November 21, 20213 yr I used my COVID pass for the first time yesterday at the cinema which was extremely easy to do. My parents are going nuts over it and how they’re being discriminated against even though they never go to the cinema anyway and could just get a negative lateral flow. Apparently my fully vaccinated (including booster) grandparents were turned away from the cinema the other day because they didn’t have COVID passes (I do feel for older people who might not have access to phones or printers and I’m not sure why letters couldn’t be sent out to them) and of course my unvaccinated parents are running with it and acting very superior. I’m also hosting my sister and her boyfriend at mine at Christmas. She hasn’t outrightly told my parents that she won’t stay with them because they’re unvaccinated but I imagine they’ll be able to work it out. But instead of reflecting o; it they’re more likely shaking their heads about how silly and brainwashed their daughter is. I can’t really see what a COVID pass achieves if I’m honest. As we know you can catch COVID even after having both vaccinations and the booster and still spread it. So I could unknowingly have COVID show my pass and enter the venue and spread it the same as someone who hasn’t had any vaccinations. Edited November 21, 20213 yr by darrens94
November 21, 20213 yr I can’t really see what a COVID pass achieves if I’m honest. As we know you can catch COVID even after having both vaccinations and the booster and still spread it. I think they are good if it encourages people to get vaccinated, but not sure how effective they are at preventing transmission. I would support them if they become enforced, but we have such high rates as it is, I am not sure what the merits of them are. The more worrying sign for me is the anti-vaccine/anti-establishment/anti-lockdown troubles that are plaguing Europe at the moment. Unfortunately if we have any restrictions added here in England especially, I really dread to think what might happen, as groups seem to be using what is happening in the Netherlands as a blueprint. Worrying there is such an anti-establishment trend at the moment and not the good kind!
November 21, 20213 yr Exactly. Intellectually and morally I support vaxx passports I just don’t think they would work here. First of all the Tories would involve one of their mates for millions of pounds of public money and they won’t deliver and then the worry from the anti vaxxers. Although could argue you don’t stop doing something because of pushback and threats of violence from sections of the public, you pick your battles carefully. Thanks to those who wished well. Feel so much more confident and relaxed about my COVID now I’m double vaxxed then not at all.
November 22, 20213 yr Looking around the world I am grateful for the level of freedom we currently have in the UK.
November 26, 20213 yr A new more potentially dangerous covid variant has been found in some African countries. It is more transmissible and vaccine may not fully protect!
November 26, 20213 yr Not again with this "South African variant" nonsense 😭😭 Our economy and especially my industry cannot survive a second successive December/new year season without tourists FML!
November 26, 20213 yr The new variant is called, in a way that is definitely not going to lead to any Abbot and Costello-esque routines, the “Nu Variant”. It appears to have already reached Israel, so wouldn’t be surprised if it’s already in the UK, even with those countries added to the Red list. I thought the UK might have been able to avoid a return to lockdown, but the odds of that are likely to increase now.
November 26, 20213 yr A certain Olivia Rodrigo song title springs to mind here... 1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back?
November 26, 20213 yr Although currently no evidence that this variant causes severe illness on vaccinated at this point. The fast closure of admitting people from Southern Africa is a good precaution but hopefully it won't cause carnage. We'll see very soon I think...
November 26, 20213 yr Saw something earlier from a German immunologist that suggested the Nu breakthrough cases tended to happen in those with weaker levels of immunity and that the booster should prevent any major breakthrough epidemic - based on currently available information of course
November 26, 20213 yr I think it is probably already too late and has already spread. The travel bans now just seem to be politically saving face, I would expect that it gets picked up pretty shortly in the UK through sequencing. But we don't know enough about the new variant yet, so I don't think there is a mass alarm for panic, just gonna have to wait for the days and weeks for the scientists to do their thing.
November 26, 20213 yr Yep it shows YET AGAIN that anti vaxxers are dangerous, disease spreading assholes and are more likely to die.
November 26, 20213 yr Yep it shows YET AGAIN that anti vaxxers are dangerous, disease spreading assholes and are more likely to die. I don't think that's necessarily fair. There are still many many people around the world (particularly in Africa) who want the vaccine but their countries don't have the supply. If any variants emerge like this then it is just as much fault on the richer countries for not providing excess jabs. That being said this new variant could just as much be being spread by those already jabbed.

I was referring to people who have the ability to get vaxxed and choose not to PLUS try and spread misinformation to stop others getting vaxxed. Wasn't referring to people who want the vaccine but don't have the opportunity due to supply.
November 26, 20213 yr I can’t talk about antivaxxers without sounding majorly fash right now so I find it best not to coz otherwise I just provide „evidence“ to back up their delusions about this being some form of plan or cult or whatever. Personally, I’d make it mandatory to have all the vaccines on the standard schedule + the covid ones. Then Fine the c**ts :)

November 26, 20213 yr Really worrying about this new variant. The UK Government has done the right thing with the red list. Weird that its another variant that started in South Africa, I assume that it just because the scientists seem to test well for virus variants there.
