Alcohol curfews are becoming more popular here with sales being stopped at 10 or 11pm, varying by state. Obviously drawing some complaints but hopefully it proves effective enough to keep restaurants and bars from shutting down again. I reckon these curfews will be in effect through the end of the year if not longer!

Saying stuff like that in the media is damn stupid and incredibly foolish in my eyes. If there's a chance of that happening (pubs closing) then people are gonna go hell for leather during August and get their fix before schools reopen, thus meaning higher risks of guidelines not being observed. Which in turn obviously means pubs then *will* be at a greater chance of closing.

The Aberdeen stuff sounds mental, I'm reading 20 bars could be affected? Sounds like a proper pub crawl. Seen a few pics of the pubs affected which don't seem to have takening social distancing seriously at all, which I feel is a trend up and down the UK.

 

I guess the main positive is that with such low case numbers you can trace and isolate the affected people to contain the spread.

And amazingly about 10 of my friends are still going up to a park tonight- the literal park where the golf course was named as the site of an outbreak :drama: I’m not gonna get all high and mighty over no social distancing as I’ve met up twice and not done it but still.
54 people with 54 families with our trackn system no chance!

 

It sounds like there is a localised approach though, which I think helps in these matters. It's why I'm a fan of the Government giving councils more power as they know the area.

 

Really does sound like the Aberdeen issue got a bit out of hand. Feel for all the other businesses affected. UK wide I just really struggle to see bars/pubs opening past 10pm when the schools open, especially if there are numerous examples where they can trace the original outbreak to a pub/bar.

Councils have been trying to convince the government of that for months but the government prefer to hand out contracts (without the usual tendering process) to their private sector pals, particularly if the company happens to be run by, for example, the brother of a former Tory MP who also happens to be the grandson of a former Tory PM.

No need to last week, I don't think it was near the radar. It's only been this week it's bumped up again to the radar.

 

I can't see nightclubs been allowed to re-open because at the moment it's the young spreading and catching the virus.

I know, it's actualy ridiculous. I hope the council issue some large fines to the owners, I can understand the want to open but nightclubs are not designed to be bars when you have all the lights turned off.

It says the R Rate in NI is 0.8-1.8, how are we the highest?

I’m assuming that NI has a low number of cases. I find the R0 to be a bit meaningless when you’ve got only a handful of cases because it bounces up and down so ridiculously with a daily fluctuations in cases. Like if you have 5 cases on Monday and then 10 on Tuesday that’s gonna spike your rolling R0 as that’s a 1 day R0 of 2.0. Anything below 50 cases a day and the R0 number is kinda meaningless imo

Burnham has a really good point. The 10 boroughs are all very highly interconnected. When i lived in GM I lived in Salford, worked in Manchester and commuted every day via Trafford. I also did my shopping mostly in Trafford. I had scores of work colleagues with similar patterns. No one thinks anything of just nipping to Stockport or going to the ikea in Ashton (Met.Bo. Tameside) or to the Trafford Centre (Met.Bo. Trafford).

 

Every single one of those self-serving brass necked charlatans trying to blame Burnham is more than aware of this
