There’s every chance that will happen giving her genes and standard of health care. Her mother was approaching 102 when she died, an aunt did live that long and her husband is turning 100 in June.

She’s well surpassed her da anyway but guess he smoked and was a different era healthcare wise. Must have her mums genes!

There'll be some kind of major disaster this decade that kills thousands of people, and the charity song released to fundraise for the victims will overtake Candle In The Wind because someone mimed to it on Tik Tok once.

(then LadBaby rewrites it to be about sausage rolls and it's #1 all over again)

What a difference a year makes! The 23 votes for Mariah (of which I was one) are not looking too clever right now, whereas the 1 vote for Wham! is much more promising. Mr Brightside seems to continue to get stronger and stronger too. However Blinding Lights is still way out in the lead with 3.1 million sales.

I might try and estimate the decade to date Top 10 once we have the final year end 2021 figures.

I'm sticking with Blinding Lights, although if current trends continue, The Killers will take it.
Yeah, Mr. Brightside was something like 11th for last decade, and that was basically with half a decade of streaming. With a full decade I think it would have a chance at #1.
It seems pretty unlikely the biggest song has already been released with 8 years to go.

Even in the streaming era?

Even in the streaming era?

Yes even the streaming era, i still hold out hope that an artist will come along who blows everybody else out the water at some point.

Not saying it’s impossible but it’s much harder when something like Blinding Lights has a 3 million head start and continues to do several hundred thousand each year. And with each year that passes it becomes more unlikely.

4 Roses 1.78m

5 Someone you loved 1.76m

6 Bad habits 1.73m

Other contenders:

All I want for Christmas is you 1.13m

Mr Brightside 1.11m

Perfect 1.11m

Last Christmas 1.11m

So Blinding Lights has a pretty huge lead, though if something like Me Brightside continues to grow in popularity while it fades 8 years is still a long time to reverse it.

If Adele and Ed Sheeran do a duet it will be Huge.

I’m not sure. Maybe. I doubt it would sound good. Adele is too powerful a vocalist for Ed.

Just impossible to predict with 8 years to go. If anyone does a tribute song when HM dies it will be absolutely huge, especially if it was sung at the funeral yoo. Would even dwarf Elton's sales I suspect.

I doubt it in the streaming era.

Approximate update with 7 years to go:

Bad habits is coming up fast but still has a way to go to beat Blinding Lights. Mr Brightside and the Christmas contenders are likely to come more and more into contention as the decade progresses.

1 Blinding lights 3.69m

2 Bad habits 2.91m

3 Dance monkey 2.54m

4 Head & heart 2.43m

5 Someone you loved 2.28m

6 Heat waves 2.15m

7 Watermelon sugar 2.00m

8 Shivers 1.95m

9 Good 4 u 1.93m

10 Levitating 1.92m

Mr Brightside 1.75m

All I want for Christmas is you 1.72m

Last Christmas 1.71m

Perfect 1.63m

So QEII has died (spoiler alert) but it absolutely no effect on the charts whatsoever! Would have been nice for The Funeral by Yungblud to have been #1 for the occasion lol.

I think the smart money is on Mr Brightside at this stage.
