So naturally, it's 13 seasons in and the show in terms of its base format has not really changed even since the very start, with a main challenge winner, sometimes a mini challenge winner, and then a bottom 2, with high contestants getting good critiques and low contestants getting negative critiques. Across the years, staple challenges such as the Snatch Game, Ball and Rusical have also emerged, challenges you are sure to see every season. In recent years, we have also seen lipsync for the crown being an integral part of the final.

 

But are we due some changes, what changes would you make? Is there anything you'd take away that we have right now?

For me something I'd love is something I've mentioned before, but I think following Drag Race Thailand's example and having a runway winner would be great. They don't always do it, for example if it's the makeover or a design challenge there is just the winner for that, but say it's an acting challenge, you get a winner for that and also the runway, which can be the same person but often it's nice to see that recognition for somebody else. The way they do it though is I think the runway matters more, or it seems to, for example there have been a couple of times where the queen won a challenge and then got eliminated because they were bottom 2 from the runway :lol: I don't think I'd want that but I think a separate winner would be nice, it might muddy track records but they seem to matter less and less nowadays. Imagine if Utica had had a couple of runway wins this season for example, I think that would have been good for her to at least have SOME recognition, but I'm sure the judges would still have paid her dust for them :lol:

 

I also think as well as Miss Congeniality, now that the queens vote for that (which I wholly agree with), it would be nice to have a fan vote in the final, see who the fans loved the most.

I guess the only big change through the years is removing 'immunity' from the winner. Which protected several Queens including Tyra who would've been Bottom 2 for her Snatch Game otherwise (also I'm sure there was another challenge where she was protected due to immunity too) - also same for Alyssa in Season 5. I guess I doubt either would've gone at those points, but I guess may have changed which Queen went home etc.

 

Also the final Lip Sync for the Crown is a bit of a shake up - It worked well in Season 9... but I think that was because Sasha and Peppermint really went for it. All the subsequent times has been a bit hit and miss - particularly Asia's stunt.

 

As it is, I think it works well as it is. Obviously if 2 people do well we've had a double win and also a bottom 6 Lip Sync too.

 

Basically I think it works ok :D Even I don't necessarily agree with some of the sashay's/ chantay's (particularly this year)

 

 

Stop forcing the double shantay- they become so predictable every year that it’s just the 2 queens production wants to save!

It might be cool to have a returning queen that the queens vote for, like in UKS2.

I'd also like to see lip sync for the win in the format more. I really enjoyed it in early epsiodes of season 12 and 13.

 

For instance when Symone and Rose both won or when Utica and Symone won they should've had to lip sync against each other for the solo win. We'd get two lip syncs of Shea vs Sasha in season 9. Kennedy vs Ginger in season 7. Adore vs Laganja season 6. Chad vs Madame Laqueer season 4. Alexis vs Shangel season 3.

 

It would perhaps open up the possibility of more than one queen winning a challenge - which would be good as I feel sometmes there are 2-3 queens who did really well in a challenge and it's tough to pick between them.

 

I'd also like them to stick with the split cast episodes at the start of the season. It gives the viewers more time to get to know the queens and allows queens to show off a decent amount before the elimination start. It worked really well in season 6 and the lip sync for the win in season 12/13 was really good.

I know it's never going to happen but I'd like the other judges than Ru to be able to vote on the elimination (or at least who's in the bottom/top). This won't happen though because A) Ru wouldn't allow it B) Production wouldn't allow it :lol: but I generally trust Michelle's judgement better than Ru's. It was the one good thing about judging in DRCAN and tbh I mostly agreed with their eliminations even if their critiques weren't always appreciated.

That sounds good, I think it might help in a few ways tbh!

 

For one, I think it means you have to be ready to lipsync whether you do well or bomb, it might mean the queens who do the show are more prepared to lipsync. But then again, if you have to lipsync for the crown and queens still come not being great at lipsyncing idk :lol: I don't think lipsyncing is the be all and end all some would have it to be, but I like the idea of the two winners and that to decide it.

 

Like the runway winner, it also allows a bit more recognition as I think a huge problem with a lot of seasons is that the same people get praise, then it gets to the point where there's lots of favouritism, almost to the point of feeling a bit rigged. I think for there to be that bit of praise for others, it would be a nice bit of a boost. I can only imagine what it's like to not get any praise throughout a season, even just knowing a runway went down particularly well would be a good boost I think. Like say if Utica had been singled out for a couple of runways, it would have at least softened the blow of constantly been shat on for every challenge!

 

I think it also makes things clearly for bottom 2s, like for example had Gottmik won the Little Black Dress runway, which she easily could/would have I'd have thought, despite her being one of if not THE worst in the Discomentary challenge, it would have meant it wasn't so iffy that she didn't end up bottom 2.

Perhaps they could have a ball and a talent competition (similar to All Stars) to determine who those two queens are? I agree! Drag Race Thailand had like a showcase and they did what they wanted within that as a performance which I think was a good way to do it, I think that, a final spectacular look then a lip sync for the final two, that’s kind of a “throw everything you’ve got at us” finale which is more varied and entertaining.

Or at least do them on the correct episode. They could also start to say it's an official rule that on one of the episodes Ru will save 2 and make a gimmick out of it, rather than just doing it over and over for the nonexistent shock value.

Personally I'm quite tired of the lip sync for The Crown format. I'd like it to be more important what a Queens overall impact during the show was rather than the fiercer lip syncers sailing through.

Hmm yeah true, I'm somewhat torn as I don't want lipsyncs to overtake and have loads of them in episodes, espeically when so often they are lacklustre and it puts too much pressure and focus on one skill.

 

Perhaps for the double win/more recognition thing, you could have Ru's winner and maybe either the panel or the queens decide their winner and it *could* be the same but also could be someone else and you get a double win. Tbh the queens deciding almost sounds like a half arsed All Stars twist that goes horribly wrong though :lol:
