June 19, 20214 yr It is a very fun listen but the lyrics are absolutely terrible, the rhyming business with business two times is the most clunky for me. I also find the transition from ‘haters look teeny tiny’ to the chorus so sudden, as if it’s just skipped ahead and missed a pre-chorus or something. She was getting better with every release up to the high point of Don’t Call Me Up and it seems there’s just been a downward spiral since then. It genuinely feels each release is worse than the one before. I do enjoy this but I know she can do so much better. I do agree there’s been a lot of studying of other pop stars campaigns, particularly Dua of course.

June 19, 20214 yr ^actually the start on streaming platforms is just ok, nothing crazy, was expecting much much more #57 on Spotify and #53 on Apple is kinda low considering the support given seems like people are even more interested in the Becky Hill one for once

June 19, 20214 yr I’m surprised it’s so low. And there’s only 3 football songs ahead. It's 4 songs with New Order. Hopefully it will climb on Monday and be moved up on Hot Hits. I thought the TikTok hype would have helped it debut higher

I guess maybe the song just either isnt connecting with people or it was a bad time to release. Ah well, I imagine it'll go at least Top 20 for her and be a long running hit due to the support but can't lie, it's disappointing and not going to pretend its a great start.

June 19, 20214 yr Its certainly a lot different to her usual uber-cool mid tempo R&B style of songs that we are used to, I think it doesn't even really sound like Mabel vocally. I quite like it, good fun but could do with being a bit more dance and a bit less poppy to make it sound cooler, as it is a little bit on the cheesy side.

June 20, 20214 yr Controversial opinion: this is by far the best thing she's ever done. But watching the video, she's so awkward and stiff. I don't think she's got star quality (but neither has Jess Glynne and she's somehow massive)
June 20, 20214 yr I think overall Mabel looks more confident and in her element in this video despite the dancing not being the best. The editing does her a bit of a disservice with a some awkward shots and angles which is odd given how great she looked in 'God Is a Dancer' and that was by the same director. I personally think she is a star and have a lot of respect for her. Mabel suffered from anxiety since a small child, to the extent she moved to Sweden and went to school there for 10 years as a POC, and took gap years off in between that. Baring this in mind, it's easier to understand why she isn't the most charismatic artist. Singing and writing are what she studied and what comes naturally to her, not dancing. But she is taking dancing lessons and is clearly pushing herself to do better and trying to improve which makes me root for her a lot.
