Of course, that was the point: Since picking up the microphone in 2014, the Charlotte rapper (born Jonathan Lyndale Kirk in 1991) has demonstrated a keen awareness of how to cultivate presence in the internet era, coupling his bounciest tracks (“Suge,” “Walker Texas Ranger,” “Goin Baby,” “Baby Sitter”) with outrageous videos, crafting a persona by turns rude, violent, goofy, and dead serious. (His energy—he often sounds like he literally can’t wait to get on a track—can be so charismatic and infectious that you forget he’s rapping about how he’s prepared to mow down everyone in his way.) After a string of mixtapes, including eight released in 2017 and 2018 alone, he signed with Interscope in early 2019, releasing his first studio album, Baby on Baby, within a few months. - iTunes Top 100 Chart History DaBaby 2019 97 INTRO -1- 2019 66 BOP -2- 2019 13 My Oh My (Camila Cabello feat. April 24, 20206 yr 28 | 22 | 4th week PARTYNEXTDOOR and Rihanna BELIEVE IT 4th single from PARTYMOBILE Released: 27th March 2020 Label: OVO Sound / Warner Records Chart Statistics NE (09/04/2020) | 12-17-22-28 Sales: 60k+ Certification: - Status: Standard Chart Ratio 46 Sales 18 Audio Streaming 32 Video Streaming Video au9tM6EwNjg Biography PARTYNEXTDOOR The persona of producer and singer Jahron Brathwaite, PartyNextDoor finds the Toronto-based artist experimenting with a fractured blend of minimal hip-hop and R&B that has drawn natural comparisons to fellow Canadians Drake and the Weeknd. No stranger to featured appearances himself, Brathwaite has lent his vocals, songwriting, and studio skills to a handful of Drake cuts, as well as ones by the likes of Big Sean, Lil Yachty, and Rihanna (most notably "Work"). The first artist signed to Drake's Warner Bros.-supported OVO Sound label, Brathwaite made his self-titled debut on the label in July 2013. A low-key release with Drake featured on one cut, it reached number 34 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. A sequel, PartyNextDoor Two, followed in July 2014 with a greater promotional push. It topped the R&B/hip-hop chart and crossed into the Billboard 200 at number 19, aided by "Recognize," on which Drake once again provided an assist. PNDColours, a four-track EP, followed in December 2014. A little less than two years later, "Come and See Me," yet another Drake-enhanced track, became Brathwaite's first single to crack the Hot 100. The achievement immediately preceded the August 2016 release of his third album, titled PartyNextDoor 3 (which one might mistake as "PX3," due to its artwork). The following June, after he had co-written DJ Khaled's "Shining," appeared on Drake's More Life, and was featured on ZAYN's "Still Got Time," he issued the Colours 2 EP. The Majid Jordan collaboration "One I Want" arrived later that month. - iTunes Rihanna Beginning with her first hit, 2005's "Pon de Replay," Rihanna was fast-tracked to becoming one of the most popular, acclaimed, and dynamic artists in postmillennial contemporary music. Mixing and matching pop, dancehall, R&B, EDM, and adult contemporary material, she has been a near-constant presence in the upper reaches of the pop chart. She has headlined 11 number one hits, some of which -- "Umbrella" and "Only Girl (In the World)" among them -- led to her eight Grammy Awards. And more than just a singles artist, Rihanna has continually pushed ahead stylistically with her LPs, all of which have confounded expectations and placed within the Top Ten of the Billboard 200. - iTunes Top 100 Chart History PARTYNEXTDOOR 2015 53 Preach (Drake feat. In fact, Jones (born Timucin Aluo in 1987) was a cowriter and producer on the song, whose No. 1 position marked his auspicious debut. Raised in London by a Turkish father, a Malaysian mother and a Nigerian stepfather, Jones grew up on a mix of American hip-hop, UK dance and African music, which might help to explain the mix of styles that swirls through his music: His youthful fondness for Prince shows through in funk-infused cuts like 2015’s “Ocean Drive”, while Afro-Caribbean accents bubble up in 2018’s “Ring Ring,” a lilting tropical-house jam. Though his beats generally follow the punchy cadence of deep-diving future house, he brings a hip-hop producer’s collage sensibility to the mixing desk: Many of his productions slyly interpolate other songs. “You Don’t Know Me”, from 2017, is built around the slinky hook of M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade’s 2005 anthem “Body Language”, while “I Got U” contains a choice bit of Whitney Houston’s “My Love Is Your Love”. Whether on his own productions or his remixes for Ellie Goulding, Charlie XCX and Missy Elliott, Jones’ habitual blend of pop polish and house groove is unmistakable. In conversation with Beats 1’s Julie Adenuga, he spoke about his unique relationship to dance music. “I just thought I'd try it,” he said. “House is a collage of everything the creator is. If you love hip-hop, you can chuck that in there. If you love rock, you can chuck that in there too. It took a long time, but now it makes a lot of sense. It’s sample-based and also musical, so it's a very natural fit. Life is beautiful like that. They say you have to, like, get rid of yourself to go to the next level. And I think that’s what happened.” - iTunes Martin Solveig Though he grew up singing in the church choir and studying classical music, by age 13 French DJ Martin Solveig (born Martin Picandet) had his first pair of turntables and was showing off his skills to his friends. At 18, while working in a local record store, he further discovered the complexity of electronic music, and shortly thereafter was spinning at some of the most prestigious clubs in Paris. In 2001, Solveig worked with Bob Sinclar on Africanism, contributing his track "Edony" to the album. The single went on to be a hit, and after graduating from college, the DJ decided to release a full-length record. Sur la Terre -- which came out in 2002 on his own label, Mixture, and was made using both live and electronic instrumentation -- was also inspired by African rhythms, leading to a remix of Malian singer Salif Keita's song "Malan." In 2004 Solveig decided to move toward American funk and rock, releasing "Rocking Music," sung by Jay Sebag, followed by another full-length, Hedonist, in 2005. A third album, C'est la Vie, was issued in 2008, but it was only with his fourth effort, 2011's aptly titled Smash, that he finally broke through into the mainstream. Home to a number of singles featuring Dragonette, Smash included Solveig's chart-topping hit song "Hello" with the Canadian band, the success of which attracted the interest of Madonna. The singer chose him to work on her album MDNA, and the pair developed a mutual respect and a close working relationship in the studio. Post-MDNA, Solveig continued collaborating, releasing The Night Out EP in 2012; the 2013 single "Hey Now" with the Cataracs, and "Blow" featuring Laidback Luke in 2014. In 2015, Solveig returned with "Intoxicated" with the production duo GTA, as well as the house music-infused "+1," with vocals by Sam White. "Do It Right" with Tkay Maidza and "Places" with Ina Wroldsen arrived the next year, with the Alma-featuring "All Stars" landing in 2017. - iTunes RAYE Croyden, South London-based R&B singer Rachel Keen (aka RAYE) started her career at the age of ten, guided by her father and her guitar teacher. Her interest in music quickly led to small charity gigs and bouts of singing at her local church. By 2012, RAYE had enrolled in the prestigious BRIT school for music and singing, spending two years perfecting her craft, but she left in 2014 due to the limitations she was being taught and the desire to create her own rules. The following year, RAYE released her debut EP, Welcome to the Winter. The lead single, "Hotbox," was noticed by Olly Alexander (Years & Years) on Hype Machine; he got in touch with RAYE to discuss music, and arranged a meeting with the A&R department at Polydor. With major-label backing, RAYE kept busy in 2016, including co-writing her single "I, U, US" alongside Charli XCX, appearing as a guest vocalist on Jonas Blue's "By Your Side" single, and releasing the SECOND EP. She was back working with Charli XCX the following year, guesting on the singer's tracks "Girls" and "Dreamer." RAYE also delivered her own single, "The Line." The singles "Check" (with Kojo Funds) and "Cigarette" (with Mabel and Stefflon Don) were released in 2018. - iTunes Top 100 Chart History Jax Jones 2014 01 I Got U (Duke Dumont feat.
