2. Shock winner since Maldonado Spain 2012. Or Fisichella Brazil 2003, Vettel Italy 2008 in a Toro Rosso.

Only watched the highlights but seemed like a great race. A shame that Hamilton having some bad luck didn’t do anything for the championship overall, agree that Bottas won’t ever challenge on a consistent basis, would love someone else in that car.

I did think Gasly was harshly dropped at Red Bull, thrown in too early, and I think probably the same with Albon and he’d have been better off in the Torro Rosso a bit longer.

Just watched the highlights (full race with very rarely keep me watching the whole way through). Wow!

Really wanted a McLaren victory (Norris would have been ideal, But Sainz would have deserved this race), can't grumble at a Gasly win! He's putting in a good argument for a Red Bull seat yes. But I feel his style is more akin to Prost than Senna (calculated, over cut throat), which might be why Albon appears more promising. I don't think there'd be any reservations swapping the back now. Either way, it's pretty clear Kvyat is the only Red Bull group driving in danger of losing a seat [again].

Just glad there seems to be alot more variety on the podium than we've been used to for the last few seasons!

was reading no the Italian papers and they're very tough on Bottas and also a bit on Hamilton

they give Sanz a perfect score of 10, a 9 to Gasly, saying he drove well but was extremely lucky, a 5 to Stroll

but then a 2 to Ferrari, saying it's sad to see them fighting for last place with Williams

a 1 to Hamilton, they made a mistake with the red light and they should have accepted it instead of taking the scooter and go complaining

and a 0 to Bottas, his worst start of a race ever, passed by everybody, and worst, during the race he never even tried one advance, not even one...

WHAT DID I EVEN WATCH?!

That's the sort of result I would never ever have seen coming in the current era, especially in a dry race. What a incredible set of circumstances for everything to fall into place & give us a modern CLASSIC

The penalty eh... I was surprised they didn't just pull the Haas car back through the gap in the fence. And as for the pit lane being closed during a safety car, I thought that rule was dropped many seasons ago back when refuelling occurring as cars were having to pit or else run out of fuel. So I completely understand why Merc were caught out by that but I'm totally not complaining :D Not as if Hamilton even suffered in the "title race" as Max & Bottas couldn't capitalise.

Amazing for Gasly, truly unbelievable the results he's had since being demoted. Honestly if I were him I'd stay well away from Red Bull even if they invite him back as he'll just be Max's bitch again. Not sure what happened to Albon again, plum last if it weren't for Gio's penalty. Also the top 3 all only had 1 podium each before today now they've gotten their second one altogether.

Penny for Sainz's thoughts. Leaving a Mclaren team now capable of challenging for podiums on merit for the absolute circus that is Ferrari...

Formula 1 will revive plans to introduce reverse-grid sprint races in place of qualifying.

Mercedes blocked plans to trial the idea this season - but Sunday's Italian Grand Prix has given F1 fresh impetus.

Two safety cars, a penalty for Lewis Hamilton and a race stoppage at Monza mixed up the field and led to a shock win for Alpha Tauri's Pierre Gasly.

F1 managing director Ross Brawn said: "The race showed the excitement a mixed-up pack can deliver."

From what I’ve read the gap in the barrier wasn’t large enough to get the Haas through the gap.

And the Pit Lane was then closed so they could push the stricken Haas into the pit lane through the live lane - bit risky if it’s live and they’ve got cars flying out the parabolica at them

Says a lot that the only race worth watching this year involved a Penalty for Hamilton that demoted him to last by 20 seconds and Bottas got bogged down in traffic without a magic go faster button. (After all we have known for years that the Merc is woeful when stuck in traffic it hasn’t a massive speed advantage over)

I guess that's essentially confirmation of a Vettel/Stroll 2021 pairing.
That’d be my guess too. Hope Perez got a healthy payoff. I’m no fan of Perez but he’s far more deserving of that seat than Stroll ever will be

I would have agreed there previously but Stroll has impressed this season and outperformed Perez. He's also got more years on the clock.

The question will be will Vettel rediscover his old form or continue his downward spiral.

I never quite get the Stroll hate from pretty much everyone.

I don't think he's close to the worst on the grid: in fact, I rate him higher than Valterrified-of-aggression Bottas and Grosjean, both of which have more experience... Fair enough, he has the advantage of his Dad's finances, but he had to be decent to get a superlicense and win the F3 championship in 2016... Plus he's always been brilliant on the first lap!

A shame for Perez but hardly unexpected. Last week I was reading he was highly touted to sit alongside Hulkenberg at Alfa Romeo next year, which actually looks a good pairing.

As for Lance Stroll, I have to admit he is much improved this year and no longer looks out of his depth among the current crop. He may be far from the best on the grid but he's definitely not the worst, although he remains in a group of drivers I don't think should be in F1 over others.

The bottom line remains Perez deserved that seat more than Lance (and arguably Vettel) and with Racing Points statement praising Sergio highly without once giving a reason for letting him go, tells you everything about their decision.
