that as a result of tests of those infected with #Covid19 we now know that the main "seeding" of the epidemic in UK was as a result of people coming to the UK or returning to the UK from Italy and Spain in UK in early March. Which begs...

question why we didn't have a policy of quarantining those returning from countries where there were significant outbreaks, as did happen in other nations

not to mention letting Care Homes carry on as if nothing was happening. Totally guilty. Deaths on their heads. No amount of PR can hide the death totals in any country which has annual average death totals compiled from official publicly-available records.

They’re still letting people into the country. Either test them or don’t let them in
There's got to be some irony that Britain - the country of Brexit and becoming a self-contained island, and with a population strongly opposed tp immigration - is the ONE country in all of Europe that hasn't closed its borders & isn't treating foreigners with suspicion or as possible disease carriers.
Dat maakt me verdrietig :(

Misschien moeten we in het Nerderlands spreken (Niederländisch ist einfach betrunken deutsch ;) :P )

Seriously tho, your presence in this thread as a scientist with relevant knowledge and experience would be really greatly missed

My German is good enough to give this a

Loads of countries still have flights operating though, you need them for essential travel and for cargo. It shouldn't even be foreigners that get treated differently, it should be everyone especially when coming from overseas and not domestically between the UK. This is one big area the government massively were way too late to the party with and still continue to be. But I'm also of the view that this should have been done earlier and doing it now won't really make a massive difference, there are bigger logistical problems we have.

Completely bonkers. They did, of course put groups of people returning from China in quarantine. In the event, none of them ever tested positive but it was the sensible thing to do. Failing to do the same with people entering from Spain or Italy (even extending to allow thousands of football fans from a city - Madrid - which was in lockdown) has to be something close to criminal negligence.

Even more ironic that he is telling an actual doctor and medical expert to do this!

It is difficult I admit again I'm sorry for my comment the other day. Just to ask if someone didn't have a smartphone for the NHS Covid-19 contact-tracing app would the alternative be? Sorry if this is a daft question.

There is no alternative, without a smartphone you can’t run an application. This is partly why they say they need a really high penetration rate for it to succeed and provide an accurate picture.

I believe the number of non-smartphone users is fairly low though these days

All right thanks. Just asking for somebody.

I don't have a Smartphone and am not buying one just for this. Mine's an old Nokia Pay and Go and doesn't even have a camera!

Germany is handing back over to the individual states. The stepping down of the federal government is a big win. There’s talk of summer holidays (strictly within select European destinations) happening and an effective return to normal provided that infections stay below a rate of 50 new infections per 100.000 of the population per week. Any city/district/state that breeches the limit will go back under restrictions

France - a highly centralised country - is coming out of lockdown according to where the virus is circulating the least and where hospitals have the most space capacity, but apparently internal borders are confusing to Tories and in Britain everything must be done at once.

The government are also assuming we are too stupid to find out which areas are the worst hit. There will be people demanding to know why they are still in lockdown when they are hundreds of miles away from the nearest hot-spot. Of course there are issues surrounding regional differences. Some people, for example, will live in one region but do most of their shopping in another but the numbers involved will be low and a degree of common sense can be applied.

The UK is the most centralised democracy in Europe and this government clearly wants it to stay that way.

Belgium is loosening restrictions even further thos sinday

- All stores reopen

- Mouthnose covering is advised

- Up to 4 people gatherings instead of just 2

- Mouthnose covering obligatory in public transport

I can finally see my guy again

From PM question time:

He also confirmed that he would be setting out plans to begin lifting the coronavirus lockdown on Sunday, adding that he hoped to "get going on some of these measures on Monday".

Very conflicting to the message Sturgeon gave yesterday there would be no easing of anything until the end of May.

Likewise in Germany proposed new restrictions from earlier have been agreed

Bundesliga allowed to return from mid-May but on a behind closed doors basis.

A lot of continental Europe is taking big steps back towards normality. I think even the borders between BE/NL and DE are opening again on Monday.

Looking forward to eating in a restaurant again

Sturgeon confirmed today Scotland has extended for three more weeks.

The conflict is because one is an incompetent dipshit with the clarity of the Thames and the other is Nicola Sturgeon.
