Hello and welcome to the results of Quiz Week 8: Never Mind The BuzzJacks. Thank you to the below 28 people who participated, I’m pleased that it has been enjoyed, nice to read some of the comments about choices of song and I did enjoy some of the guesses which were sent when a song wasn’t known (looking at you BillyH)!

First up is Kasabian with their debut single Club Foot, one of the most recognisable riffs of the time and a song which has gone on to be one of their most loved, only Fire has more Spotify plays in the streaming era. A solid start with 23 people recognising it.

02 – Sub Focus – Tidal Wave (feat. Alpines) (2012)

UK Chart Peak: 12

Entered at Peak: Yes - 2/2

Next is Sub Focus with what was their biggest hit at the time Tidal Wave, with the help of Alpines, a band who I loved at the time but unfortunately were never able to capitalise on a bit of mainstream success. Again, I think a solid score for a song considering its chart success and age.

I had to look up what Kasabian song it was but knew it was them, thanks to my parents for insisting on having Radio X on.

03 – The 1975 – Give Yourself a Try (2018)

UK Chart Peak: 22

Entered at Peak: Yes - 3/3

Song #3 is a recent one from The 1975 with Give Yourself a Try, the lead single from their 3rd album. They’re a band who’ve had far more chart hits than I imagined they would’ve done, both when they first appeared and now looking back. It gets an impressive score with 75% identifying it and one more getting the band right. The first of only three songs not to receive any answers to the bonus question.

Correct Answers [21/28] – AaronTM, Ansel, Awardinary, BillyH, Bjork, Bre, Chrissmith276, CianS, Cremey, DalekTurret32, Dandy*, Danvember, Dobbo, Jade, Jimwatts, jlj, KingRollo, Mack, M4NGO, N4yr, Paulgilb, PeteFromLeeds, Riser, Rush, SevenSeize, StoneDragon, TS0301, Vibe

1/2 points [1] N4yr (The 1975)

Blank [4] – Bre, King Rollo, Mack, Vibe

Incorrect [2] – BillyH (Foxes), Dobbo (Klaxons)

Yay, good start so far! I wrongly put 'Underdog' as the Kasabian song at first but thankfully realised my mistake when checking over them!

One of their better songs for me, although the riff is a bit too similar to Joy Division's 'Disorder'.

Good going so far :)

Ah, I recognized the first two and couldn't place them no matter how many times I listened to the clips. I did consider Kasabian for #1 and not sure why I went for Hard-Fi instead, ah well.

04 – London Grammar – Baby It’s You (2020)

UK Chart Peak: 80

Entered at Peak: Yes - 4/4

Next is the most recent song included, chosen as it’s my favourite song to trouble the UK top 100 this year, the fantastic London Grammar with Baby It’s You. Despite not really troubling the charts it’s recognised by a lot with some incorrect answers varying in their likelihood. It’s also the first correct answer to one of the bonus questions, with 10 people identifying it as one of the two ‘odd ones out’! :o

Correct Answers [18/28] – AaronTM, Ansel, Awardinary, Bjork, Bre, Chrissmith276, CianS, Cremey, DalekTurret32, Dandy*, Danvember, Jimwatts, jlj, M4NGO, N4yr, PeteFromLeeds, StoneDragon, TS0301

Blank [6] – King Rollo, Mack, Paulgilb, Rush, SevenSeize, Vibe

Incorrect [4] – BillyH (Johnny La and the Laas), Dobbo (The xx), Jade (Florence + The Machine), Riser (Doves)

Correct ‘Odd One Out’ guesses [10] – Ansel, Awardinary, Bjork, Chrissmith276, DalekTurret32, Jimwatts, jlj, Rush, StoneDragon, TS0301

That one bugged me so badly!! 'Baby It's You' was in my chart and everything  but didn't think it was something recent at all oops.

Took me a while to figure out which Kasabian song #1 was, their entire discography before 'Fire' kind of blurs into one in my memory but I was certain it was them so I listened through the intros of a bunch of their singles to figure out which one it was

#3 is the first of the three that I knew I recognised but couldn't put my finger on, I actually had a feeling it was something by The 1975 so I don't know why I didn't just guess that or look up any of their songs to find it but ah well ~ Probably should have got 'Tidal Wave' too but that one wasn't quite as close to the tip of my tongue.

London Grammar being one of the odd ones out in the theme is making me feel like my guess at the theme may have been almost right but not quite... that was one of the quickest ones for me to recognise, one of my favourite songs of the year <3

05 – Girls Aloud - Untouchable (2009)

UK Chart Peak: 11

Entered at Peak: No – 4/5

Song 5 is Untouchable from Girls Aloud, their penultimate charting single in 2009 and for me, has always been one of their best. Maybe a sign of how BuzzJack has moved on over the years that this only gets 18/28 correct answers, and one incorrect guess at the most correct answers bonus, not quite the worst answer to that question :kink:

Correct Answers [18/28] – AaronTM, Awardinary, Chrissmith276, CianS, Cremey, Dandy*, Danvember, Dobbo, Jade, Jimwatts, jlj, Mack, M4NGO, N4yr, Rush, SevenSeize, StoneDragon, TS0301

Blank [6] – Ansel, Bjork, Bre, King Rollo, Paulgilb, Vibe

Incorrect [4] – BillyH (Robin Schulz), DalekTurret32 (Benny Benassi), PeteFromLeeds (The Orb), Riser (Sash!)

Incorrect ‘Most Correct Answers’ guesses: Dandy*

Today marks 18 years since Girls Aloud formed! Fitting that they appear here - with a fantastic song too  I was so peeved that it missed the top 10 :snif:

06 – Bruce Springsteen – Dancing in the Dark (1984)

UK Chart Peak: 04

Entered at Peak: No – 4/6

A short but instantly recognisable clip of a classic from Bruce Springsteen next, the second oldest song included, despite its age most getting it correct again with a couple of incorrect guesses of the same song.

Correct Answers [23/28] – Ansel, Awardinary, BillyH, Bjork, Bre, Chrissmith276, CianS, Cremey, DalekTurret32, Dandy*, Danvember, Dobbo, Jimwatts, jlj, KingRollo, Mack, M4NGO, Paulgilb, Riser, Rush, SevenSeize, StoneDragon, TS0301

Blank [2] – AaronTM, Vibe

Incorrect [3] – Jade, N4yr (Billy Joel – We Didn’t Start The Fire), PeteFromLeeds (Blondie)

Incorrect ‘Odd One Out’ guesses: M4NGO

I knew it wasn't 'We Didn’t Start The Fire' but I couldn't shake that off melodically so I thought it was better than nothing

I think that Bruce Springsteen song has entirely passed me by oops  let me finally give it a first listen!

I very briefly thought of Gorillaz' 'Aries' before getting 'Dancing In The Dark' (the riff has a pretty similar melody) which kind of shows how recently biased my mind is  classic song though

'Untouchable' is a great song as well, one of GA's best, but pretty sure that's a clip I didn't recognise at all. I am bad at this.
