The OCC have two separate entries for it: the original album from 2005 that peaked at #8 and its re-entry the following year that peaked at #53. I guess that could explain why there's two separate BPI certifications?

Some interesting BPI certs today.

Queen & David Bowie - Under Pressure - Emi - Platinum 2x - Single - 30.04.2021 - 02.01.2011

Fergie - London Bridge is Silver :cheeseblock:

It seems curious that her #3 debut hit took longer to certify silver than her cancelled single Fergalicious (which peaked at #105 in January 2007, thanks to the rule that allowed a song to chart without a physical). Fergalicious achieved a download chart run of 89-51-36-38-47-63-78-out-69-88-100-out; the week at #88 is when it peaked at #105 in the singles chart.

Always baffled me that Fergalicious wasn't a proper UK single since I learnt that, I was in Australia when it was released and it was a staple of the music video channels - looking at Wiki it went #4 and 2x platinum there. Suppose it makes some sense that it's now outsold London Bridge despite that, for being more iconic in general.

UK also passed up on Clumsy (#62) ... for a similar reason? That was another big US/Aus hit.

The UK didn't deserve her! Clumsy

Another fairly interesting certification - the One Direction album track Infinity is now Silver. It was originally planned to be a single before they went with History instead.

To be fair everything seems to go double platinum in Australia

Australia are noted for their ridiculously low certification thresholds I'll give you that, although it is more than London Bridge ever got

London: #3, Plat

Fergalicious: #4, 2x Plat

Glamorous: #2, 3x Plat

Big Girls: #1, 5x Plat [this was the year-end #1 for 2007]

Clumsy: #5, 2x Plat

Meanwhile L.A. Love limped in at #53! UK was the only place that was a top 10 hit in.

Shania Twain I'm Gonna Getcha Good Mercury Silver :o This was literally one of her best for me, such a shite time for sales when it was out.

It's really crazy that Fergie's UK label decided to pass on Fergalicious, made no sense...

was Clumsy properly released it in the UK? or charted just as import?

That always seemed strange to me, it seemed like it would’ve been a hit.

I think 'Clumsy' was just genuinely a case of not making much of a splash here that late into the album campaign.

Also, I believe it had no physical release... but by that point the rules had changed to allow singles to chart on downloads without one?

Yeah, I definitely recall it being on tv/radio circulation. As you say, no physical release I am aware of so was relying on downloads only late into the album campaign.

At the time I know a number of post album singles just had digital releases. Nelly Furtado’s Say It Right being one of the most successful of that period.

If I recall a CD release of 'Say It Right' was planned but scrapped when the track did well as a download only release. Wasn't it the first single to peak inside the top 10 without a physical release? It did so a couple of months after the chart rules had changed to allow download only releases to be chart eligible.
