If we should expect the streams to be tragic, maybe they’re ranging from low top 100 to 150 range.

Well the insider was talking more about WW and particularly US. For what we know she could do totally the opposite in UK!!!

US she will underperform for sure. I do think the album release may give "Illusion" was nice boost to help it though as it's climbing in airplay in the US quite nicely.

It's such a shame that "Houdini" got taken off TikTok as soon as it started going viral a bit and was picking up on streaming again in the US. It was still climbing in airplay at the time and may have been able to go further and get new peak on the Hot 100.

I believe the UMG TikTok thing got resolved though now, just in time for her album release, so hopefully some of the songs on the album will do something on TikTok/go viral *_*

I can see this debuting at #1 with about 40k-45k sold opening week.

I’m confused as to how people think it’s going to do less than 30k…

I'm not sure what you mean by "she rose to a level of expectation which she didn't warrant. I think lockdown really helped the success of Future Nostalgia."?

But to say she has "zero to do with the music" is bollocks. She went to music school. She left her management company because they didn't want her to work with Tame Impala on this album. Dua doesn't produce music, but she's very involved with songwriting and what she wants the music to sound like. She worked with the same 2 producers and 2 writers for this whole album. All of them have gone into detail about Dua's artistic input and work ethic and how they worked together like a band.

This is exactly what I meant

"It’s already been noted that in today’s climate of Lore Pop – Taylor, Beyonce, Olivia – Dua Lipa is an extreme outlier. Her lyrics give nothing away, she has the public persona of an Instagram model, and the most notable aspect of her personal life is that she likes going on holiday a lot"

There is no 'Dua' the music could be made by anyone not a star

I disagree, she's in her own lane, has a unique voice and people associate her with funky dance-pop. She's the only big pop girl daring enough to consistently make dance-pop music, even now when the GP are favouring country, singer-songwriter or hip hop. Name a song on the radio right now that sounds like Houdini or Training Season?! The music "could be made by anyone" - NOT!

The lyrics on here do speak of Dua's experiences, her 2 recent breakups with Anwar and Romain, her growth as a person. I mean 'Happy for You' is so powerful coming from her. Just because her private life is not all out in the open like Taylor or Ariana for example, doesn't mean she has no personality and it doesn't make these songs meaningless. That critic from The Line of Best Fit is clutching at straws and sounds extremely bitter.

Anyway that's not the point I was trying to make. If you listen to a Lady Gaga song you couldn't imagine it sung by anyone else as it has her personality all over it. She does not have one song that tells us about her as a personality. Anyway not going into it anymore as its just my opinion, agree to disagree. I love Houdini and Future Nostalgia I just don't like her as an artist. And that's okay we ate all different and entitled to our own opinions xx

Dua said it best in her recent interview with Tom Power

There’s this massive stigma as a female artist, that unless you’re behind a piano or a guitar, and if you’re making songs that feel good, that they don’t have depth. My life is so public, whether I like it or not. I’ve made peace with the fact that people have insight into my life and make up scenarios about me because I get to do what I love every single day. When I write songs and how I chose to dress them up, that’s my therapy. I don’t have to say a name, that can be for me and them. I don’t have to put someone on blast in order for me to get my catharsis.

Houdini and Espresso sound nothing alike. I couldn't imagine anyone else singing Houdini or Training Season for example. What does that say about those songs and Dua?

Fair enough if you don't like her, I just don't see the reasons why you dislike her as being true or valid, and moreso part of the stigma Dua mentions in the above interview.

Since when was consistently releasing dance-pop “daring”?!! I think that’s Dua’s best way of scoring a hit (as with so many others). :P

Dance-pop music isn't popular, especially now, she's one of few making a conscious decision to stick with the genre.

You can count on one hand how many dance pop songs are in the Hot 100.

So, I've listened to the album a couple of times, if I'm honest the singles are the best thing there. Everything else is rather low key. Not bad but just not to my taste. I'll wait and see what other singles she releases from the album though. It's not a terrible album by any means though, it's very consistent when you take out the three singles which do stand out.

Having listened enough times she’s got a decent half-album/EP.

- End of an Era

- Houdini

- Training Season

- Illusion

- Falling Forever

Training Season and Illusion have definitely grown on me but I can’t see myself returning to any of the album tracks besides maybe EOAE. The silver lining in this is that Dua and her team are brilliant at picking the right singles.

DL4 for 2025 please.

That critic from The Line of Best Fit has been anti-Dua for years and used that review to have a go at Dua personally rather than critique the music. Really uncalled for and unprofessional.
I think it’s a solid album, but agreeing with the “beige” comments. It’s kinda just… there nothing too special on it. Highlights are Maria and falling forever

The Rolling Stone review summarises my thoughts perfectly:

"Moments of greatness can be found on the pop giant's latest album, but it's hard to shake the sense that she is capable of so much better."

Nothing stands out for me on the album. I've listened to it end to end 3 times now and there isn't a single song where I've gotten that excitement run through me that you feel when you hear a song you love for the first time. A real shame because I absolutely adored her first two albums, especially FN, I've literally been a fan since 2015 and went to her first gig at Olso in Hackney  but I've not loved any of the singles this go around so I kind of expected it tbh. I hope it does well for her though, and I really hope this one is just a small blip in her discography and she comes back with a banger of an album next go around. I feel a bit bad for her because the reception has been pretty lukewarm and she seems so proud of this album.

I've said it many times, but the album REALLY should've been released in February/March when she did all the awards shows and Training Season was fresh. Add to that the fatigue people have had with all the new releases by Beyoncé, Taylor Swift etc and some new fresh big viral hits like Too Sweet. The competition has never been more fierce. It's very difficult to get people interested now, 6 months after the lead single (also it doesn't help that the album did not have any "oooooh she did THAT" moments, which has already been discussed).

3 listens in and I'm really enjoying the album!

It's not as in your face as FN was, these songs creep up on you instead. Agreed that the right songs were chosen as singles, at least half of them wouldn't work as stand-alone songs (pretty much the opposite of FN!).
