2015 was a truly horrid year for chart music. I can't think of one redeeming quality about it.

Afternoon all :hi: got the day off work today so I'm able to listen to this live again ^_^

Retro top 3s:

2019

01. Billie Eilish - bad guy

02. Lil Nas X - Old Town Road

03. Taylor Swift - ME! (feat. Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco)

It was hard to choose between 'ME!' and 'Vossi Bop' for that final spot but Taylor just about took it. I was way more into 'ME!' a year ago, but still do appreciate its joyful colourful presence, especially the video. She'd top it over and over elsewhere on the 'Lover' album though!

2015

01. Major Lazer - Lean On (feat. DJ Snake & MØ)

02. Alesso - Cool (feat. Roy English)

03. Nick Jonas - Jealous

Oh wow I haven't thought about that Alesso song in a while! A smooth sample of 'Get Outta My Way' right there. 'Jealous' has held up pretty well for me too, although I think 'Close' with Tove Lo is my favourite thing he did solo. 5 years since Carly last had a hit :o

2010

01. Roll Deep - Good Times

02. Kelis - Acapella

03. Diana Vickers - Once

Omg I was obsessed with 'Good Times' at the time and still absolutely love it, even if it is formulaic 2010 pop/rap trash, SO euphoric

2005

01. Elvis vs. JXL - A Little Less Conversation (Remix)

02. Snoop Dogg - Signs (feat. Justin Timberlake & Charlie Wilson)

03. Will Smith - Switch

Okay, the 2005 retros need to improve if an Elvis re-release is coming out on top  banger though! 'Signs' is breezy and cool, although slightly tainted by me singing along to the "doggy dog style" part in a restaurant as a kid, not knowing what it meant, my parents were not impressed

2000

01. Fragma - Toca's Miracle

02. Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers

03. Oxide & Neutrino - Bound 4 Da Reload (Casualty)

Iconic sample of the Casualty theme :cheeseblock:

Such a HUGE shame Carly Rae couldn't have got a #1 with those sales 5 years ago.

I was about to mention Kendrick Lamar & Tame Impala but neither of them really charted  I was Top 20 surprisingly but King Kunta missed the Top 40 :(

Shame they didn’t release their vinyls this week - I’m sure they would have had a chance if they had done so as they are releasing 2 coloured vinyl versions plus a CD single.

Ive seen the vinyl on amazon but not the cd single

That was NOTHING compared to 2016. I genuinely think that was the worst year this century.

Or 2017

Never realised Snoop Dogg was so close to #1 in 2005!

That Bound 4 Da Reload thing though :drama:

Henwould have to wait another 5 years for his no1!

They are both horrific. Besides Little Mix, The Weeknd and Adele domination. 2017 was a massive improvement in comparison!

It will be a shame to see Anne-Marie appear on a #1 today. Well don't get wrong 'Rockabye' was a tune but then 2002 came, the chavvy 'Friends' came and then 'Birthday.

Had no idea that 'I Really Like You' sold that much on its debut week :o Don't think it stuck around for that long from what I remember. 2015 was a decent year - maybe not a stellar year but not horrendous! The emergence of Major Lazer in the mainstream was a highlight I remember Lean On slowly climbing the charts! Bieber also smashed this year Looking back there was lots of decent songs and debuts by well-known artists however not many are the best they've produced.

I don't think Anne-Marie's appearance dominates the track to the point you'd remember it as one of her #1's  Also cackling at 'chavvy' Friends ha.

Biography

With melodic flows inspired by a love of both high-end fashion and his music industry lifestyle, Bay Area rapper 24kGoldn achieved platinum success before his 18th birthday. The rapper rose quickly from posting his songs online to a major-label deal as he produced hits like the passionate rap/singing hybrid "Valentino."

24kGoldn was born Golden Landis Von Jones in 2000. Growing up in a lively neighborhood in the Bay Area, he was exposed to different cultural perspectives early on, which would later inform his versatile approach to music. He began singing, but during his formative years he was more interested in fashion and sneakers than music. When he began rapping at age 14, his musical persona took shape quickly. By 2016 he had begun posting songs online, and early singles like "iPhone" and "Trapper's Anthem" began to attract moderate attention. He steadily released new songs, and it was 2018's "Ballin' Like Shareef" that broke through to wider audiences. At this point, 24kGoldn was attending University of Southern California and signed to Columbia affiliate Records LLC while working toward his degree. From there he recorded several songs that would become viral hits, beginning with the danceable and hooky "Valentino" in late 2018 and continuing in 2019 with "Games on Your Phone" and "A Lot to Lose." - iTunes

2016 was definitely the worst for staleness but in terms of the music itself it was definitely better that now for me! It feels like every year I'm *loving* less and less of the music in the charts.
