Like Dua Lipa was only doing ok with single releases up until New Rules was released but since then she is scoring bigger hits and is a bigger name. Also Calvin Harris was a fairly big name in in the UK but after We Found Love was released he became a big name worldwide and had bigger chart success.

A clear example is the Dido sample on Eminem’s Stan. No one noticed her at all and then all of sudden she had two of the biggest albums of the century.

His solo career was definitely struggling to get going before Angels. I went to see him on his first solo tour at the Southampton Guildhall, a month or two before Angels was released. I only bought my ticket a few days before the gig and it was still well short of a sell-out on the day.

Celine Dion - Think twice catapulted her career in the 90s.

She had 2 top tens before that though.

Suprised noone mentioned Rihanna -umbrella yet sure she had 3 top 2s before but its Umbrella that kicked her stratospheric

Mabel - Dont call me up. She had a few hits before this but this definitely elevated her career and made more people aware of who she is.
