Some Gurls is amazin, one of the best most ikonek summer tracks and videos ever.

Albu awful though

I find it hard to believe this album's a decade old now, I can remember rushing down to my local HMV on Tuesday the week of its release when I had a half day from sixth form to get the DVD edition with her videos on it (I think I got CD2 of 'I Said Never Again' whilst I was there too, as it wasn't in stock on release week. And now we know why it only reached #12  ).

True to form I had it on again a few months ago and it's just a flawless pop record from start to end. It was just ahead of its time sound wise - I heard so much of the same kind of quirky, slightly left of centre production in Little Boots or La Roux's debut albums in 2009 that I heard in this album. And not to mention it was also released at a time when Rachel was suddenly dismissed at every turn by everyone (i.e tabloids) for the lazy excuse of 'being boring'.

And in my opinion it is a lazy excuse. You've got to bear in mind Rachel was in a group with six other strong personalities for five years, and S Club was such a phenomenon that it's only once you step outside of that and do it on your own that you realise how abnormal that kind of success they had is for any artist. When the onus is suddenly on you to be the life and soul of the party all by yourself it's little wonder she felt under pressure or in fear of 'saying the right thing'.

I remember very clearly that interview she did on 'Popworld' around 'Some Girls' coming out and Simon Amstell giving her grief about it years later on 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks' saying that she was some boring Simon Fuller controlled fembot.

I always liked Rachel Steven's solo stuff and it was such a shame she never made another album after this, I remember seeing her on Strictly Come Dancing a few years ago and was hoping that she was gonna make a Alesha Dixon style comeback, but that never happened why...

Plus she was around when single sales were at an all time low and was surprised to see how poorly her singles sold, only "Sweet Dreams" sold over 200,000k, which was a shock because I remember at the time everyone was going mad for it and it was all over the radio and music channels and it hit #2 and spent a couple of weeks in the top 10 if I remember correctly. Also "Some Girls" was another that seemed to everywhere also and again loved that also, but again the low sales era and it only sold something like 135k, which is ridiculous. They should have added download sales earlier than they did, coz I reckon both those songs would have doubled in sales.

I never listened to her 2nd album, but have been hearing good things about it for years now, I only know the singles which were great love both "Negotiate With Love" and "So Good", although weren't that keen on "I Said Never Again", but it's decent enough and also heard "Nothing Good About This Goodbye" was gonna be the next single and actually loved that song and it should have been given a chance like a make or break type song.

But anyway always loved Rachel Stevens, very underrated and had such great potential that was never fully given a chance.

This album still slays my life. By FAR the best thing to come out of S Club 7.
I've not heard this album in AGES but I preferred Funky Dory back then, never really saw the fuss over this eeek. Absolutely must give it a relisten soon though as a lot's changed since then.

It's such a consistent album and still sounds so fresh today! Rachel was ahead of her time :(

Writing for BBC Music, Talia Kraines wrote that it was "Bold, swaggering and accomplished...Quite simply, it's the pop album of the year." The Guardian, while two years later lauding the album as an ignored classic, at the time said that it "deserves to be a hit. It is packed with brilliant, cutting-edge pop music". In 2007 they said that its lack of success was "the public's loss". Many reviews commented that the album was a big improvement on her debut, including Londonist who added that it was "a brilliant collection of sophisticated dancefloor songs and quite frankly, one of the most stunning albums of the year." As a summing up, the BBC music review concluded: "Come and Get It is quite simply a pop tour-de-force that deserves to sell a billion copies. Please, don't let this end up as a forgotten classic."
I listened to this album. It had songs and music :gaycat:

i feel like we are in for such a journey of discovery throughout this

I agree

It's really upsetting that this masterpiece sold less copies than Christmas choir boys. Why did people not believe in or like Rachel's music?

I really enjoyed Nothing Good About This Goodbye back in the day and couldn’t believe it wasn’t a single.

Still a pretty solid track.

I'd say most of the songs on the album could've been singles

Any song can be a single

Whether it’s worth spending money pushing one is a different question

Dumb Dumb was a cracking song too
