After the third round we say goodbye to the first ever X Factor charity single - featuring the finalists of what I consider the best ever series of X Factor. :heart: The level of talent in the top 12 was a peak for talent shows at that point with many of the acts being commercially viable pop stars. In that sense, the idea of a charity single came at the right time (imagine one being released the year before with that cast ). The song itself - a cover of Mariah Carey's 'Hero' - is nothing special tbh. My enjoyment of it back in 2008 was more from the excitement surrounding that particular series and having the likes of Alexandra, Diana and Ruth all on one song. :lol: 'Hero' opened with 312,000 copies sold in its opening week and stayed at the top spot for 3 weeks - denying Beyonce's If I Were A Boy a chance of entering at #1. Furthermore, it denied Rihanna (and T.I.) a number one with 'Live Your Life' and the chance for them to have the biggest climb to #1 from within the top 40 (they climbed 39-2 instead)!

If this thread was done at the end of 2009/ 2010 I'd be voting Rihanna out next as my very first buzzjack posts were all over disliking it but it's actually not as bad now.

 

I think before I do turn to that I'll go for Leona though as I was never mad on that and prefer Kelly's version more!

Hero is the best of the 4 X Factor charity #1s but yeah... still not great in isolation.
