June 24, 20223 yr The writing was on the wall but nothing could've prepared me for how devastating that news notification felt :( a really disgusting, archaic blow that's just going to be one of many. </3 ffs how can this backwards dystopia be reality in 2022
June 24, 20223 yr It’s interesting how the right are so libertarian when it comes to the market and guns but anti libertarian when it comes to enforcing no health care for woman in this respect.
June 24, 20223 yr Horrific for all women across America but particularly minorities. And with the Democrats controlling all three elected branches of government, at least nominally. They'll lose the Senate in November and there will be no way back for a long time. SCOTUS is clearly out of control. It is partially on Democrats like Pelosi who wax lyrical about wanting a strong Republican party (but yet can never find the ability to do anything useful even with huge Democrat control), but most importantly it is on the fact that nearly half of America wants to vote for a fascist party. I don't know, on a macro level, how best to break them out of that. although if Biden wants to do something right now (there's no chance, no shot) he should break precedent and pack the Court, citing not partisan reasoning but SCOTUS credibility, which is going to be shot when they're being this openly partisan.
June 25, 20223 yr Leftwingers need to stop playing by rules of engagement that no-one else is playing by. It's like trying to run a race against your opponent on a motorbike who's shooting at you with a bazooka as you just run on your legs, insisting all the while that actually this is a race for runners and your opponent must have forgotten they shouldn't bring a bike.

The leadership are really failing to meet the urgency of the moment. You would think the bare minimum is not endorsing candidates who oppose values the democratic party supposedly stand for. June 25, 20223 yr This has been building for years, women's rights have been under attack by far rightists determined to put them back in their place, and theyve been using devisive and underhand tactics to bring it about. They dont care about the unborn, cos they are the same people who support no gun control which has killed millions. And the same people that dont believe in Health care the lack of which kills millions including children. So it's far right religious nutters taking control of the country that wrote a constitution designed to keep religion out of politics. The American political system is a huge mess. Just to correct a comment, Hilary Clinton didn't lose the election. She won. The effed-up system that gives rural backwards-looking states way more power than the low population numbers deserve has caused the situation where one-third of the nation now dictates over the two-thirds that disagree, purely because 2 right-wingers were nominated for a lifetime by liars. The judges lied when they were quizzed over their beliefs, Trump lied about everything, and still is, when he should be in prison for sedition. So his nomination should be seen for what they are. Republicans denied a judge that should have been nominated by Obama, so yes Democrats should be changing the make-up of the court to right that wrong on the basis that the nominees lied. Liars should not have that sort of power. And yes, other rights are now at risk. Instead of slagging each other off, which is what the far right (ie Republicans/Proud Boys/Ku Klux Klan etc) want, everybody at risk of losing rights should be mutually supporting each other and getting organised and political. That's a huge voting block. That means looking at the bigger picture and co-operating. Cos if you ain't in it together, history shows you all go down together.

The problem with the 'leftwingers' is a false sense of superiority and attachment to decency and rules. It'll never change with current leadership that puts that above everything else. When they go low, we go high and do absolutely nothing.

The Overton window has been dragged so much that the far-right is essentially half of the country at this point.
June 25, 20223 yr Hillary LOST. The race referred to getting the most EC seats, whether you agree with the archaic system or not. It was NOT a race for the popular vote, in which fash Trump would also have campaigned differently. Hillaey and rhe DNC paid rhe price, and so did America, for sabotaging Bernie, the true winner.
June 25, 20223 yr Nancy Pelosi was literally just campaigning for the only anti-abortion democrat in the house. The leadership are really failing to meet the urgency of the moment. You would think the bare minimum is not endorsing candidates who oppose values the democratic party supposedly stand for. Performance politics. The Dem elite really don't give two shits. They are on the gravy train, and their prime concern is stopping leftists.
June 25, 20223 yr Such a truly vile decision. This is going to put so many people's lives in danger and I can't even imagine where it'll end - surely so many other rights are now at risk. It's awful to see this happening in 2022 (as it would be in any year, but by now we should be far beyond this) and especially under a Democrat government. They absolutely could have prevented this at so many opportunities - enshrining Roe v Wade into federal law has been talked about so much but as usual nothing changes. I just feel absolutely awful for all the people this is going to harm.

The effed-up system that gives rural backwards-looking states way more power than the low population numbers deserve has caused the situation where one-third of the nation now dictates over the two-thirds that disagree, Just to correct you. Hillary got over a million more votes than Trump, yes, but that's not what decides who becomes President. It's the Electoral College and he won that. I believe it's wrong too. Should go on majority of votes cast.
June 25, 20223 yr The problem with the 'leftwingers' is a false sense of superiority and attachment to decency and rules. It'll never change with current leadership that puts that above everything else. When they go low, we go high and do absolutely nothing. Absolutely. We need more Mick Lynches in the world. I kinda think there must be some kind of artificial barrier to entry into politics in the UK. It can't be by chance that everyone representing Labour seems to be comfortable, polite and rule-abiding. I saw this quote the other day that really put some things into perspective: "Most people are fairly compassionate and have good intentions (this is good) As a result, most people deeply struggle to understand that some people, including our ‘leaders’, CAN have malicious or perverse intentions (this is bad)." I genuinely do think that is the root of some of this. People going about their day thinking "oh, X is exaggerating about the impact of that, it won't really be that bad" and then putting it out of their heads.
June 25, 20223 yr Who is cooperating in this scenario? The Overton window has been dragged so much that the far-right is essentially half of the country at this point. over 60% of Americans support the right to abortion. One third don't. Make a guess at how many of that third are not women....

It was NOT a race for the popular vote, in which fash Trump would also have campaigned differently. Hillaey and rhe DNC paid rhe price, and so did America, for sabotaging Bernie, the true winner. good luck with that campaigning in southern and rural states. It's not as if they are hardcore fervent believers in gun rights, anti-healthcare and anti-abortion or anything. I imagine Bernie would done exactly what, sorry, squat, to convince them when Clinton couldn't.....? Have you actually been to the USA and talked to people? Trump is their hero, they want chaos and reversing civil rights. The USA has zero tradition of state-controlled anything. The Revolution was all about a bunch of rich white invaders of a foreign country getting together to remove the power of another bunch of rich white men in the country they were descended from taxing them and telling them what to do. Some still think that's a thing....
June 25, 20223 yr Absolutely. We need more Mick Lynches in the world. I kinda think there must be some kind of artificial barrier to entry into politics in the UK. I genuinely do think that is the root of some of this. People going about their day thinking "oh, X is exaggerating about the impact of that, it won't really be that bad" and then putting it out of their heads. A fair portion of people passionate about politics are in it for their own self-interest (usually Tories/Republicans) and dont generally worry their little heads on compassion for others. Some don't take any interest in politics believing one vote wont make a difference to their lives. So they in effect also don't worry enough about injustice to try and do anything about it. Others do try and make a positive difference, but they have the disadvantage of having to hold the moral high ground, be honest, try not to put those that don't share those values off too much in order to get voted in. Plus, a lot of people who ARE compassionate and empathetic are just not cut out for being able to stay focused and deal with criticism and lies from those that deal in that, and are financed by people who support that. So they go into caring professions instead. And get stiffed by those who don't and wouldn't be suited for it if they did.

Some still think that's a thing.... Bernie won vs Trump in all hypothetical match-ups and provided real, tangible answers. Let's remember that Bernie is the most popular senator in the country, and let's also remember that Hillary scraped the nomination via the southern states, not Bernie. Southern states vote for Republivans. By the way, who won in a landslide in the rust belt in the primary, including vs Hillary's big money DNC train and fake polls? Oh.
August 3, 20222 yr Slightly better news that in a very solidly Republican state, Kansas, a referendum has decisively ensured that the right to abortion remains enshrined in law. This must give a clear message to the Republicans/Supreme Court which way the wind is blowing with the public on this issue. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/au...te-constitution
