Your ‘proper response’ consisted of saying everyone is jealous of Ed because he is successful and that artistic integrity doesn’t matter. This is perfectly fine. It's better than your average song that sounds like it, nothing I'm going to rush to play personally but I wouldn't turn it off either. Unusually for an Ed song, I think it's going to be very much of its time and date pretty badly.

Beyond basic — even for his standards.

The video has under 10 million views still... and it's been out 1.5 days.

I've heard this now (unusually early for me by recent standards but it was forced upon me by being in the car while my dad had Heart FM on :lol:) and I quite like it, not mindblowingly amazing or anything (I did prefer 'Afterglow') but it's better than a lot of other songs in this style (and definitely a far, far better lead single than 'I Don't Care'). A little cliché to say this but I really think this sounds like the kind of thing BuzzJack would be near universally loving if it was someone like Rita Ora on the vocals? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I guess it has got a slightly better reception on here than most Ed songs do though tbf lol

I find his voice doesn’t really fit the song, it feels too soft and is drowned out by the music. It needs a more powerful voice to really make it a BIG pop song.

 

tbh I’m kinda put off by the copying the After Hours aesthetic too. idk the whole thing feels a bit disingenuous - I guess you could say he can’t win though because he’d be criticised for being boring otherwise but stuff like Castle on the Hill and Sing shows he can do big pop songs whilst staying ‘truer’ to himself.
