Well wife was until now but her friend's sister, who lives with her, has had a brainstorm or something, turned really nasty to everyone and told her she better not go there next weekend as it's against the law. So she can't really go. :(

I’ve not been a massive fan of Welsh Labour these last couple of weeks but this needs attention.

Westminster doesn’t care about anything but England and they barely care for half of that.

The UK Gov has treated the devolved administrations with disdain at absolute best. Brexit really pulled at the seams but this pandemic will go down as the thing that broke the Union. Even Welsh Indy support is hitting the numbers that Scottish indy was getting a decade ago now.

Apparently Gove has said that if this month's long lockdown doesn't bring R doWn enough then it could be extended another month to last until just after Christmas.

That’s an honest answer. Expect him to be sacked by lunchtime.

I know most really want Christmas to go ahead as usual but all this ‘sacrificing now so we can have Christmas’ rhetoric is a slap in the face for all those who went into lockdown the night before Eid.
Going to be very interesting to see how long scotland goes on it’s no-lockdown strategy and if the earlier restrictions to the central belt actually leads to them being the only part of the uk to avoid the lockdown.

They were quite happy to hang Manchester and other Tier 3 regions but not giving enough money to fund more than 2/3 pay

Pub landlords are reportedly very angry as they're not allowed to do takeaway pints this time like they were before. No reason has been given and many are lobbying their MP's to try and change this when it goes to the Commons on Wednesday. It'll just mean more closures they say as more people drink at home and some don't return to the pubs.

He won't be sacked. Better to keep your enemies inside the tent..... :P

Yeah the closure of pubs is just going to increase house parties as opposed to people drinking in a place which is (at least partially) Covid secure.

However to stay open the pubs would have had to decrease customer numbers there at one time to become more Covid secure, especially as when some people have a few drinks they may forget more about social distancing. This wouldn't have been economically viable either for them either.

Just what I've said to wife. It helps pub finances to do takeaway pints though with people queuing in a SD manner. Personally I'd prefer to buy in off-licence or corner shop than queueing to take away from a pub but some say a pulled pint just tastes better and fresher.

After this lockdown yes the shift to takeaway pints are a good idea I agree, also perhaps more restaurants doing 'street food' too (although the weather of course could be an issue with this :( ) There are a lot of good ways of shifting the hospitality economy outside more.

And that’s the way capitalism should be it should change to serve the people not the other way round with the nonsense of returning to the office to help the city centre sandwich bars.

Not sure what the point would be about a take away pint but I’m a tee totaller so wouldn’t know!

If it means more house parties though surely that fault lies with the people that chose to go to them rather than the government?

One of the biggest complaints about the app has been ghost messages saying "you've been near someone with covid-19". If the risk threshold hadn't been artificially high, many of those alerts would have been instructions to isolate

As it was, people were told to ignore them

"World beating"...

Just a reminder, the "world beating" app has cost around £12bn. The cost of making sure children are fed in the school holidays is a very small fraction of that but, of course, the money wouldn't end up in the pockets of Johnson's chums.

The English nationalist gov that controls Westminster are at it again

Scottish Gov asked for furlough extension, told no. Welsh Gov asked for it to cover the firebreak, told no. SE England needs it, SE England gets it *paid for* by the taxpayers of the whole of the UK. Scotland might go without need for second lockdown or the need might come a few weeks down the line, so Scot Gov again asks if they can have furlough should Scotland lockdown at a time that doesn’t coincide with England....told a firm no. This is reprehensible and truly f***ing vile. The taxpayers in Scotland, Wales and NI are paying for England to be on furlough because the UK Gov is the only one who has the fiscal powers required to run such a scheme and is abusing that position to benefit England and shut out the devolved administrations and their citizens.

This from a PM that appointed himself minister for the union. Should have called himself minister for disunion because there’s no way the union survives this ever escalating clusterf*** of a government.

Johnson wants his place in history. If that place is as the last PM of the UK, he doesn't care.

Here's an interesting heat map showing cases by age in Exeter. It does show that the spread has almost entirely been contained within the young adult population... which is quite incredible really.

Whereas in Liverpool, the spread initially started in the younger population, but also in the 55-59 year olds and has quickly been spread to all (and more worryingly, older) age groups.

That data is really interesting - makes you wonder if because the base cases were lower it was easier to initially track. Plus forgive me if I am wrong, but Exeter only has one University? The Red Brick ones traditionally go back 1-2 weeks later that the old Polytechnical ones. And finally the demograhpic make up of Exeter is slightly more rural and less interconnected than say Liverpool or Manchester for example.

But really interesting stuff.. just proves the effectiveness of an actual valid contain, track and trace strategy that was most likely locally coordinated.
