January 4, 20214 yr Sky saying a Portuguese woman, 41, with no health problems, suffered a sudden death 48 hours after taking the vaccine. I had my doubts before but definitely not having any vaccine now. She was fine for the previous 48 hours after receiving the vaccine then it seems her heart just stopped. Co-incidence or not? Post-mortem takes place shortly but they say it may not show anything, as it didn't with my daughter. Not saying it's not safe for most people but most isn't enough to convince me. Also I read today that they can't guarantee that it won't cause long term side effects or infertility. Not that that affects me now. Hundreds of thousands of people have had the vaccine. The fact that one of them has died suddenly tells you precisely nothing about its safety.
January 4, 20214 yr Author No they've probably had some information today that points to an even worse situation later in the month if we don't go in to lockdown now. Things change almost hourly in these situations, bit like being at war with an unseen enemy. And yet SAGE were advising this since mid-December. CLEARLY there is pressure from within government to hold out, mostly the Treasury and Superhero* Rishi Sunak. *According to the BBC. Another record case rate of 58784 new coronavirus cases today. It's also the 7th consecutive day of >50000 cases, a rate that was predicted and then scoffed at by right wing nut jobs on Twitter.

No they've just chosen to ignore the science as they've done at every stage of the epidemic until it's too late
January 4, 20214 yr How do you know what info No.10 and the Dept. Of Health have had privately today? You don't. None of us do so don't assume nothing has changed today. Not everything is made public. Strange then that we have been able to come to the same conclusion as the government, but DAYS BEFORE IT!!! They are playing politics and gambling with people's lives. Bojo the Clown is not fit to govern, something we all knew WELL in advance too.
January 4, 20214 yr Author No they've just chosen to ignore the science as they've done at every stage of the epidemic until it's too late Exactly - and it's probably already too late. Absolute shambles as always from this government.
January 4, 20214 yr They have been holding out on schools because they believe the benefits outweigh the risks, which I did agree with until this new variant was discovered. Keeping schools open is negligent if it is putting more and more teachers, kids etc. at risk. This whole mess could have been avoided if kids didn't go in today in lots of parts of the country. It's why Labour were peddling the myth too. Although I wonder if the Unions etc. kicked up a huge fuss today and the Government have listened to SAGE advice. The plan clearly was that the vaccine would be the way out and it is the only way out. Clearly there comes a point where we may have to be forced in to playing God if things do get really bad.

Things change almost hourly in these situations, bit like being at war with an unseen enemy. Oh do you mean like the schools being safe yesterday because it was a Sunday and there was no one in them mixing but then Boris suddenly realised that oh shit, open schools mean mixing and people will die? His hand has been forced because he first thought teachers would roll over for this and secondly thought that parents would side with him. Wrong on both counts. You have to be the ultimate troll or the ultimate simpleton to follow him round like a stupid puppy dog the way that you do.
January 4, 20214 yr Author Hundreds of thousands of people have had the vaccine. The fact that one of them has died suddenly tells you precisely nothing about its safety. Important point to raise - this is newsworthy mainly because of clickbait but also because it is an incredibly rare occurrence. My Nan had the first dose on 23rd December and is still happy and alive - if that makes you feel better Chris?
January 4, 20214 yr Let me put it straight that not seeing my class today and only seeing them virtually tomorrow is heart-breaking. Teaching is so much more than delivering a few lessons, you become invested in their lives, their families' lives and not just their education. But it was painfully clear that they should not have opened today. No new evidence presented today could have confirmed that because it was clear as day even in December, but yet we carried on. I am devastated that I won't be able to be one with my class in the coming months if this full lockdown is happening - no teacher wants this. Obviously children are usually safest and happiest at schools but this is not a usual circumstance so unusual means need to be taken to protect their lives. Even when schools are shut, teachers are still working - in fact my work load has nearly trebled because preparing lessons to deliver online is incredibly time-consuming (whereas when the children are sat in front of you, a lot of the lesson is spent bouncing ideas around the room), added on to that, we take time out to personally call all 30 children's families, deliver food packages, make trips to their homes to put smiles on their faces, mark the online work, provide feedback, plan for the next lesson etc. Our work does not stop and the children's learning does not stop if it is moved to online learning so this is the only option now and it MUST happen today. Yes it is a day too late, but I pray it isn't two days late or even worse! We will still make sure they are safe and happy at home too so they are not in danger by not coming into school (and if they are, they are brought into school). I pray the right move is made today. Commonsense - I have frequently, against my better judgement, accepted how difficult it has been for this government during these times, but this is something that is unforgivable because millions of lives have been put at risk today for NO REASON.
January 4, 20214 yr Touché. Labour have been appalling. Way more concerned about winning Brexiteers over than actual public safety. They’ve lost my vote. Sir Keir has finally (and it feels very reluctantly) admitted that schools must close now. Why he couldn't say this days ago, I don't know. @1346137101302194177
January 4, 20214 yr Don't even try to suggest there's 'new information'. This has been the advice of science for WEEKS and that everyone with a functioning brain could've seen coming with infections going the way they were. They didn't need to do much - delay schools for a few weeks, and yet they gave a needlessly complex opening strategy, go back on themselves a few days later, still keep some schools open despite outcry from just about every corner and then not even 24 hours later, decide that actually that was a bad idea after it's just happened. The way thisThat is atrocious governing, no question. You don't 'wait and see' when people's lives are at stake. I work in FE and we're online only this week anyway (and probably the whole of January after tonight), so it didn't affect me as much. But I would be utterly fuming if I were a parent or primary school worker, a pointless day which will doubtlessly lead to more infections and lives lost.

Why he couldn't say this days ago, I don't know. @1346137101302194177 I am a big Starmer fan, but he is playing politics here (just like he was yesterday too). Either that or he has seen something we have not.

Why he couldn't say this days ago, I don't know. @1346137101302194177 He waited for permission from Boris and Sturgeon before finding his backbone. I'm sure Labour will claim this as an *unfortunate* victory tonight — despite it being all SAGE, frontline workers, and the unions.
January 4, 20214 yr Author He waited for permission from Boris and Sturgeon before finding his backbone. I'm sure Labour will claim this as an *unfortunate* victory tonight — despite it being all SAGE, frontline workers, and the unions. What was it Boris Johnson called him? Captain Hindsight. General indecision? Major catastrophe for the Labour Party.
January 4, 20214 yr He should have been fighting for this. Instead he chose the route of just blaming the government instead of actually challenging them.
January 4, 20214 yr He should have been fighting for this. Instead he chose the route of just blaming the government instead of actually challenging them. Exactly this - Labour should have been all over this but there's been stunned silence from them for days. It does seem to be a recurring theme of his leadership to just ride the wave of 'I'm not Jeremy Corbyn or Boris Johnson' and not come off the fence on these big issues. It's not good enough at 9 months into his leadership.
January 4, 20214 yr I really hope we hear something about schools soon, I'm year 13 and while I've been able to keep up with content and haven't had to isolate at all. A lot of people around me have missed out on a lot over the last 10 months.
