Well my Christmas present for my girlfriend might be stuck on the wrong side of the Eurotunnel, and even if it made it through on time I don’t know if they’ll be able to ship goods from England to here before Christmas, so if I’m single by Boxing Day I’m going to invoice Tory HQ.

Update - it's now in Newtownabbey, so it'll be here for Christmas. Relieved does not begin to cover it.

It's a Christmas miracle! :D

I see you tried the Ed Miliband tactic - underpromise, overdeliver - as opposed to the opposite Boris Johnson approach. ; )

BA have finally faced reality and my flight home is cancelled. I have no idea when I will be able to return to my home now, but i will be here long enough to be able to see friends (in keeping with Tier4 (SCO) restrictions)
My work was insane today, I know it's Christmas but I've never seen anything like it :drama: I think this closed borders saga has fuelled the idiots who think that food is gonna run out overnight

That's really scary!!!

I'm in the same position I'm in tier 4 currently and I can't really risk going back to Manchester so....am I just living with my parents for the next couple of months?! 😂 Thank god I can work from home and my boyfriend has come with me!

If it’s in Newtownabbey it should be here by next Christmas then

christmas in retail is grim at the best of times but this is gonna be awful. You have my sympathy

My sister is doing nights for M&S and said this morning the car park was full and they had a queue. Then this even when she’s gone back into work it’s still mobbed and the shelves are bare

Yeah it’s not ideal tbh 🤣

Same boat as you, luckily I can work from my parents and my boss is super understanding about it (her response was that she was glad id managed to make it out of Germany so I wasn’t alone over Xmas in Berlin).

My friends are thrilled 🤣🤣 guess these are just the risks you have to be ok with taking by travelling in a pandemic 🤷🏼‍♂️

I went to Asda and didn't wait even to go in. The queue to get in was insane. The security guys said there's definitely panic buying now, especially fresh stuff like, fruit, veg, meat and fish.

Why would you panic buy fresh stuff, it’s not like it lasts? I imagine this is more people ensuring they have stuff for Christmas Day because the media have hyped up shortages.

I think there’s a lot of folk doing what we did and just getting their usual fresh stuff a couple of days earlier than normal. Just to be safe

I worked a major supermarket for years and at this time of year there was always shortages on the shelves of fresh stuff. Not because we didn’t have stock but because you couldn’t get it out of the warehouse fast enough to keep up with demand

I see the Daily Star's headline today is "Who the hell stockpiles lettuce" With meat and fish you can always freeze some.

Isn't most of the extra buying simply people who are no longer meeting up with or going to stay with family stocking up on food for home because they hadn't got anything in for Christmas?

Oh I hate the public, I need to go into there today for an alcohol shop as well.

That’s what I assumed that a lot of the mad rush was

Indeed. So masses of extra demand short term created by this utter fail of a government.

Will be part of it, yes. Am dreading going to Asda tomorrow for more milk. Mind you on same day last year I got smoked salmon really cheap.

All the big supermarkets say they have enough stocks right up to late Christmas Eve.

Mine will be off-licence this year. It's actually not much dearer and supermarkets don't have tall cans of K cider anyway.

SUPPORT LOCAL SHOPS. You may need them when they've closed down.
