Posted February 5, 20205 yr New single out today from Christine and the Queens titled "People, I've been sad" - hopefully from a new album! hGirXOIssqI
February 5, 20205 yr Just listened to it - I wasn't keen on the opening verse but it improves from then on in. I also think she shouldn't sing in English, it's never as good as when she sings in her own language
February 5, 20205 yr Author I thought releasing them in both languages for the last album's singles was a good idea.
February 5, 20205 yr I never listen to her English versions, her English accent is weird and I cannot figure out what she sings and then you check the English lyrics they don't make sense and are not as good as in French
February 5, 20205 yr Quite liked this on first listen, looking forward to a French version though, as per many of you already. I listened to "Chris" in French whenever I listened to it, so much better for me. Hearing the songs in English on Radio 1 sounded wrong!
February 6, 20205 yr  adore this The opening seconds sound so much like something from Pang! I loved the idea of having French and English versions of the whole album for Chris, I love her singing in either though so I don’t really mind where she takes it. Really like her using both languages in this, it flows so well.
February 7, 20205 yr this is absolutely stunning  i'm a basic who prefers her singing in english (although I do have both versions of Chris in my library!!). I know half of it doesn't make sense but a lot of the lyrics do actually reach out to me (some of them are incredibly beautiful) and are one of the main reasons why I'm a fan. The music therefore doesn't translate in the same way for me when it's in French.
February 8, 20205 yr Just listened to it - I wasn't keen on the opening verse but it improves from then on in. I also think she shouldn't sing in English, it's never as good as when she sings in her own language  I agree with this - the lyrics in the opening verse seem... poorly translated? Which is a little distracting. The song really springs to life when she starts singing in French, it sounds so much better and this is coming from someone who usually doesn't think French sounds like a particularly aesthetically pleasing language! I get that she probably sings in English to reach a wider audience etc. but I much prefer her sticking to the French. Dodgy lyrics aside this is a wonderful song though, the production + melody (particularly with the backing vocals) more than make up for that little annoyance (and in fairness the English lyrics beyond that first verse are a lot better). <3
February 8, 20205 yr I saw an interview in which she explained how she does the English versions and it's pretty weird For her, it's like writing a new song, it's the same chords and melody but the topic of the song and the words are completely new and unrelated to the French version so it's not even a loose translation
February 10, 20205 yr This is absolutely wonderful. I have always enjoyed her English lyrics — there is usually something endearing about a non-native speaker writing in a different language. 'Gone' was uniquely Chris as well.
February 11, 20205 yr Quite liked this on first listen, looking forward to a French version though, as per many of you already. I listened to "Chris" in French whenever I listened to it, so much better for me. Hearing the songs in English on Radio 1 sounded wrong! On the last listen I realised part of the song was actually in French after all  But it should ALL be! That said it fits the English just as well this time. Songs like "5 Dollars" and "The Walker" lost their charm in English I felt.
February 25, 20205 yr Author 'La vita nuova' is releasing on Thursday at 19:30 - I wonder if this is leading up to an album/EP? @1232388720294350848
February 26, 20205 yr FYI, "La vita nuova" features Caroline Polachek. Oh, wow. I'm prepared to ascend. Hoping this is leading into an album.
