I was very underwhelmed on first listen too but am liking it more and more (although I'll always think it was a missed opportunity to do something very special with this song ). I think the problem is I was expecting it to keep the pop production (which is perfect on the original), or something more along the lines of Confessions Madonna. They've gone in a club direction - which shouldn't be surprising given the name of the remix album - which takes way some of the joy in the track and I think we should expect the rest of the remixes to be similar!

If we'd never heard the original I think people would like this more!

I listened again and the first verse is not bad but it feels like the production actually goes DOWN in the chorus

Funnily enough the consensus here is the opposite to Popjustice. The majority of members replying to her thread there think this is sensational, and many of them are saying it's better than the original. There's no accounting for taste!

It left such a bad first impression on me that I've still not bothered to give it a second listen, but I will give it another go soon.

I LOVE the video, I really appreciate the queer vibe it has in parts and it's a cool concept especially considering the fact it was filmed during lockdown. Where is Madge though?

A lot of the appeal of the song came from the melody of the lyrics for me so the change of production doesn't take away from that. Plus I do like the new production anyway, the beginning feels quite Confessions era.

Still can't wrap my head around the reaction. I can get not liking it or missing in the original production but to actively hate it seems a bit much. The Twitter mob's comments to The Blessed Madonna have been awful.

I've read about it and it's disgusting.

I just feel like people wanted the original with Madonna parts on it and call it Club Remix.

Well... The Blessed Madonna wasn't really blessed with production skills, was she?

The final result is simply atrocious. :(

Yeah I don’t understand people actively hating it!

I think it’s a huge missed opportunity considering the names involved, and the new production takes a lot away from the original but it’s not terrible, it’s just not very exciting and had so much more potential. I think if it had been a standard remix released alongside the original Levitating it would be fine, but it’s not a strong enough remix to be a single, and having Madonna and Missy on a non-single would obviously be a waste. Just odd they thought it was strong enough to release as a single?

I actually really like the Blessed Madonna’s work, but what she does best is long dj sets and extended remixes, not a 4 minute long single aimed at the charts. She’s not a wannabe/nobody producer whatsoever...

I had never heard of her before Dua made her announcement. Has she had any hits? Was she blessed with having a thread started for her in our Dance forum? :D

So just because you haven't heard of her, she is a nobody? wow. ignorance is bliss.

The Blessed Madonna is a very famous and respected dj, she doesn't make commercial music, hence why she does not have chart success, but she plays all around the world and has been famous for doing remixes for quite some time now. Calling someone a nobody/wannabe dj is just plain rude in general.

Yeah calling somebody a nobody because they haven’t commercial success is a yikes to me. So many artists have careers from their critical acclaim despite being smaller acts and not having commercial successes

I meant that someone of Dua's caliber should / could have enlisted a more commercial & known producer / DJ, like Calvin Harris for example.

But in any case you lot are completely right. My comment was quite disrespectful and I would like to apologize.

Have to admit, I found this so nondescript on first listen... But, the minimalist production is actually taking over my brain and really feels like a worthy entity in its own right!

That said: I'd still love a version with Madonna and Missy on the album mix...

The one time we all actually wanted one of those "rent a rapper" style remixes (and I'm sorry, but we had EVERY right to believe that is what would happen) maybe adding a bit extra to the production here and there to make it a lil different or whatever, and this is what we are given? It's such a misfire. Madonna & Missy would have KILLED it on a version of the song that was closer to the album version, imo.

Idk, I feel like this being pushed as the main version when the original is already perfect enough to release as a single/to have Madonna and Missy slot perfectly well into their own version of it, is what is the problem for me. (I also think this is why it's not being so well received)

Idm the remix version existing, but when I saw that this was going to be pushed as a single with Madonna & Missy on it, I would've liked a standard "single remix" with this being one of those random remixes that gets thrown out a couple of weeks later and just left alone to do it's own thing, whilst the "single remix" was dominating radio etc..

EDIT: Add to the fact that they're rushing and glossing over Hallucinate's single campaign for this :arrr: (Kinda hoping Hallucinate manages to take on it's own life though at the same time)
