How Tom Brennan has two songs in top ten when his album is probably barely top 40 this week

Do these two things have much of a correlation?

Friday by Riton x Nightcrawlers ft. Mufasa and The Hypeman first entered the Official Chart Top 100 some ten weeks ago, but could this week finally see the party anthem make it all the way to the top?

After the first 48 hours of the chart week, the dance track which samples Nightcrawlers’ Push The Feeling On and went viral as a dance craze on TikTok during Covid, currently sits at Number 2 on tonight’s Official Chart First Look, just behind Nathan Evans’ Wellerman.

Reigning chart champ Nathan Evans from Airdrie in Lanarkshire, takes the lead in the race to Number 1 with sea shanty Wellerman, but with less than 2,000 chart sales in it right now, it could still be all change between now and Friday’s final whistle.

Following the success of his recent Number 1 album, Tom Grennan surges forward on the midweek Official Singles Chart, looking set to potentially secure two places in the Top 10. Little Bit Of Love is up six places to Number 7, while collaboration with Ella Henderson, Let’s Go Home Together, climbs 11 places to Number 8.

A steady ascent up the Top 40 over the past seven weeks sees ATB, Topic and A7S on course to break the Top 10 for this first time on Friday with Your Love (9pm), currently up three places to Number 9. Its peak position to date is Number 11.

The highest new entry of the week so far is Lil Nas X’s Montero (Call Me By Your Name) at Number 15. The song caused a stir online this week, taken from his forthcoming debut album of the same name which is due to land this summer, it celebrates embracing sexuality and addresses the homophobia he has experienced.

In response to claims that its bold, unapologetic video packed with biblical symbolism is part of a “system” intended to corrupt American youth, the 21 year-old from Georgia responded on Twitter: “There was no system involved. I made the decision to create the music video. I am an adult. I am not gonna spend my entire career trying to cater to your children. That is your job.”

British singer Mimi Webb trails one place with Good Without (16) – the second highest new entry of the week after two days.

Hoping Peaches can climb- definitely see it going number one sometime in April. It has just gone number one in the States which is a good sign...
One would think he was generally popular if having two hit singles at the same time (also "the new Lewis Capaldi" comment earlier)

I think the Lewis Capaldi comment is just because they have slightly rough-sounding voices and make singer/songwriter music, but I don't think they're particularly similar beyond that myself. He's certainly not had a hit on the level of Lewis' biggest hits yet anyway! He's popular but there are different levels of popularity of course.

Isn’t it a bit off to say Tom Grennan is not ‘genuinely popular’? He clearly is at least somewhat popular.

Wouldn't mind if Lil Nas climbed into the Top 10, hope this is finally the week ATB can make it though.

Looks like a third week for Wellerman at the top.

Does Tom Grennan do lots of sad ballads? He's a lot more upbeat than Capaldi right.

The rest of his album tracks have not made a big impression on streaming, he has 2 hit singles at the same time because they're both being promoted at the same time (as one of them is not primarily his song).

Having 2 big songs on streaming but nothing else is the exact scenario which leads to the artist having high charting singles but a low charting album, by the definition of how album streaming sales work. His album would be a lot higher if he had a third hit single.

Great to see Ella/Tom doing well, should be top 15 on Friday. Is there a reason for the big jump?

Thats exactly why Tom's album, is not doing that well anymore, cos he only has 2 hits

If he had 3 or 4 like Bieber, then he'd be top 5

The bump could be attributed to: a performance of the song on The One a Show on Friday and it finally being added to the Radio 1 playlist. Plus it’s 59p on iTunes which I guess helps a bit (currently number one o iTunes to boot).

Most likely the One Show performance I would say, good to see anyway!

Actually Ella & Tom are doing pretty well on streaming

and now they're at a peak at #4 on Apple, just outside the top 10 on Amazon

as per usual, it's only Spotify dragging them down, they're at #51 now...
