Cabinet at 2 - so prob new restrictions going to be announced. They'll be awful but we can't wish this virus and its variants away - have strong leadership and support the buisnesses that will suffer. But something as simple as that is not possible for our immoral lazy leaders.

Absolutely no chance of pre-Christmas restrictions.

Rumours are saying 28th Dec 2 week circuit breaker. Hmmm.... will that include non public hospitatlity like visiting friends? I know it's unenforcable but will they even try to do that after the PM breaking the rules?
Yep it'll be a complete total lockdown but presumably people will be even less obliged to follow rules on indoor mixing, particularly with NYE coming right up...
All the rumours I'm seeing is the old restrictions from April are coming back in for a month, so outdoor only for hospitality. Look, I think any sort of restrictions are going to be hard to impose to certain people, especially under 40s/50s who are fully boosted. All does seem very much "what is the point". I totally get the need for the breaks to be put on looking at the infections. There is just too much right now we don't know. Going to be another very bleak Christmas/New Year.
It's bad but it's where we are at. Unless we are prepared to have many thousands more dying or the NHS being overwhelmed and be honest about that. I know loads will say "Johnson broke the rules so why should we follow them?" but that doesn't help with stopping the spread. What that shower of unmentionables do has no bearing on me.

Unfortunately that won’t be the case for a lot of people. We have the most untrustworthy government in the history of the UK. Their actions now vindicate people with conspiracy theories and their constant failings have left us in this position. They’ve dug their own grave now and I think a new government is the only way people will listen now. And there’s fat chance of that happening.

It's really unacceptable to not keep the public updated as to what's going on, just let people know and make a decision without so ma y various "leaks" - it has a drain on people's mental health and wellbeing, especially over the Christmas period. Not only that, a lot of businesses will have been reliant on New Year's Eve to make up for a lot of profit they lost throughout the year.

I'm not surprised though the leaks happened all last year as well 🙄 it's so predictably boring in how AWFUL it's being handled yet again.

The thing is, people who want to break the rules will break them regardless. They just use the Government actions as an excuse. Most people are sensible. The problem is right now so much is unknown. Hospitalisations are up, but not as much as first feared so it's all a guessing game. Not an easy one by any stretch of the imagination for anyone as we have so little to go off.

100% agree. There needs to be proper transparency. Not this leak bullshit which has been happening for the last year or so. How are businesses and people meant to adjust/prepare when they leak the info then suddenly announce restrictions etc with a very short notice period.

On a more positive note, I managed to get my booster today. It was quite empty which was nice and I got seen to right away so didn't have to wait long. I got moderna for my booster shot and so far a little bit of a sore arm but nothing too bad. Although quite a few of my work colleagues got theirs over the weekend and were quite ill. Hoping I will be fine.

So after 2 and a half hours, still no new measures but also still not ruling anything out.

Hope they enjoyed the cheese and wine.

The political and moral authority he has diminished substantially last Christmas.

This is just a proper f***ing mess. The country is on fire and more concerned with their ideology and clinging to power rather than the public good like they’re supposed to be

The cabinet is divided, the problem is I don’t think he can bet any measures through. Not sure what we could do at this stage really, I feel the damage has already been done but we’re walking in to the situation blind.

Pretty much on a knife edge if they announce another lockdown. Name a negative emotion and I've got it. Feel like I could smash something.

:( I'm completely with you. Last lockdown has a huge toll on my mental health and made me more anxious than usual, I really am scared for myself and others how it will affect us as I don't trust it being two weeks at all.

I'm also sick of people telling me not to worry, it's for the best, count your blessings etc etc. Like can we stop gatekeeping how people feel in a pandemic and pretending it's anything other than depressing af. I know they mean well but still!

I really dislike when people do that. You can't help how you feel and your feelings don't suddenly become invalidated because of a few words someone says like "don't worry"/"you're so lucky you can work from home" etc.

In one way I'm glad I can't do my job from home. It's helped me mentally being in every day - my commute is a 25-30 minute walk. It's a great way to de-stress just walking to/from work whilst listening to music.

Honestly that’s a big part of why I voluntarily go into the office. That walk is so good for the soul and to help split work and life. I think there’s nothing worse about all of this than the feeling of being trapped in the house. It eats you from the inside out

Fully agree with your comments. Unfortunately, further restrictions are inevitable right now. People who say they won’t follow due to the government breaking rules is a lousy excuse and not acceptable. Everyone’s actions have an impact in a situation like this and just because the government broke the rules doesn’t justify everyone else doing it. We are where we are and the only way we will get out of this situation is by ensuring the virus spread is suppressed.

I honestly might try this approach, the office will be empty but it might be good to just be in a different environment from time to time.
