1st place Superman Lovers-Starlight [51.35%] (19 votes out of 37)

So another narrow contest but Superman Lovers just take it! The French dance outfit took Starlight to no.2 in September 2001 and this being the UK, it was obviously held off the top spot by Bob The Builder’s second no.1 hit and a cover to boot.

2nd place Snow Patrol-Chasing Cars [48.65%] (18 votes out of 37)

You can’t win them all, and after winning the no.14 poll with Chasing Cars, lightning doesn’t strike twice for Snow Patrol. Still an impressive feat!

Excellent winner, what a tune. Still find the video creepy as hell though!

1st place September-Cry For You [57.50%] (23 votes out of 41)[/size]

Kicking off an all female all Swedish final, we have September in pole position. Named after my birthday month, she took Cry For You, with a Bronski Beat sample before Ed thought of it, to no.5 in September 2008.

2nd place Agnes-Release Me [42.50%] (17 votes out of 41)

Leaving Agnes second. Release Me was a huge no.3 hit in June 2009 and was better than the songs that held it off the top spot. For a while, I had a theory she was the same person as Leona Lewis. Anyone ever seen them together in the same room?

3rd place Destiny’s Child-Survivor [72.22%] (26 votes out of 36)

4th place Fall Out Boy-This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race [40.00%] (14 votes out of 35)

5th place Daniel Bedingfield-If You’re Not The One [35.29%] (12 out of 34 votes)

6th place Mary J Blige & U2-One [45.71%] (16 votes out of 35)

7th place Kanye West Feat Jamie Foxx-Gold Digger [38.89%] (14 votes out of 36)

8th place Atomic Kitten-It’s OK! [32.43%] (12 votes out of 37)

9th place Westlife-My Love [51.72%] (15 votes out of 29)

10th place Kelly Osbourne Feat Ozzy Osbourne-Changes [47.22%] (17 votes out of 46)

I did always think she was basically Swedish Leona tbh regarding Agnes  totally unexpected winner in September as I did think 'Release Me' was the preferred choice and evidently so when seeing previous 35's survivors up till now. 'Cry For You' is excellent as well so at least a great song winning over Agnes and not a rubbish or average one.

1st place The Killers-Human [62.50%] (25 votes out of 40)

A win for the Killers! Human was the first single release from their third album Day & Age and it peaked at No.3 in November 2008. Though Mr Brightside is their biggest seller, Human was their biggest seller of the 2000s and I have very fond university related memories so I’m happy to see this do well.

2nd place Avril Lavigne-Complicated [37.50%] (15 votes out of 40)

Runner up is Avril Lavigne. The iconic debut single Complicated peaked at No.3 in September 2002-hard to believe its been 20 years. Very much the anti Britney, Avril was particularly popular with my group of friends at the time.

1st place Sweet Female Attitude-Flowers [52.94%] (18 votes out of 34)

Another close final! Sweet Female Attitude edge it with Flowers which peaked at No.2 in April 2000 behind Craig David. This original version is so good, just a shame it’s been shat on a few times since in the form of covers and samples.

2nd place Puretone-Addicted To Bass [47.06%] (16 votes out of 34)

Another No.2 hit comes in second. Puretone took Addicted To Bass to no.2 in January 2002 just narrowly missing the top spot to Aaliyah’s posthumous release. They won the overall race though selling much more in the long run.

3rd place Oasis-The Importance Of Being Idle [43.75%] (14 votes out of 22)

4th place Leona Lewis-Better In Time/Footprints In The Sand [34.62%] (9 votes out of 26)

5th place Taio Cruz-Break Your Heart [41.94%] (13 votes out of 31)

9th place Nizlopi-JCB Song [43.24%] (16 votes out of 38)

10th place T2 Feat Jodie Aysha-Heartbroken [27.78%] (10 votes out of 36)

Missed voting in this again but glad that the song I would have voted for did take the win with it being so close!

1st place Zombie Nation-Kernkraft 400 [63.41%] (26 votes out of 41)

Zombie Nation are victorious! Cruelly kept off the top spot in September 2000 by Mariah Carey and Westlife (no.1 for my 12th birthday) Kernkraft 400 had to settle for a fortnight at No.2 instead. I remember on my local radio station there were some debates between a DJ and some listeners as to whether Zombie Nation was the name of the artist or the song. After all, these are the only words in the song.

2nd place Mark Ronson Feat Daniel Merriweather-Stop Me [36.59%] (15 votes out of 41)

Enlisting the help of Daniel Merriweather and blending songs from the Smiths and Kim Wilde, Mark Ronson took Stop Me to no.2 in April 2007. A second and much more huge no.2 hit would arrive later that year in the form of Valerie with Amy Winehouse.

1st place Maroon 5-This Love [62.86%] (22 out of 35 votes)

Pleasantly surprised to see this win given the forum isn’t normally big on Maroon 5 but I’m happy to see they can recognise a good song when there is one. This Love was their second UK single and peaked at No.3 in April 2004. It lead to debut album Songs About Jane entering the top 10 although it’s have to wait for a third single release before it got its sole week at the top. I bought the album off the back of this track and it started my love for the group with me being obsessed with the album for a long while. Of course, they eventually sold out as we all know but I still remember those first albums fondly.

2nd place The Kooks-She Moves In Her Own Way [37.14%] (13 votes out of 35)

Runner up is the Kooks. She Moves In Her Own away was the fifth single from their debut album and their second top 10 hit following Naïve. It peaked at no.7 in July 2006 and it was the sound of a particularly hot Summer, one of the best times of my life. Such big love and fond memories associated with this track.

3rd place Samantha Mumba-Always Come Back To Your Love [48.57%] (17 votes out of 35)

4th place Mylo Vs Miami Sound Machine-Doctor Pressure [41.67%] (15 votes out of 36)

5th place Alex Gaudino Feat Crystal Waters-Destination Calibria [32.35%] (11 votes out of 34)

6th place Beyoncé-Sweet Dreams [27.78%] (10 votes out of 36)

7th place Chad Kroeger Feat Josey Scott-Hero [39.47%] (15 votes out of 38)

8th place Big Brovaz-Baby Boy [33.33%] (12 votes out of 36)

9th place Chris Brown-With You [27.50%] (11 votes out of 40)

10th place Westlife-What Makes A Man [43.59%] (17 votes out of (39)

Great winner. I too am surprised it won over The Kooks considering that they aren't well liked on here generally (although more so for their music in the last decade than anything I guess!).
