From a bystander point of view, you have the most aggressive tone around here repeating the same thing all over and trying to justify the fact you're not going to abide by the rules anymore if they don't end this lockdown soon. Like Silas said, you do you so if you think reporting people for having a different opinion and challenging yours (even though Tim was just asking for elaboration) is a fair option then go for it.

It is frustrating there's no clear message but just because the lockdown is slowly getting lifted in some countries doesn't mean it's all over. It's far from over and there are only two outcomes that will make everything return back to normal: 1. people will collectively agree to getting infected and let vulnerable people die or 2. we find a vaccine. I'm willing to sit at home locked up until the vaccine is found, be it a few weeks or months or a year. Everything can be adapted to honestly.

You may be happy to sit at home for a year I assume you are financially secure as many would not be able to feed themselves if that was the case.

And reports were made due to the swearing by one of the users thankfully I have a good enough vocabulary that I don’t have to swear at people.

I'm certainly not happy having my life halted — especially as a self-employed person in an industry that fell off the map in March. However, I understand that we all need to act smart now for long term success. People breaking the rules are just going to contribute towards a higher death toll and a longer recovery time.

The reason why the UK has the highest European death toll is because people in the UK aren’t taking it seriously. Some are going out galavanting for the fun of it and the police force is a bit soft here too. In countries like Spain and Italy, they’re taking it more seriously and they have a tougher police force. No way would police in those two countries tolerate people going out galavanting for the fun of it. They also closed their beaches whereas people in the UK are having gatherings in their homes which involve loads of people

There will be no long term if the world stays inside for a year waiting for a vaccine that never comes.

But we’re not going to spend the next year solely inside — restrictions are going to be eased slowly. Sure, it’s not going to be the same as before until there’s a vaccine, but the lockdown will loosen and change — unless we act too quickly, or people break the rules and act selfishly.

That is not happening in any country that had lockdowns enforced

I read that the virus mutates slowly. It would need a big mutation for a vaccin to not work. Like with the flu, they give you the past 4 years or so which protects you quite a lot already. So with this one, it might take a while for 80% protection as you'd need various strains.

I am not 100% up to date woth the facts either but the flu mutates faster apparantly and that has a worldwide vaccin as well

Thanks Tim!! That’s quite reassuring to read

Well, there we are.

Quite scary really. I know that the population is higher than in Spain and Italy but the reality is that this is a damning failure on behalf of the government. I really hope there is an independent judicial inquiry after this. So many moves the gov could have made earlier. Also firmly believe that the devolved administrations should have acted sooner and ahead of the UK gov on this instead of trying to stay in lockstep across the island.

A 2015 study published in the journal “Language Sciences” found that in fact the opposite is true. It found that a strong fluency in the use of curse words was positively correlated with other measures of verbal fluency.

That’s a bit dramatic given you know very well we won’t stay inside for a year. Boris is speaking on Sunday. Whatever he says, there will be some sort of plan on the making (even if it’s a crap one). What people are saying is that they’re happy to remain inside for as long as we’re told to in order to ensure safety for everyone. If that’s not good enough for you, just break the lockdown and do what you want, take your chances. It’s quite clear you’re not going to get approval from most people in this thread so stop seeking it and just get on with it. If you’re not going to take action, then stop moaning about it and continue do your best to help save lives.

Exactly this! There’s a wealth of examples to follow including from across Europe. Smart easing to keep a low R0 value and then heavy monitoring to keep that value below 1 and the outbreak manageable.

I really don’t mind this new normal. I would like to see family and friends again, but as long as I can get home at Christmas then I can survive on my own until then.

The Scottish Government are probably the best part of the UK for giving the public information at the moment. A lot of papers published and things handled in a transparent and adult way.

This mini thread by a Sky News journo with some key take aways from a recent Gov.Scot publication is well worth a read. Reminds me of the presser Merkel gave about the impacts on the healthcare system of an R0 of 1, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3.

Condebola was the one who posted about staying inside until a vaccine not me.

Did I say it was, my comment was in regards to Condebolas comment why don’t you read the thread properly before replying to something I say and taking it out of context.

I love discussing facts with y'all but I am done lmao

I'm not about to get taunted by someone only to be portrayed as the rude and condescending one 20 minutes later

Dat maakt me verdrietig :(

Misschien moeten we in het Nerderlands spreken (Niederländisch ist einfach betrunken deutsch ;) :P )

Seriously tho, your presence in this thread as a scientist with relevant knowledge and experience would be really greatly missed

He spoke about his own personal perspective that he himself was happy to stay inside for however long it takes, not that the world will be required to do the same.

Lmao I just love the science part of this too much, which is why it makes me so sad that I had to quit my biology uni experience. This whole virus has me so intrigued that I just want to read about it all damn day and neglect my other coursework :cheeseblock:

So this is perhaps how there are still a few thousand new cases every day in the UK despite lockdown. I thought it was just key workers mostly getting it and some people obeying the rules being very unlucky and catching it at the supermarket on their one weekly shop.

Lots of workplaces have carried on as normal, public transport has carried on (albeit reduced), and yes people have ignored advice, especially younger people - you see them out on walks or bike rides in places you dont get police cars, obviously not from the same family. The more sensible teens sit on opposite sides of quiet roads so they can chat without getting close......

I guess at some point all those taking part in the above and not taking precautions are going to get it, so those of us still bothered about it will carry on self-isolating until the figures on new cases drop to nothing much, and that might be quite some time.

To be clear - just to close the book on it, when I've talked about communications in this thread its been from the perspective of a risk manager, not from my own perspective. If I was in charge of government comms I would be ENSURING they were clear-cut so that there would be no way to misunderstand them, and I don't believe that the UK gov's comms have been so.

I wasn't at any point claiming that *I* couldn't understand or was confused - which I think certain users may have been responding as if I was saying.

Anyway here's a good article: https://www.smh.com.au/world/europe/biggest...428-p54o2d.html
