The source (it's the effing Sun's political correspondent but no doubt where the Tories will leak the info) says there's an option to open up on the 5th July if data is good but we know that's not going to happen don't we?

Clubs. Gigs. Removing social distances in pubs/restaurants which are taking less than pre pandemic.

Bad idea to not socially distance until everyone’s two vaccines like
Figs in bbc news 12/42 deaths of people who died from delta variant had two vaccine doses.

Didn't we know the maximum effectiveness was 90% anyway?

They need to share more data about these, if it's allowed.

There's a big difference between 12 of the 42 people dying being otherwise healthy vaccinated people with strong immune systems, and them being people already with multiple cancers and conditions who might already be in their late 80s and at deaths' door. Not a difference in terms of how much they 'matter' before anyone comes for me. But a difference in terms of how you would expect them to be impacted by any other extra condition they were struck down by.

What’s also important is how long it’s been since dose 2. You’re not fully vaxxed for a good fortnight after so if you pick it up in the interim then you wouldn’t be quite as immune and protected
It is odd that when all of this started they were quick to say ‘don’t worry, these people that died had underlying health issues’ and now they never mention anything like that. Not that they would when we had 1k deaths but the situation has changed and it would be interesting to assess the risk.

Yes, good points too guys.

For me, knowledge is just the most important thing and it makes me uneasy when aspects are being concealed for no good reason.

I geneuinely think we would be in a better place with public health and trust if they had made sure to explain things calmly and clearly wherever possible instead of jumping to concealing and/or hysteria, leading to it being very easy to create rumours and hearsay. The cat's out of the bag now, I guess.

Think a lot of that reporting is mainly connected to the first wave, and it was what was coming out of China.

Personally, I think a 4 week delay is about right. It is shite of course, but we're so close to the end now. Wouldn't surprise me if they say 4 weeks, but then bow to the pressure and make it 2 weeks. I think they have it right now - 4 weeks gets us to the schools closing, which means opening up other high risk activities, but schools are closed so less manover for R growth.

Well if it is 4 weeks then that would be 19th July, just in time for a stag do I’m at on 23rd July.
I booked club tickets for 9th July :nocheer:

Finally booked my vaccine appointment. Looking forward to it.

A 4 week delay isn't too bad. During that time millions more people should have had first/second doses and have created a decent immune response. I do feel for clubs/bars/theatres etc though.

I wonder if they'll tweak vaccines soon. I believe they should regarding the delta variant and a booster programme started in September in time for the winter season?

I don't think there will be any real normality until mid-2022. By that time most of the world should've been vaccinated and the number of variants of concern decreasing.

Anxiously waiting for my LFT results now. 3 colleagues have had to book PCR tests today after testing positive. This is the first time anyone has tested positive since we began doing them in March.

EDIT: my results are back negative which is a relief, but I’m still anxious over the next few weeks.

I've now seen that they WILL just go ahead with the date of June 21st! In a weird way I kind of hope it's not true.

What's the source for that Jack? BBC reporting decision is 4 week delay that they have heard this evening. Decision has been made allegedly.

It was just that Politics For All account

Think it came from here though - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2021/0...re_AxSm6983VBKn

I don't have a subscription to know exactly what was said though 🥴 Apparently it was his Covid advisor who said to go ahead with it but who knows. Its so hard to know which news sources to trust and not trust when it comes to things like this.

It wouldn't exactly be a surprise if the government allowed people to think that the easing of restrictions was going to be delayed and then announced tomorrow that it was going ahead as planned. Of course, that doesn't mean they won't announce a delay next weekend after the Chesham & Amersham byelection is safely out of the way.

For whatever decision is made, I hope there is a clear and understandable rationale.

But given Johnson will be delivering it, I expect it’ll be vague and confusing and fail to satisfy any viewpoint.

Ah yeah, Politics For All is very dodgy. They often mis-report information purposely or miss out key bits of articles to gain maximum traction.

With public polling firmly for a delay I think it's a given that there will be a four week delay with a few concessions perhaps. I think if anything would cut the Tory lead it would be a fast opening with overflowing hospitals and NHS not coping.
