STOP TROLLING

Steve asked me why I like the Tories so I answered him. Am I not allowed an opinion of a political leader now. You all have plenty of opinions of him.

You genuinely make me sick to my stomach.

For liking a politician? Very strange. :(

No, for thinking that someone who, in your own words, is a bumbling fool is the right person to be PM at any time, let alone at a time of crisis.

Vaccine rollout in Northern Ireland has extended to the 65-69s, so my dad's getting his on Saturday. He's the family member I'm most worried about due to his diabetes, so delighted for him.

Sad thing is, this sort of thinking probably represents a big swathe of the population. People only voting for that man because they think he's "funny" or whatever.

For having silly hair and not being able to string a sentence together.

"OK, so he is perhaps a bit too keen on invading other countries and the concentration camps might be going a bit too far, but Adolf's moustache is hilarious!".

Honestly if the ONLY thing you can say about why you like a certain political figure is "silly hair" then you frankly don't DESERVE to vote. It's not a Miss Universe pageant, grow the hell up or stop trolling Christine.
Unfort for many people who don’t follow politics enthusiastically this is the reason for voting much of the time. Like the same people who believe Jeremy Corbyn is a threat to the country because the majority of news stations went with this. They don’t engage fully with the arguments and come to their own critical conclusions.
If online commentary is to be believed, AstraZeneca seems to have overcommitted and screwed themselves at bit. The reason why the UK is receiving so much ahead of everywhere else is that AstraZeneca appears to have agreed that the UK manufacturing sites would supply the UK up to a certain number (we don't know what) first before those supplies can be diverted to third countries. If, as the EU is supposedly demanding, supplies are diverted from the UK to the EU, then I would have thought they would be in breach of contract with the UK.

Its confusing because you get this headline from the Times 'UK supply of vaccine more than needed'.

So I don't know if the EU's request is given, would that would affect vaccination rate in the UK.

But that’s not an excuse. I don’t want to encourage people not to vote but what’s the point if you’re not enthusiastic about it? If you’re going to do something, actually get engaged and a proper informed opinion.

Did the UK rush approval without properly viewing the evidence? Or is the German authority being too cautious? Or is this just a warning shot across the bow of AZ over supply issues?

Didn't Germany think the efficiency for over 65s was 8%? Personally I feel it's Germany being too over cautious with everything that I have read about efficiency in over 65s.

But anyway it seems mad the EU are fighting over a vaccine supply which might not even go to the most vulnerable.

Yes the German media lead by Handelsblatt published that story to say it was next to useless. As it turns out, they weren’t entirely wrong:

From the data AZ submitted, it appears that they have no reliable evidence that it is effective in the over 65s at all because the test groups are not large enough to be statistically significant

The CEO has already come out about it long before though, the reason is largely down to ethics because the research was largely done by Oxford. It's effective for all other age groups so it would be mad to think it's not effective in older ages. We've taken the decision based off knowledge and a smaller data sample, Germany have made a different decision (as I suspect some other countries will too). The chances of it being ineffective are close to zero I would have thought.

Germany can probably afford to be more cautious, which is fair enough. Guess we will all know more in March when the larger trial data comes out from the US study supposedly.

There have been rumblings about the over-65s in relation to the AZ vaccine for a few days. Given the figures, the 8% claim is rubbish. The truth is that the data provide no evidence on its effectiveness in that age group.

The nothing-open-after-11pm restrictions over here were lifted yesterday. :cheer:

The death toll is 500+ daily so I guess Russia is officially Covid-free :mansoncheer:

So a Covid denier, 46, who firmly believed it doesn't exist has died - of COViD. He refused to wear a mask or practise any kind of social distancing.

Heartbreak for family as Shropshire artist and 'Covid denier' dies aged 46

By Nick HumphreysShrewsburyCoronavirusPublished: 11 hours agoLast Updated: 5 hours ago

The heartbroken family of a Covid-19 denier who died after contracting the virus have urged people to help their loved ones avoid getting swept up in the lies.

A talented artist, proudly sharing his work and enjoying that of others over a couple of beers with friends at Shrewbury’s old C21 bar.

Those are the fond memories of Gary Matthews that one family member will hold dear, a far cry from the isolated figure swept up in a virtual echo chamber of conspiracies and lies that may well have contributed to his premature death.

Gary, from Shrewsbury, died on January 13 after contracting Covid-19. He was just 46, had been ill for a week and tested positive the day before he died.

It is not known exactly how he caught the virus, which has killed more than 100,000 people in the UK, but according to his family he did not wear a mask or adhere to safety measures and continued to meet with friends.

Gary did not believe the virus was real, and shared in that belief among online forums which refute indisputable facts in favour of theories that suit their own agenda.

In a cruel twist of fate, it was the very virus in which he disbelieved that contributed to his death."

What you don't know can't kill you.

I mean, Chris, how do you keep defending?

Okay but he's now learnt from those mistakes. It's great in hindsight isn't it to say he should have done this or that. The current lockdown will be at least 8 weeks with schools not back until March 8th at the earliest and non-essential shops maybe April with hospitality maybe May. He's now not rushing anything which is right.
